Introduction
This guide is far from comprehensive and is largely subjective, so don't take these rules as anything you must do. Also, this is only discussing background walls, so if you want tips for any other aspect of building I would use a different guide.
First Steps

After you've constructed the shell of your build, the first step is to add supports in the background along any walls or platforms. Depending on how much dimension you want your build to have you can either extend these supports to the roof or stop them when they reach a platform.

This will split the walls into sections.
The Components of a Room
For the best looking background walls, I find that every section of background must have 3 components: the Base, Sides, and Body.
The first to be constructed is the Base.

The Base should consist of a line of blocks going across the section and optionally some foundation below. Here the Classic Baseboard acts as the Base and the Painted Walls as the foundation.

Note that the Base overlaps onto the foundation (I find that it is best to have the Base overlap onto the foundation, and to never let the Sides or Body overlap onto the Base.)

Now onto the Sides.

The Sides consist of vertical lines of blocks along the left and right border of the section. These can also cover the top border of the section.

Finally, the body consists of a rectangle of blocks filling in the rest of the section.
Make sure that the body does not overlap onto any of the Sides or Border, and I recommend to choose a block that is not to detailed like any kind of small bricks (Otherwise it can feel to crowded to look at)
Expanding the Background
Now the same process will be done to the rest of the sections in the build.

If your base has a foundation, I would recommend removing that foundation in any sections directly above one with a foundation and not do what is shown above.

Now continue the expansion...

And add windows!
Finishing Touches
In this case I feel like this background is a bit to crowded...

So I merge some of the sections and add some new Body.

Lastly I recommend using Wooden Lattices for the backgrounds of any sort of Porch or Balcony

Now all that's left is furniture...

And we're done!

I like the asymetrical personality to this house, Frackin Universe has me building so much too, my sides often flow into the hull(base), especially blast door sections and compartments when it fits, love all QoL too, speeds up the process. :cozybethesda:

For some combinations of mods (Frackin' Universe I am looking at you) triple-block walls on some biomes are a must.......
