Introduction
If you like my work and want to support, you can read this same guide on my blog: https://www.soloplayguide.com/games/final-fantasy-pixel-remaster/guide
Classes
There are a total of 6 classes in this game. All of them can be upgraded making a total of 12.
  • Fighter / Knight: A well-balanced class for physical attack, can equip a majority of equipment. When upgraded to a Knight, this class can learn low level white magic spells.
  • Thief / Ninja: Good at speed and accuracy. Until it is upgraded to Ninja, Thief is not a really useful class. Ninja can equip most of the equipment and can low to mid-level black magic.
  • Monk / Master: As a master of martial art, Monk is very strong in physical attack in early game. Although it lacks growth, especially, defensive stats and cannot use magic.
  • Red Mage / Red Wizard: Is jack of all trade class. It can equip a majority of equipment, can learn some low to mid-level black and white magic.
  • White Mage / White Wizard: The best class in term support, white mage can heal, revive, and provide various support the team.
  • Black Mage / Black Wizard: This class specializes in dealing magic damage and can learn the highest level of black magic.
By default, your main party consists of "Fighter", "Thief", "White Mage", and "Black Mage". However, you can mix and match your party whatever class you like, make sure it makes sense. For example, 4 Black Belts don't really make any sense.

About Magic
You learn black and white magic by buying them from magic shops. Here are things you need to know:
  • There are 8 levels of black and white magic. Each level has its own MP, cap at 9 MP each.
  • MP is basically the number of times you can use the magic.
  • There are 4 spells for each level, but you can only learn 3 magic spells. So you have to choose wisely what one spell you don't need for each level. I personally DON'T learn spells that cure ailment status that items can cure, because it is a waste of slot.
  • Some equipment can be used to cast spells during a battle, you can read the description of the equipment if it mentions something like ".... that casts (spell) when used.". To use it, go to "Items", then select that equipment to use the magic.
  • Some classes can learn magic too like Red Mage/Red Wizard can learn some of low to mid-level of black and white magic, Knight can learn basic white magic, and Ninja can learn basic black magic.
Order
Character's position is very important too. The top 2 slots are more likely to be hit the most. By default, here is the composition:
  • Slot 1: Fighter
  • Slot 2: Thief
  • Slot 3: White Mage
  • Slot 4: Black Mage
Mages are squishy heroes, so you want to put them at the 2 bottom slots.

Viewing Bestiary
There are 2 ways you can view the bestiary list:
1. From the main menu: "Main Menu" -> "Extra" -> "Bestiary".
2. During gameplay: "Menu" -> "Configuration" -> "Bestiary".

While on bestiary list, you can press Y button (or Tab on keyboard to view monster locations on the map). It provides a nice visual on the map.
Unknown monsters will be displayed as question marks so you cannot rely on the in-game bestiary list. You can view a full list of bestiary here to complete your achievement.
Game Tips
  • Turn on/off "Encounters": this is an invaluable feature. I normally turn it on when I want to go through dungeon quickly.
  • The new update includes a feature "Boost", it allows you to "EXP" and "Money" earn from battle. Just in case you don't want to spend time on grinding, this is your to-go setting.
  • If you are stuck with bosses, it means that your level is low. Just grind a little bit and you'll be fine.
  • Poison and Petrify ailment status do not wear off after the battle. So always stock up "Antidote" and "Gold Needle" as much as you can and use it to remove the poison after the battle.
  • Always use "Quick Save" to frequently, especially before a boss fight.

01. Chaos Shrine - First Visit
Castle Cornelia
Go up and enter the castle, then talk to the guard to initiate your first quest.

Cornelia (Town)
Leave the castle and enter Cornelia town.
The first thing you should do is to shop for weapons and armors, but don't overdo it as you only have 500G. Later on, you won't need to buy any gears as you progress through the game, you'll get better equipment from dungeons. So I'll list a of magic shops you can buy.

Chaos Shrine - First Visit
Our first Dungeon is located in the far north of Cornelia.
Once you reach the shrine, follow the map below and pick up 3 chests before fighting the boss in the middle. Ignore the chests in the 2 rooms on the right side for now.

Bestiary checklist:
  • (B-010) Zombie
  • (B-012) Garland
Enter the middle room for the boss fight.

Boss: Garland (212 HP)

This boss is really easy, keep hitting him with physical attack and magic, he will die in a few turns.

After defeating the boss, you'll appear in Castle Cornelia.
Leave the castle and head north to the bridge.
02. Pravoka
Matoya's Cave (Optional)
Let's make a detour for item collection first.

Pravoka
This town is in the far east of Cornelia and Matoya's Cave. Feel free to talk to town people for stories.

After you are done shopping, go to the house in the top-left corner of the town. Talk to the pirate to initiate a fight. These guys are super squishy anyway.
Once you defeated the pirates, you'll get a ship; it's docked just south of the town.

Achievement - Hidden Game
  • When you are on the ship, Hold X button then press O very quickly (if you are on a keyboard, hold Enter key and press Backspace) until a mini-game screen popup; it's called "15 Puzzle Game".
  • You don't have to complete the game to get the achievement, though.
03. Elven Castle
This section is optional, but it serves as your stop before our next dungeon.
Elven Castle (Optional)

Elfheim (Optional)
Once done, enter the town, Elfheim, and do some upgrade if you have money to spare. Everything here is expensive, so you don't have to buy all of them.

IMPORTANT: stock up as much as "Antidote" as you'll be encountering monsters with poison from here on.

Note: "Haste" is one of the best spells you can have, it greatly boosts number of hits on your damage dealers (Fighter/Monk/Red Mage etc.)

I suggest you grind a bit before going to the next dungeon. Upgrade your gears and stock up items.

08. Melmond
Note: This town doesn't have an item shop, so if you want to stock up items, you'll have to go back to Cornelia.
