How to fix the "neverending" relaunch of A:CM
By Kasugano
For some people A:CM relaunches every time you quit the game... there are many tips to "fix" this, but they either don't or just temporarily fix the problem for them.

This "non-official" patch fix it by using a custom little launcher specific for this game... nothing fancy... When you start the game, Steam starts the launcher application instead of the game's application, then he starts the game application and wait for it until the game close... then the launcher terminate itself and Steam will not try to start the game again, thus breaking the infinite loop glitch...

Source code is on the GitHub if you wish to compile your own executable...

Edit: its 2020 and my patch still "going strong"... updated the guide to provide a more clear step by step on how to fix.

Source code
I created a repository on github, so you can review the source code there:

https://github.com/vedikasugano/acmsteam-fix
"Step-by-step"
  • Go to your Library and select "Properties" on "Aliens: Colonial Marines"

  • Select "Local Files" and then "Browse Local Files"

  • Navigate through File Explorer to reach inside "Win32" folder of the game...

  • Locate the game's application file:

  • Rename the file to "_ACM" (its a underline before ACM, no spaces)

  • Click here to go to GitHub[github.com] and download the "ACM.exe" highlighted below:

  • Paste the downloaded "ACM.exe" into "Win32 folder... Now you have both "ACM.exe" and "_ACM.exe" in the same folder:

  • Now you can launch and enjoy the game without loops... There is no need to check "compatibility mode" nor "run as administrator" for both files.
Remark(s)
  • You need to reapply this fix again if you recheck the game integrity, because STEAM will download the original game application again.

Yo friend, thanks for caring but for some reason it does not work still. I have downloaded your exe, renamed original to _ACM.exe and pasted your one in. Then launched via steam. It bypass the "updating executable" in steam but it "launches" for like few seconds but instead of opening it just closes and turns off. I had previously trouble with another game with similar error and problem was with wrong dll. Could it be?
