Where the hecken are the switches (with photos) **SPOILERS** and all achievements
By ariethninja
Yet again, we had to check several walk through to figure out how to do the switches so how about I write another one of my "famous" guides.

Please feel free to ignore my horrible attempt at humor. Just roll your eyes and move on.

This **DOES** have spoilers without hiding them. This game has been out long enough and this guide focuses on just getting the switches so you do not have to be or leave your partner behind.

I'll explain a little bit about what is going on and how I beat the levels, but since stuff is kinda random, me taking screenshots isn't going to help.

I might update later for adding more info

The screenshots are either mine or BlueNinja's from our last game play.

I dont think this is a 100% guide... I just want people to not have to get mad at where all the stupid switches is.

Just a little bit about the story from my point of view, feel free to skip
The intro to this game there is FOUR people heading off, and the person number 3 falls down and so 3 and 4 get left behind and find a castle shooting a flare into the sky telling you and your friend "hey dummy, we are over here at this castle" which is the start of game "we were here"

So of course you go to the big huge castle in the middle of nowhere, its several inches of snow outside, going in doors sounds like a GREAT idea.... As you look for evidence of your friends entering (which they entered through some other door, somehow) a gate behind you shuts. There is evidence of something being dragged through the middle door you cant go into, but there is two doors to the each side of it and you and your friend decide to do the BRILLIANT idea to split up, because that has never ended badly before.
Before you start
In this game you are either the lord or the peasant. Yeah, I'll let you and your pal fight over which one is the better to be in life and game. There is puzzles to solve, both of you have chances to die, even together on the heckenvator.

This game is going to test your communications skills. How well can you and your buddy talk your way to solve problems. Sure, you can cheat where you see each others screens, but that isn't always that helpful. In fact, it can make things a tiny bit more confusing sometimes.

So try to make sure that you are both clear. They actually have made artwork bragging about how they ruin relationships because you might get mad at the other person for not listening or being clear.

Again, this guide is not how to solve all the puzzles, I'm going to brush on the puzzles, if you cant figure it out, sorry, maybe one of the other guides will explain it better or enough of y'all beg and i'll play the game again to be more clear.

Of course I can't find my saved photo even though it was my background about a week ago. Oh, hey, they have an official discord, i'll bug them to see if they will share it.

Switch 4.5 and 5.4, 6.7 and 7.6 are written that way because the peasant might find their switch before the lord does. 4&5 and 6&7 over lap. If that confuses you... Um... pats your head twice slowly and speaks in a monotone voice there there

Switches 9-12 can be done in ANY order. So I will be describing them by name not number.
Lordy pulls the switch 1 in the room with coffins

By the door, before you leave, you are looking down into a grate to see three symbols... Yours might be different. Both times I played this tonight, this was mine.

While we are here let me talk about the first room and puzzle you have to play with.

To move forward in the game, they only care about those weird marking above the coffins being described to the peasant who mucks around on a bar and flips a switch. however, if you do the three ones in the vent by the door another door opens and there is the first switch.

Blue didn't get all photos for a full walk through. but a little column with movable boxes and a red switch isn't hidden. I will say, as far as I am aware, you cannot have two of the same symbols.
Lordy pulls number number 2 with candles and banners.

Nobody seems to know for sure when you can pull the second switch. I did it as soon as i got into the room. Walk in, there is a short hallway to your left. Click on the door it will open. Might take a moment, but it opens, and there to the left is the switch.

....

okay, I'll explain a bit about the puzzles in this room. Number one, when it comes to candles and markings on the ground, think of a clock. Agree on a spot that is 6 or 12 or however you want to be able to start the clock at. I like standing on my 6 so whatever is on the bottom and i can say other stuff is at 12, 2, 5, and so on...

The first puzzle the Lord sees a book with candles marked I, II, III, IIII, then IIII with an I under it. Do yourself a favor, take the extra moment to make sure you have them in the right order before you call them out.

You'll know you will have done it right not only because the pretty little good job string of noises, but stuff will light up.

next the lord gets to look at two banners while the peasant has to figure out the chain to end up making the shape.

I have a circle with a x in it and i can either go to the ~ or to (another shape here)

The starting symbols should be different enough that even if you are color blind to with red and blue, you can still pull this off.

Next the lord has to go to the gazebo because the symbols on the ground light up and there is a path that the peasant has to follow

Peasant needs to pull switch 3 under the stairs before it is in lava.

.... okay, stop, before you go into this room please, stop. This part is timed, and its kind of a nightmare until you get the communication down. One of our attempts I got it right as the step he was on was about to slide out from under him.

Lordy is still stuck in the room with the banners. There is so many doors, for each cube a random one will open.

The first thing the peasant should do when the door opens is to go left, to under the stairs and flip the switch.

Then run up the stairs until they cant and look at the wall on the left, there is going to be a cube that has been taken apart to be flattened.

here is where I dont have a picture to explain right now, but on each cube there is a compass. The red needle points north.

What me and my boyfriend found super quick and useful is what is to the north of the compass, and there has to be at least one triangle touching the compass, which side and which way does it face.

However, sometimes the compass is on the side so you have to picture how the box would fold so North is touching something. -- if you guys really want me to at least break this part down more I will if i get enough bugs, or pennies thrown at me.

But the peasant looks at what is on the wall and tells the lord, who in the open door runs around and picks up cubes to see if its right. on the pc you cant drop it unless you pick up another.

putting the wrong box on the alter will force all the cubes on their thingies and you have to wait a few seconds for the spikes to go down so you can pick any of them up again. If you take to long the peasant is going to die.

since you are doing this guide to get all the switches so you can leave together... I dont think you want your friend to die... I could be wrong... and if they aren't explaining properly there is def temptation.

but its a few cubes until they are at the top of the stairs and the life of Lordy is now in the hands of the peasant.

Lordy finds switch 4.5 in the long walk to their chance to die.

The peasant makes it to the top of the stairs and is in a room full of weapons, a wheel and 4 statues standing under a crest. They should do yall both a favor and make note of which weapons and shields are were.

But while they do that, Lordy has a long walk to the next puzzle and at one of the turns, on the left, is a switch to pull. On the ground there is three candles by a book and two lit scones on either side of the arch its on.

But Lordy should walk right up until the door and not actually go through it. If you walk through it becomes timed. And while Peasant can turn back time to give you more time... just wait until you are sure you are ready because do you really want to die?

I'll explain more in just a bit, you can't be greedy with the switches, its Peasant's time to shine.
Peasant can grab switch 5.4 as they try to keep Lordy alive.

Okay, So I could have put these two together, or even this one before Lordy because I am pretty sure they get in this room before Lordy makes it to the point of the hallway with their switch, but all the guides I've found puts them in this order. I think its the dot order at the end of the game...

Meh, lets move on.

if you stand in the doorway that you come in, look to your left in that tiny little hall between the lava and the wall, can you see the switch down there? yeah, its super obvious. Go ahead and pull it.

Now maybe I should explain the puzzle and tips and tricks.

Like I explained when I told Lordy where their switch was, Peasant has a whole bunch of stuff to look at. Hopefully they did so you are going to need this info.

Really, the biggest thing you need to know about is the statues. Go run over them and look at the shields above their heads, you can zoom in on them, PC click. everybody else, yeah, no clue. You both need to agree which animals you are looking at. I've seen a stag, a crane, an eagle, two different wolves on one play, and a badger.

Take your time to really make sure the lord knows which animals to expect unless you want to be turning back time with the wheel constantly.

Another thing before you move on is how to explain the statues. They have have one or two items. in their right, left, or both hands. How is Lordy going to describe it so Peasant can put them in the right place?

I personally like to say "As I look at the statue, the sword is on the right side" Blue said "So their left hand?" because of course we don't think a like, but both of us saying how we think means get it.

You will know that you are right because the eyes will glow red.

There is four statues, two on the left, two on the right. I do not know if the statues stand in the same place, me and blue only looked at the animals above and didn't worry about where in the world is Carmen San Diego in the hall. You have to describe, there are so many kinds of swords, axes, a few maces, a handful of shields. This is why I said earlier for the Peasant to run around and figure out where all the weapons are. "Spiky mace, yeah, i know where that is."

Once you know how you are going to talk to each other, to wait to start the clock, Lordy can stand just in the doorway and see the statues and describe pretty closely what is in the hands and some of the animals... getting two of the eyes red before Lordy runs in to look at the others can save time. it doesn't always work, i swear the two leaf blades look to similar from a distance, but I can say "I think that is wolf facing left is holding a leaf blade, i think its the rectangle in the middle one" and they can get ready.

The wheel is there to push the grate that is going to impale Lordy back to the beginning to give y'all more time.

Of course Lords get a chance to be saved *face palm* there is a message here that i'm just not going to get into right now....

Now you are done trying to keep the other alive... for now.
Lordy pulls switch 6.7 near the game board

The next room that Lordy finds them in is quite small, and has really two things to notice.

Lets ignore BOTH, because on your left is a game board for later and a red lever that I dont remember pulling, but if you go to that board and turn left until you face the wall there is a switch. Lets pull it.

Since Peasant also has a switch by their puzzle, I'm gonna ignore you for now.
Peasant pulls 7.6 near the windows they are breaking

The switch can be found if you go to the windows on the left and find a door. Simple as day.

But I suppose you want me to explain how the puzzles in this room work as well.

When Lordy walks into their room they are going to see 3 big stained glass windows. That are each in three parts. Top, middle bottom.

There is no real point in a screen shot because the details of this puzzle change every time, and by quite a bit. A lot of the windows look the same, the middle is normally a dead female killed with arrow(s), swords, and daggers, sticking out or holding. Hair changes, which way they are facing changes.

The top seems to be males. One of them, the snob who looks a little to much like the peter guy from the Game of Thrones HBO series... but their armor color can be different, symbols or no symbols.. beard length, or maybe they dont have one.

The bottom seems to be kinda like a location, a wintered forest, a fountain in winter. I swear one of them looks like marshmallows roasting over a camp fire, but no, its like axes, stavs, wands and stuff. I almost wonder if the windows are suppose to be this man killed this girl with what at this location.

i digress... you can do any of the 9 panes in any order. Left, center, right windows, top, middle, and bottom panes.

Once you get that, then its time for the massive game board in the middle, some people call it chess, but its really not. The king has a job for his sons and you must work together. *sigh* a few times as the story progresses.

The peasant can see a game board with all the pieces, and some of the junk in the way.

The lord stands at the board by the switch and clicks a piece to move it. They have a few rocks that the peasant cant see to work around.

when you have to work with two pieces, the peasant really has to think ahead, they might need to figure out a way to move them closer and farther a part.

when all else fails, aim to the edge of the board until something falls off and it resets.

.... dont tell me that is what the red lever is for *facepalm*

Peasant switch 8 should be pulled before you start the maze

Peasant should not go towards the bright light cough cough I mean the starting x that Lordy can see. Though they can walk through the maze as long as they dont touch that first checkpoint to a door (on the left?)

Okay... now for how to explain this puzzle.

It's a timed puzzle, but nobody is going to die, just have to start from the beginning and hope the puzzle doesn't change.

Once Peasant goes and stands on the first x walls will come up from the ground. i hope your not claustrophobic heh...

Lordy is in a balcony right across from the creepy ghost puppet thing that tries to kill the one on the stage in "We Were Here" Thankfully, he's not going to stalk his way over to anybody, just watch, and prob laugh as you get this part wrong.

Lordy can click on the area between and get a pretty top view of what is going on in real time.

Communication is again, the key. That is the whole point of this series it seems. Learn how to talk to each other.

If you are like me and struggle with left and right, this is going to suck. Also, agreeing on cardinal points dont always help because you are going to be turning so many times. All you see is walls...

What I have found that helps me both as Lordy and Peasant is "inside, outside, go straight, u turn, skip [x] door(s)"

As long as Peasant is standing on the X the next timer doesn't start so they can map out the best route. You only have so long to get to the next dot, I dont really think there is any wiggle room.

if y'all make each other mad enough, well, there is a way to die pretty soon.

However once you finally get through the maze the floor drops from below Peasant. And Lordy needs to jump over the balcony to go save them again.
Sure free Peasant, but make them stay while you run to the exit

Okay, so the screenshot is after every switch has been flipped. If you forget one the light will be black.

If you have followed this guide by the time you get here 8 should be on. you flip the one in the middle and the bottom right will turn on, this is actually the 12th switch, but I kinda makes sense to do it now for a couple of reasons I will get into as the guide continues.

Btw, with you standing by the exit, Peasant can go to the heckenvator room and turn the wheel to the right and you can just leave them behind.

I guess I should explain how to free Peasant. This might be timed, I personally haven't seen that.

With Peasant standing in his cell, he has two columns on either side of the door that BOTH of yall can move.

From inside the cell, its pointless for them to do it. They will play get to play with it in a bit.

On the left hand side there is a little sign with a shape on it. Guess what you have to do!

If Peasant guesses match the first moving brick on their side to that sign, YOUR WRONG!

Peasant needs to tell the lord what that shape is. Then when they have the right shape on their side, the next sign that needs to be match for brick two will be shown to Peasant on brick one.

Yes, with enough brains, I realize that Peasant can figure it out, or Lordy can after hearing the first one.... But this game is about communication.... and its faster to solve if you work together.

Once you do this 6 times, Peasant is free. Now tell them to stand where Lordy was just standing while Lordy sprints off t the heckenvator.

Okay, I guess Peasant can sprint off, but point stands, one of you needs to stay put..
Playing around a jail cell
Sorry, no pictures. Blue flipped this switch and forgot to take a screenshot. To be honest I'm not even sure where this is. But it was the last switch we got.

Remember the picture i shared by the exit? No? well here, let me share it again.

do you see the six symbols above the switch, yeah, that is coming into play now.

to be honest, blue was looking at my screen and took off and in less than a minute had it done not explaining to me what order or how to do it... at this point we were just wanting to finish together and who cares about a little cheating, we beat it without cheating, one of us getting left behind, it was amusing.

but point stands, whoever is by the exit, explain the symbols, prison cell matches them, a door opens and hey look, another switch.

Now, whoever is by the exit, stay put, because unless you want to make one or both of you die, the next two switches easiest to get by you if you follow these steps.
There is TWO switches in the heckenvator

So I'm reusing screenshots... there really isn't any that look pretty for these two. They are both gotten with the same steps.

So, with I'm assuming Lordy by the exit and Peasant at the bottom. (Look, if Peasant ran to the exit first because they wanted nothing more to do with that Jail cell I understand, but i'm writing like Lordy left them to suffer)

Peasant needs to call the elevator down pushing the button on the wall to the left.

I HIGHLY recommend that as soon as Lordy can, get on the roof of the heckenvator. (okay, i know its called an elevator, but if you both get in it takes you to the lava below, or you know, hecken.)

While riding it down there will be an opening on the back wall, go inside it, because hey look, a switch.

STAY THERE, just for a bit, do NOT get back on the dooddad.

Because Peasant needs to dash in, send and tell the heckenvator to go back up and then get out so you can get on or poor peasant will burn in the lava if you dont jump back off quick enough.

If you do this correctly, you will ride the machine up, up past the exit and on the back wall is another little alcove with a switch.

Go ahead and get back on the machine while Peasant pushes the button on the wall (no you push the button, i push the button, no you turn, my turn) to make it come down one last time, if Lordy is smart enough to get off when they can for the exit.

Then Peasant can finally, safely, ride the stupid heckenvator without going down the hole going to hecken and burning in lava.

I want to point out that really as long as only one person is on/in the thing at a time, you can send it up and down as many times as you need.

if you are like me and jumped on from the bottom switch to soon after your partner told it to go up but haven't escaped... there is enough time for you to jump off to the bottom floor before their ground becomes lava and they die.
Okay, All 12 have been flipped!
Hey look, the gate is open, you don't need someone to hold the wheel for the other to escape.

You don't need to leave someone behind!

Maybe you don't need to ruin the relationship after all

Wait, WHAT, NO

why the hecken are you going back in..... *facepalm*

oh yeah, the whole reason why you went in in the first place is because number 3 and 4 sent up a flare... and you haven't found them.
No point in reading this
So that is it, another guide written for people so they don't have to go to several places to get all the information.

I know this one is light on screenshots

The puzzles are random, things change, sometimes a minor detail, so i'm not playing enough to get screenshots of every detail.

-- if yall bug me enough, I can try to find people to play with to grab all the basic screenshots.

You need to play the game 3 times to get all the achievements.

Run through the game as the Lord,
Run through the game as the Peasant,
Leave alone, get left behind, or find another way.

So one of the times you should run as the Lord or Peasant twice.

I did grow up, and then realized that as long as my bills are paid and i'm responsible/respectful in life, i am a lot happier when i am being me and true to myself.

I dont want to fit in with the awful people who try to force me to be like them.

if you dont like my writing style, why are you wasting your time complaining to a stranger, find one you do like,

please feel free to move on strange being inside my computer who believes they have any say in my life

The guide is decent, if you can activate your own brain to get to the logic conclusions, that is.

Thanks for the guide! Entraining To read and detailed enough to find all the levers :)
ariethninja  [author] 6 Jan @ 7:49pm
... the pictures do have the levers in them? as well as where they are because they are dark and hard to see?

If a guide about "here is the levers, figure everything else out yourself" you are not on the right guide

and if you think my writing is cringe, you def are not in the right place.

I write these guides first for me, this writing style helps motivate me to keep writing. Some people actually like it and find it useful, so they are welcome to enjoy it.

unless someone is willing to throw a lot of pennies my way, I am not likely to change how I write things.

and even then, I would prob turn down the pennies, because I want to be me.
Kaptain Klassic 6 Jan @ 3:08pm
I completely agree with radonne's comment. The walkthrough should be more detailed about lever locations not how to get through the level. It wasn't terriblly difficult to figure out, however some of pictures could have been actually showing the levers instead of just what area the levers were in. Also the writing style makes me cringe. The overuse of the letter "Y" on Lord is annoying.
ariethninja  [author] 6 Jan @ 2:36pm
I dont some feedback on my guides, "hey you missed" "where did you learn to spell, its this"

but, to attack someone's writing style? like most of my guides have the disclaimer of "i am writing this for me, if you don't like it move on" because i understand just how annoying it can be.

However, do people complain to the video walkthroughs that are just as chatty? or is it different because they dont have to read it?

to each thier own. I do not have a problem with someone not liking my writing style, I am not trying to please everybody

i hope they find the help they need, games should be fun
