1. Introduction.

Star Wars: Squadrons doesn't have an option in the Menu to turn off HDR (High Dynamic Resolution). In the Menu you can only calibrate the intensity of the effect.

Even if you don't have it enabled -HDR- in Windows 10 configuration, if the game detects that you have a monitor with HDR technology it will activate it automatically... And you won't be able to turn it off.

2. How to...

So, if you want to disable HDR and you are using the Steam version, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to (you can copy and paste the next directory in your Windows Explorer bar):

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\STAR WARS Squadrons Steam\settings

2. Open with Notepad the file named ProfileOptions_profile

3. Find and modify the parameter:

GstRender.HdrEnable 1

to:

GstRender.HdrEnable 0

4. Save the changes and exit.

That's all! If you want to turn on HDR again, repeat the same instructions and change the 0 for a 1 to restablish the original configuration.

To answer the naysayers who ask why you would want to turn it off? I have an HDR monitor but I also have a VR Headset which does not support HDR. HDR looks horrible in the VR headset as a result. Hence why being able to turn it off or on is so useful. Thank you to the original poster for putting this up. For the people who were rude about it. No thank you.

You're welcome, Spartagus! I agree with you. I have the same problem in other games like "Nex Machina". But in this case I don't know how to turn off HDR... I play the game in a Windows to avoid HDR

I have same monitor as kenzer161. My monitor is the LG 27GL850-B QHD 2K IPS 144Hz G-Sync HDR 27" Gaming Monitor. I love all the specs of my monitor, but as you say, the implementation of HDR in my LG is poor.

I have (almost) the same monitor as kenzer, and he is 100% correct. It technically supports HDR, and is available as an option in most games, but it looks like absolute shit and nobody would choose to use it on this monitor.

Not having an option to disable it is beyond stupid. Thanks for the guide OP.

Because I have a great gaming monitor (27GL850) with a piss poor HDR implementation. When you implement HDR in a display without actually having full array local dimming or a great contrast ratio, it kinda just looks like crap and doesn't meet the requirements for a worthwhile HDR specification.

It's because nobody could have guessed anyone with a HDR display would possibly want to turn it off. It makes no sense. It's like having a SVGA monitor that have 16 million colours and wanting to go back to VGA because you like 256 colours better.
I'm telling you.. if you don't like the colours you are seeing, you should figure out what's wrong. HDR is a colour space that increase the number of colours from 16 million to up to 3 billion. It shows so much more that it was possible before. You may have some wrong settings in your end, or your HDR monitor is busted or low quality.. I donno. But the improvement is tin can to gold.
