Removing Traffic with HexEdit
By kr3m
This guide covers how to remove Traffic (and Cops) from Street by using a HexEdit program to search and replace one specific value.
Skill level required: 3
(You should be able to complete this if you are able to follow the directions.)
(Being able to download, install, and use the basics of unfamiliar programs is helpful.)

Things to know before starting
Filesize and Permissions:
This mod edits a 150mb file called "Level1". The size of this file makes it difficult to host/share, and I please ask that you refrain from sharing your modified file.

Disclaimer:
This will remove traffic, however, there are bugs that can/will be experienced:
  • Players should not race with this mod.*
  • Player is unable to get any Drift Points over 100km/h.
  • Timers will not count down for players when driving over 100km/h.
  • Finishing races over 100km/h will not register.
*This is not a statement of morality. This is to avoid bugs. I will not fix this bug due to moral reasons. I do not believe a traffic free player should be competing in the same races as those with traffic. This mod is for clearing the streets to enjoy driving and drifting, or better testing vehicle performance; not for cheating other players.

Backing up game file:
Be sure to back up your original Level1 file.
  • copy and paste "Level1" into the same folder it's already in.
  • Rename the copy to "Level1.orig"

    Downloading HexEditor:
You should be able to use any HexEditor, but I am using HexEdit4.0. This is freeware that's always served my personal use purposes and you should be able to google it. I will not provide any direct links as those may expire over time and I do not want to be blamed for being a source of any bad .exe downloads. Please be sure to run your .exe download through virustotal.com to make sure it's safe to open before running it.
Locating the game files

To locate the Local files:
  • Open your Steam library to Kanjozoku Game.
  • Select the Gear/Settings icon on the right hand side.
  • Select "Manage".
  • Select "Browse local files".
Editing Game Files
If you already have a HexEditor installed, you can move onto Editing Game Files. If you need to install the HexEditor, it should be as simple as installing any other program and you should be able to use default settings. I cannot offer screenshots or further assistance because I did not recommend any one specific HexEditor.

Editing Level1:

So you've made it here. You've found your local files, you made your back-up, and now you're ready to edit "Level1" and remove the AI traffic (and Cops).

1) Right click the "Level1" file and Open with your HexEdit. If this option is not available, you will likely have to open your HexEditor and then drag/drop the "Level1" file into the HexEditor.

2) Using ctrl-f, look for the text string "system" (there is only one instance in the whole "Level1" file)

When this helps you find "Traffic System" on the right hand side in the text preview panel, look to the hex panel on the left and you will see the highlighted values related to "System".

3) Change the very first "01" that follows the values matching "System" to "00".

4) Save & exit HexEditor.

5) Load the game.

6) Enjoy.

Traffic is localized, so they might not have the same traffic as you, allowing them to clip through yours, but still requiring them to dodge their own. Only way to know for sure is to see them randomly pop a wheelie, or veer off course from what looks like an impact.. other than that, it's a mystery if they have traffic or not..

I was wondering why I would see people constantly just flying right through traffic! I thought it was a glitch or lagspike, so thanks for clearing that up....

I made this so I could drift on the streets without worry of traffic or cops. The bugs are perfectly acceptable for what the intent is as this mod is NOT intended to be used for competitive racing.

In fact, I think it's a nice trade off to keep things balanced: you can either race others (using the original "Level1" file) or you can drift and mess around (using a modded "Level1" file), you can't do both.

Enjoy the Covid Quarantined Streets of Japan.. In-game screenshots requested..
