Mod Version: v1.21

Hertz Playable Garrisons is a mod that lets you march out with any region's garrison with a simple double click on a button.
This mod grabs your garrison and converts it to a new cost-reduced army for 2 turns.

(This mod is save-game compatible)






Full Garrison Control
When you take your garrison out you will have full control over the army.
The garrison inside the settlement will be empty except for 1 unit. The rest of the units will get added to a new army which sits just outside the settlement.
You can whatever you want with the garrison force except for exchanging units and leaving the region.

Garrisons that are outside of their settlements will return to their settlement if the garrison army has moved back inside their settlement, or after 2 turns.
You can recruit new units into the garrison army, but these units will be lost if the garrison army returns to the settlement.

After the garrison has returned from outside the settlement, there will be a 4 turn cooldown before you can take your garrison outside again while your garrison replenishes.

You can not exchange units between garrison armies and normal armies
The garrison force can not leave the region the Garrison has come from.


So how do I get my garrison out?
It's very simple You have to do the following to get your garrison force out.
  • Select the settlement you wish to sally out with its garrison
  • Double click the settlement zoom button
Thats it. Double click the settlement zoom button in the settlement panel (above your building slots) and the garrison should appear outside your settlement.



Does this work with X overhaul?
Yes this mod works with any custom faction or overhaul as it reads and takes all units from the current garrison and puts them in an army. No sub-mods are required



Does the AI use this?
No the AI does not sally out with its garrisons. This would open up a whole bunch of technical issues and bugs to make sure the AI does what it needs to do. I will not be adding AI support for this mod for the foreseeable future.



What is up with that 1 unit left in the garrison?
He's hardcoded, can't get him out.

The new Ataman function could definitely enhance this mod in terms of ease of use. The current double click is kind of a plaster fix and like UPD8 said, spawning the army with 0 movement is not very useful.

@autumnchain Yeah, I'm even ok with the garrison needing some form of commander to balance it a bit but you can see how they take mods and make them basic features. I would actually like to be able to make any lord of hero an "ataman" for a province or at least give lords garrisoning a settlement with an army able to sally out.

Would be nice if the garrison force didn't start out with 0 movement points
They're only used in emergency situations which means waiting for them to move until next turn will be too late

I hope this will be adjusted to give all garrisons the Ataman's ability to have garrisons attack nearby armies.

Seems like with upcoming patch 6.1 this will be somehow a Kislev vanilla feature:

From dev blog post 6.1
"Atamans now enable a new feature for settlements, tentatively called “Garrison Sally Attack” where you can command settlements managed by them to engage enemies within a limited distance, as if the settlements themselves were armies. Of course, the capital of the province is lead by the Ataman himself, who takes the field with the garrison during this attack." :WH3_nurgling:

I believe this is still working - just.
You just have to be on the SETTLEMENTS GARRISON page before dble-clicking zoom to spawn the army, doesn't work for me on building overview etc.
