FFXI Steam Playtime Tracking Fixer
About
Steam doesn't track playtime properly in Final Fantasy XI because of how the game is launched through PlayOnline. This tool makes Steam recognize that the game is running, making it track your playtime on the platform!'

You can download FFXI Steam Playtime Tracking Fixer[sebastianscaini.itch.io] from itch here! Source code is also available on Github.[github.com]

FFXI Steam Playtime Tracking Fixer is not compatible with any third party launchers for FFXI. It only works if you launch the game directly from Steam.

Installation Instructions
1. Back up your files before changing anything! The tool doesn't modify the game's files but better safe than sorry.

2. Extract all zipped files into your FFXINA folder.
2.1. You can get to this folder easily from Steam by right clicking on FFXI and selecting "Browse Local Files".

3. Set the launch option to: "PATH TO YOUR GAME INSTALL HERE\FFXINA\FFXI Steam Playtime Tracking Fixer.exe" %command% replacing "PATH TO YOUR GAME INSTALL HERE" with the path to your FFXINA folder.
3.1. The default path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FFXINA\FFXI Steam Playtime Tracking Fixer.exe" but if you have it on a different drive you will need to adjust the path.

4. Press play on Steam and keep the console application window open. Steam will recognize that window as FFXI and track the playtime while it remains open.

The original tool isn't meant to work with Windower but the new version (Playtime Tracking Fixer, linked at the top of the old tool's page) would with a little configuration!

It's been a while, and I could never get this to work with Windower. Might we get the extra steps in the tutorial, for the stupid people like me? lmao

pretty good guide sebastian scaini it worked like a charm and im happy with the solution to this problem!

But maybe, Sebastian Scaini, consider adding, lets just say, a sentence break or a stop sign inbetween the two words "%command% replacing". Ya know, for the, haha well lets just say, non grammaric non reading comprehenshionist gamers but good at gaming gamers out there thanks :mhwgood:

I just launch the settings tool and let it run alongside FFXI.

That said - I use Windower anyway and only realized i could do so recently so my time is nothing compared to year 2004 since i started lol.

Also on Linux so Windower just works better anyway :)

The newer, not specifically FFXI version (Playtime Tracking Fixer) linked at the top of the page for FFXI Playtime Tracking Fixer actually would work with Windower! It just requires a couple extra steps of setup.

If the creator could find a way to make this work with Windower, that would be amazing!

I figured it out after checking and watching my CPU/GPU , it was a setting on my laptop as I thought , now runs quiet =D

Ok maybe just a setting on my laptop then causing it ^^ either way much appreciated that it tracks playtime proper now. :NB_RANGER_NOTE:

It's fairly lightweight so it shouldn't do that. It doesn't on my laptop or handheld PCs either so I'm not sure why it would.

Thanks for making this! just a quick question as I play on Laptop any reason why while the tracker runs it makes my fans kick in and run non stop.
