Introduction
This guide solves core issues of the game (bugs, melee weapon damage, lack of fast travel alternatives, weird faces) without of going overboard.
Core
Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE xOBSE)[www.nexusmods.com]
Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, obse_steam_loader.dll and the Data folder to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion". Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.

Launch the .exe file and select your oblivion.exe in the opened window.

Simply copy the folder "Textures" from the folder "Cyrodiil" to your "Oblivion\Data" directory and confirm the overwriting of existing files. If you have Shivering Isles, also copy the folder "Textures" from the folder "Shivering Isles" to your "Oblivion\Data" directory.

OFF-Optimized Facegen Files[www.nexusmods.com]
Locate "textures" and "meshes" folders and copy them to (install folder)\Oblivion\Data\

Natural Faces[www.nexusmods.com]
Copy the files to (install folder)\Oblivion\Data\

High Resolution Faces for Roberts Male and Female[www.nexusmods.com]
Locate the "textures" folder and copy it to (install folder)\Oblivion\Data\
Finishing the setup
Download and install LOOT[loot.github.io]

Open LOOT, make sure that you're looking at Oblvion load order, press "Sort Plugins'.

Launch the game through Steam and check every plugin in Data Files. If their order does not align with LOOT order, run LOOT again.

You're done! Enjoy the game.

maybe bethesda should have spent more time making oblivion work instead of reselling skyrim 50 times

thank you for making this guide it was very helpful indeed, but i will only be taking the ui mod that enables me to use controller support

Do above and add 'Northern Ui ' and you now have Full controller support....I'm amazed that that was just left out...:steamfacepalm:

LOOT wont sort my mods. its sorted in LOOT, even cleaned them with TES4edit, something not mentioned in this guide. but even before i did that, the load orders were not the same, and i could not change it with LOOT, any advice on this? ive ran loot and sorted like 6 times!!

Worked like a charm, but like @EmberMayve said you do have to toggle on the ESPs in the Oblivion Launcher You may want to add that to the guide. :steamthumbsup:

Excellent guide, missing one step which is to toggle on the ESPs in the Oblivion Launcher post installation of these files. After that it should run fine.

also data files on oblivion are sorted by alphabetical, so they wouldnt even be the same order as loot
