Foreword
This guide was originally made for a friend on Google Sheets, before it was suggested that I also make it public on Steam. You can find the Sheets version of this guide here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12GQgDqTKej90EGcpk2fiUKaW8R2wmxW77yb2Msueq-M/edit?usp=sharing

As I prefer the editing options available in Google Sheets, I've opted to leave the original guide available to everyone there. While I will make my best attempt to recreate the guide in Steam as well, I suspect that the above version will be the easier of the two to parse.

This is my first attempt at a guide of this kind. I sought to balance both efficiency and variety, taking on what events I could that would also provide social stat benefit at the same time. There will undoubtedly be more efficient routes found, as everything here simply comes from my own personal play experience in the early days of release. This guide is for those who find themselves paralysed by choice, or worried that they might miss an achievement that requires specific actions on specific days (of which there are a number in this game).

If you're looking for a more comprehensive guide than this one, I would recommend Hayate's guide here: https://test-steamproxy.haloskins.io/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3346632862

Let me know if there are any mistakes in this guide, and I will fix them as soon as possible. Most of all, enjoy the story of Metaphor!
Before You Begin
In order to get every achievement, you will need to do a second run on NG+, and on at least Easy difficulty for that run. If you are looking to get through everything as quickly as possible, I recommend:
  1. Do your first playthrough on Storyteller, not only to breeze through combat, but also to reduce grinding due to increased XP/MAG gain.
  2. Start your second playthrough on either Easy (minimum requirement and fastest for all achievements) or Hard. If you then want to bump the difficulty up to Regicide later for more challenge, you can. Once on Regicide, however, you can't reduce the difficulty back down.

This guide is primarily a chronicle of my own play experience, and will not guide you through combat in the slightest. There are a number of difficult fights throughout this game, and I leave you to discover and experience them yourselves. I want to still leave things for everyone to enjoy on their own, rather than just ticking off a checklist!

Finally, a few things that I think are worth noting:
  • After mastering an archetype, you will start receiving 1k A-EXP items for each 1k extra A-EXP you earn, so there is no A-EXP loss while on a mastered archetype. As such, you shouldn't feel the need to switch off an archetype just because it's mastered.
  • In the early game, if you're low on MP, make use of the MC's extra ability on Mage, which recovers 1 MP with every overworld kill. Handy in a pinch.
  • The Merchant Archetype gives 15 x (MC's LVL) cash per mob killed in the overworld, which is useful for early grinding (this guide pushes to unlock merchant ASAP)
  • Generally, for social stats, you should be fine with just about any balanced approach, but I would recommend against Courage due to its excess elsewhere.
  • While fast travel is quicker, consider sword-surfing around town as you go, as it takes a good amount of time to get your travel distance up for the Sword Surfer achievement.

You can spend the evening with a character of your choice. This time, the rewards differ by character, each giving a weapon for the lineage they're related to (All 320 ATK with small MP recovery every turn in battle):
- Strohl: Warrior
- Hulkenburg: Knight
- Neuras: Gunner
- Heismay: Thief
- Junah: Masked Dancer
- Eupha: Summoner
- Gallica: Mage
I chose Gallica again for my first playthrough
I'd love to see someone dedicated enough to go through to NG+7 for all the weapons and accessories from character interactions!

Once back in the Inn for the evening, it's a good opportunity to spam through Gallica's 100 interactions for the achievement. She only has the single line when you interact, so it doesn't get any faster than this.

The respawning mimics at the end of this dungeon are, by far, the best A-EXP grind spot in the game. As there are a good number of spare days in this schedule, you can come back here later during blight for more EXP, and break up the grinding as you wish.
We will be following this up with one of the hardest bosses in the game, for which you will need moves that ignore resistances. Leave once you have a decent amount of A-EXP items on hand in preparation.

In order to get one of the achievements, head straight for the objective and final boss without fighting any side bosses (remember to save right before the end). Once you defeat the final boss at its full power and get the achievement, you can reload, go back and fight all the side bosses, and re-clear before saving your clear data if you so choose.
There is one last grind spot on the last map. The 2 spawners that spawn teeth mobs can occasionally spawn a giant tooth. Squad combat will result in 1 giant gold, and 1 giant platinum tooth. Both teeth drop an accessory that repels physical attacks, and they also have a rare Health or Energy Incense steal/drop. EXP, A-EXP and MAG are all good here, so grind to your heart's content before you finish the game! If you destroy the spawner, just head to Akademeia and it'll respawn.

Congratulations on completing the game!

i followed this guide on my first run in the game

anyone know a good follow up schedule guide for new game plus runs not needing royal virtues and mostly focusing on gear bonds and story?
kaiser 3 Jun @ 12:30am
august 24th night i could not bond with heismay as my imagination was not high enough. it is very possible i have missed something and now will have to bond with a different character and come back to this later im guessing.

and funnily enough, I got the Briny Salt from the pantry after making this vent comment. I would suggest for OP if they still update this, to include reminders to check the pantry like they did with the toilet luck. Maybe I'm the only one, but sometimes games like this with time mechanics always make me overthink what I need to do and I end up forgetting small things like the pantry, and so having those reminders would be helpful.

Wish this guide was a bit more thorough. I followed it all until July 17th, where I was SUPPOSED to make Coney Stew, but I only have 1 Briny Salt instead of the 2 I require. I suppose OP had 2 at the moment and didn't think of mentioning ways to get Briny Salt in here, but regardless, now I feel stuck. I suppose I'll have to continue with the guide and hope that I come across Briny Salt again, and even then, remember that I'm missing the Coney Stew in the first place in order to make it. Just feels annoying now since I'm the type to follow guides strictly and so I assumed OP would have mentioned somewhere about when to specifically seek out this Briny Salt. Anyways decent guide so far, but yeah just needed to vent for a bit.
Wehzy 12 Mar @ 11:38am
This guide actually sucks. He said two times go to the main objective before leveling up and now i gotta replay 2 hours for the second time because im under level'd.
Macus64 10 Mar @ 3:15am
Thanks for all your work on this, it's really helped.

I thought there was a mistake, but I believe now that on August the 24th Night, the only way to progress the Bond for Heismay is to ensure you rank up More as mentioned in your notes... the only change I'd suggest would be to capture "Imagination Rank Up (4)" somewhere on this day to make it more obvious this is required before continuing.
Wehzy 4 Mar @ 8:33am
There is no way to clear Belega Corridor before Grand Cathedral. I wasted 2 hours and i always get one shot killed.
Arion 5 Feb @ 9:40am
Right, so the last one requires new game+ ... or does it? Noway i'm replaying the whole thing again, and thankfully there's an easy to fix to this problem: https://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?t=31583&start=75

That's a cheat table that can turn on the new game plus flag, enabling you to fight the superboss without replaying the game. It can also change the difficulty from Storyteller to something else, even Regicide if you want, thus enabling the fight.

Let's be honest, having to start over... That's a big time waster. I could play the game again like 5 years later or something, but not right away no thanks.

@Arion added a bit to the "Before you Begin" section about working on sword-surfing, cheers.
