[PvP Push] Destroy Ammo Caches With Fire Support
By UncleBourbon
This guide shows you the ammo cache objectives in PvP Push that can be destroyed using Commander fire support calls for both Security and Insurgents, and how to do that.

Note:
Almost all caches can at least be damaged with fire support. However, this guide will only show you the caches that can be reliably destroyed from one hit with no prior damage.

Introduction
In Push game mode, the attacking team will need to destroy the ammo cache of the enemy (defender) team after capturing all (3 or 4 depending on map) previous objectives or kill all remaining enemy players (they will have zero respawn waves at that point) in order to win.

Few of these caches can be destroyed using Commander fire support from relatively far away. We'll be using the Autocannon Strafe for Security and the Explosive Drone and/or the Bomber Drones for Insurgents.

This guide will show you how to destroy these caches using animated GIFs so it is easy to follow along. A YouTube video is also available in the third to last section of this guide if you prefer.

But before we get to each of those ammo caches, let's explain how the Autocannon Strafe and the Bomber Drones work. The Explosive Drone needs no explanation, it's a drone that can be called to go through doors or windows and self detonate.
How the Autocannon Strafe Works
When you call this type of fire support, Warlock the A-10 pilot will do a gun run on your target, the angle/direction of the strafe CAN be controlled by the Commander. When you aim your binocular marker and click, there is a delay until you receive confirmation from Station. During this delay is your opportunity to decide the angle of the strafe.

To control the strafe angle you simply adjust your look direction (enabling compass HUD always on in the game options is recommended) before you receive Station confirmation. The strafe will ALWAYS be perpendicular to and coming from the right side of your look direction just before Station confirmation. Once confirmation is received, WARLOCK IS LOCKED ON! and you are free to look wherever you want afterwards.

To help illustrate this check the animated GIFs below showing 4 different examples.

How the Bomber Drones Work
When you call this type of fire support on your target, a group of 3 drones will do a fly by and drop one bomb each (in a triangular shape). Here are few points you might want to know:
  • Dimensions and angles of the triangle are fixed and cannot be changed or controlled.
  • Orientation angle of the triangle is fixed and cannot be controlled (you can't rotate it).
  • Orientation angle of the triangle is fixed relative to where north is on each map.
  • One of the bombs will always land on your marked spot, let's call it bomb_1.
  • Relative to map north, bomb_2 will be below and to the left of bomb_1.
  • Relative to map north, bomb_3 will be further below and slightly to the right of bomb_1.
  • While changing your look direction before receiving confirmation from Outpost changes where the drones will be coming from, each of the 3 bombs will still and always land on the same spots, this only changes the drones approach.
What this means is, when you mark a specific spot, each of the 3 bombs will ALWAYS land on the exact same 3 spots every time regardless of your standing position or your look direction.

To help illustrate this check the animated GIF below showing 2 examples marking the same spot from different standing positions and look directions.

Because it is not always feasible to get the one bomb that always lands where we mark (bomb_1) to drop near the ammo cache due to whatever obstruction, you'll notice in those cases the spot we mark is at an offset of where the ammo cache is so we get either of the other two bombs (bomb_2 and/or bomb_3) to land near it instead.
Bab Security <D>
  • Call the Autocannon Strafe on the indicated spot.
  • Change your look direction as indicated before confirmation from Station is received.
Crossing Insurgents <D>
  • Call the Explosive Drone on the indicated spot. Make sure the marker turns purple.
Crossing Security <D>
  • Call the Autocannon Strafe on the indicated spot.
  • Change your look direction as indicated before confirmation from Station is received.
Outskirts Insurgents <E>
  • Call the Explosive Drone on the indicated spot. Make sure the marker turns purple.
Summit Security <E>
  • Call the Autocannon Strafe on the indicated spot.
  • Change your look direction as indicated before confirmation from Station is received.
Hillside Insurgents <D>
  • Call the Bomber Drones on the indicated spot. Pixel precision is required, check the YouTube video if this isn't clear enough.

If you don't like the GIFs, you can watch this YouTube video instead (timestamps in the description).

Note
If you know how to destroy any other cache, let me know and I'll update the guide and credit you, but the method must be reliable.

And finally, of course none of this would be possible without an attentive Observer and for that I recommend you to read this excellent very detailed guide by lvl100caterpie, which tells you everything you need to know about playing Observer effectively.

If you want to practice and test with the new system you can use local play solo and download "Easier Fire Support 2" mod, which will allow you to call fire sopport without observer. This mod is a mutator and to enable it you'll need to use console command, if you need help with that, let me know.

Technically it's possible, but realistically speaking it's near impossible. Not only because you'll expose yourself for long and become an easy target, but also it lacks the precision that's needed to hit the caches. The old system was precise thanks to the compass.

Some caches in coop can still be hit relatively easy with the new system (old still easier tho). It depends on what orientation you're after and the object you're aiming at.

But if I get used to the new aiming system, will I still be able to hit caches with strafes?

@UncleBourbon thanks mate! Too bad they changed the way it did, tho there is still advice present in the game, saying that Warlock strafe is going perpendicular to the viewer

@1337, what you see here is how we used to control the orientation for like 4 years since game release until NWI with their infinite wisdom decided it's "bug" so they removed the ability. When we complained they "listened" to us and brought back the ability but they changed the way to do it. The current way to do it is stupid, slow, and risky.
