The Allcat described catnip as a gift from the "Cosmic Purr" that is meant to remind cats of their heritage and connect them to the spiritual dimension of the galaxy. In one of the most important books of the Cat Faith, "Holy Meowchando" the Allcat said:

After all, the Great Meowmer himself, in his infinite wisdom, warned his followers against the pernicious abuse of Catnip. Regardless of Status or Generation.

But the history of the galaxy teaches us that even the most sacred gifts can be perverted.
