The perquisites
Things you will need to play the game on ultrawide:

  • A Computer
  • Dave the Diver
  • Borderless Gaming
Downloading and Installing Borderless Gaming
For this step, you need to head over to Borderless Gaming's Github page and download the latest release of the application. (If you want, you can also head over to Borderless Gaming Steam Version to purchase the application directly on steam and at the same time support the creator.)

If you know how to install programs on your computer, you can skip to the next guide section.

Scroll down a little until you see Borderless Gaming X.X.X (X standing for ver.), where you'll find the download and click on it.

Once it has finished downloading, launch the .exe and continue installing it. You WILL need administrative privileges to install the program!

You can choose where you wish to install it, or keep the default path, then follow the rest of the installer.

Once the installation is complete, you can move on to the next step of the guide.

Setting up Borderless Gaming
Once you've launched Borderless Gaming for the first time, you'll see this small window. Dave the Diver will obviously need to be already running for it to show up in Borderless Gaming.

Select DAVE THE DIVER, then click on the arrow icon pointing to the right of the screen to add it to your favorites.

Once that's done, right-click on the now favorited DAVE THE DIVER (right box) and check Full Screen and Auto-Maximize

Setting up Dave the Diver
Time to tab into the game and go to the game settings. Either in the main menu or in-game phone settings.

Once you're in the game settings, scroll down to Resolution and change it down to a 16:9 Aspect ratio. (i.e 2560x1080 > 1920x1080 - 3440x1440 > 2560x1440) Borderless Gaming now should have applied everything, and you should now be able to view further on both edges of the screen.

If you run into issues, where the game rather stretches than unlock the side of the screen, go into Borderless Gaming and press the icon with a square with arrows pointing inwards*

* needs further testing.
Examples
A small selection of in-game screenshot examples of what the game should look like on 21:9 aspect ratio.

Known Issues
I've encountered some minor issues and bugs playing on 21:9 aspect ratio, some of them being;
  • UI stays 16:9
  • Textures and UI that's not meant to be seen on the edge of the screen.
  • When working at the restaurant, the UI for delivering dishes or drinks is off-center.
  • Cutszene black bars apply only within 16:9, rest stays uncovered.

At the point of writing this, I have not encountered any game-breaking issues while playing.
The only issue that can be annoying until you've figured it out is that while working at the restaurant, the UI promps to deliver food or drinks will not be center. A workaround for this is aiming your stamina bar at the customer's prompt. I'll add an example screenshot of this when I get the chance.
Conclusion
In my personal opinion, I think the game is a lot more enjoyable using this workaround. I'm also very inexperienced in making guides, so please excuse the messy layout and everything.

I haven't done much testing playing like this, if you run into any issues, please let me know in the comments. Also if you know of any ways I could improve this guide, don't be afraid to leave suggestions as well!

There is no option to set the resolution to 16:9 just some random resolutions and I cant find a single way to force a custom resolution

I'll add that to the description somewhere, thank you.

This works fine, there is however one crucial detail missing in the guide, and that is that your game needs to be in windowed mode. Maybe the name "borderless gaming" isn't enough :D

This didn't work for me. I followed the steps and it stays stretched. When I checked for "restore window" button in Borderless Gaming, it gets stuck and I can't tab back to Dave the Diver. :steamsad:

When the game stretches, try pressing the restore window back to borderless button in Borderless Gaming, this usually fixes it for me.
