First off: PLUG IN A CONTROLLER
No, really, this will fix 90% of issues with performance! What does this have to do with performance?
ONLY GUST AND KOEI TECMO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ KNOW! For some inexplicable reason both Sophie 2 and Ryza 2 might begin stuttering all over the place if they dont detect a controller. Also, they wont detect it on the fly. Exit, plug it in/pair it, go back in, problem might be fixed. The game might be stuck scanning for a controller in the background. Only god knows.
In-game settings
  • Always set the game to FULLSCREEN
  • Motion blur makes the camera jerky, I recommend turning it off.
  • TAA doesnt work. It's better to turn AA off entirely and choose a higher resolution than your monitor's if your pc can handle it. Keep in mind 4k is absurdly demanding on gust's engine so even in a pretty good pc 1440p might be the sweetspot.

  • If you experience a sudden drop of performance try alt-tabbing or changing to a lower resolution and then changing back to "refresh" the rendering (from StabbyStabby)

  • If you are having stutters browsing materials lists, disable the steam overlay
Use Atelier Sync-Fix
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZtCoky-X15ZuUFXo2F6VCMh8ZMXSELUf/view
Drop the .dll in the same folder as the game's .exe

This is a windows version of the fix made for linux, recompiled to work on Windows by TellowKrinkle
https://github.com/TellowKrinkle/atelier-sync-fix/tree/windows
Graphics Driver / Windows Settings
Enter your driver's control panel and:
  • Set framelimiter to 60 overriding the games broken one.
If your pc cannot handle 60 fps, set vsync to half and limit fps to 30.
If at your monitors native Refresh rate, enable vsync from the driver control panel
Set windows power plan to "High Performance" while playing the games
  • If all fails, try setting priority for the game to realtime in task manager.
On Linux and Steam Deck
DO NOT USE THIS ON WINDOWS
  • Use the latest PROTON Experimental or GE
  • Download this file https://github.com/doitsujin/atelier-sync-fix/releases AND EXTRACT
  • Put d3d11.dll in your game's .exe folder
  • Paste
    WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d11=n,b" %command%
in your game's launch options under properties to activate the fix.
This fix also works for Ryza 1, Sophie 2, and the Mysterious Dx Games
  • Set the resolution to 720p borderless (fullscreen option stretches)
  • Recommend leaving most settings on low preset, except textures which can go to standard, and setting bloom, dof, ssr and light shafts to on to make it more presentable. Play with the settings, but only AFTER doing the steps above.
Be mindful of the fact Atelier games on deck like to reset settings to a default (which is way too high) sometimes so always check on launch. You can help the game remember settings by exiting properly by quitting from the game instead of the steam overlay.

Added tips after I had to fight the game to get it to work on deck

Interesting. I'll add it

I did some more tests and apparently (tested 3-4 times and it seems consistent) I've greatly reduced (almost unnoticeable) the stuttering when the materials are shown removing the steam overlay

Just to add to this thread, I suddenly was able to mitigate the stutter when the gathered ingredients pop on the screen, but for the life of me I can't reproduce it constantly.
I've tried everything and it still seems random.

No idea but possible. Espeically, as the whole thing is not 100% constant.
The only thing I am sure for now is that if all potential bluetooth devices are connected and one is a controller, there does not seem to be an issue. As I only use one device for gaming, I am also not sure, how relevant this might be for others, but I would mention it as others might have a similar issue.

Interesting, so if your pc is bluettoth enabled the engine maybe goes crazy searching?

or to be more precise to ensure I have no stuttering after starting the game both my Bluetooth keyboard and Bluetooth controller have to be connected. Sometimes controller is enough, but not always.

I noticed that the stuttering might not actually be controller related but more like potential (maybe only Bluetooth) devices being disconnected.

I just recently started having this issue (stuttering, even in the initial video sequence), never had it before.

And after some trial and error and thinking about what I changed, I noticed that if I power off my Bluetooth keyboard & touchpad combo device (switching to controller), before the game is fully started, I have stuttering.
If I only turn it off, after the game is started, everything is fine.
