Kegworks[github.com] is a convenient open source tool to run Wine[www.winehq.org] on Mac OS. Please follow the installation instructions on the Kegworks repository[github.com], which in turn requires either MacPorts[www.macports.org] or Homebrew[brew.sh].

You can download the game via Steam running on Mac OS, without any extra downloads or running it through Wine.

Open your browser, enter into the address bar the following URL:
steam://open/console

You will see the Steam Console tab now, which is being used to download the Windows version of the game:


This forces Steam to assume your platform is Windows, starts the download and then sets it back to Mac OS.


Next you have to find the Gnomes installation, which you can do by pressing the cog symbol on the game page:

Copy the Gnomes game folder to a convenient location, like the Desktop for example:

Finally you will have to set up Kegworks Winery, create a container, copy the game and run it.

First, open Kegworks Winery and click the + symbol to install a new Engine. WS12WhiskyWine2.5.0 seems to run fine with Gnomes. Click on 'Create New Blank Wrapper'. The application will hang for a short while and then ask you if you want to view the new Wrapper in Finder.

Opening the wrapper in Finder will open the configuration menu, which you can open again if you right-click the app, click on 'Show Package Contents' and inside the folder is 'Kegworks Config'.

Next, click in 'Install Software' and on the opening dialog click 'Copy a Folder', navigate to the folder you copied the game and confirm the starting executable with gnomes.exe:

Finally, click on 'Advanced', change the icon if you wish by one and press Test Run. The game should open and you should be able to play.
