Earning 100% in Left 4 Dead will require many many many playthroughs of the 6 different Campaigns. Fortunately, for the most part, this is very fun to do & will only get tedious near the end when we are grinding the final long running Achievements. A good chunk of the Achievements can be earned through Solo play, however there 15 Online exclusive Achievements we will need to earn as well. The AI in this game also is not the best, & many of the “Solo Achievements” can be earned much more easily with a second partner (or more).

The bulk of the Achievements we need to earn will be “Kill X” Achievements. Due to how random encounters are with Special Infected, it is difficult to create a linear roadmap for this game. As such, you should always be aware of which Achievements you still need to unlock & for what Special Infected. There can be a lot of luck involved… but for the most part, all will be earned through natural progression at some point given how many Campaign runs we will be doing.

The longest Achievement we will be working towards over our 100% will be the Zombie Genocidest Achievement where we must kill 53,595 Infected; kills by anyone other than yourself will not count. Whenever possible, kill as many Infected as you can. If you are on lower Difficulties, always take advantage of Car Alarms or even Boomers to attract Hordes to net as many kills per Campaign run as possible. There will be a final strategy involved to unlock it at the very end of our 100%, but the more you can bank before then, the quicker that process will be.

Apart from beating the Campaigns on Expert Difficulty, our next most difficult Achievements to earn will be for earning a Gold Medal on all Survival Maps. If you are playing with multiple Players, it won’t be “too bad” to earn naturally. If you only have another partner, or are by yourself, there is a mod exploit we can use that will remove all Special Infected from the Survival Maps (including Tanks) so all you fight is the regular Infected. I will go into more detail in the Sequence it is covered in…

For those interested, here is an organized list of all the Achievements/Secret Achievements. This is how I derive my Achievement Breakdowns & the first reference I create before I begin my 100% journeys.

Guide contains minor spoilers*.
Sequence 1: Curing the Infection
1. Campaign: No Mercy
2. Achievements: 11/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Mercy:
Apart from Expert, there are no Achievements for playing on other Difficulties; if you are playing Solo, I recommend just playing on Easy…

Campaign Focus: Finish the Campaign with all Survivors alive onboard the Rescue Vehicle.

Infected Focus: Headshots, kills with Molotovs/fire, kills with Mounted Machine Guns, Boomers, Hunters, Smokers, Tanks

No Mercy – The Apartments:

Achievement #1 – Dead Stop: Punch a Hunter as he is pouncing.
This is one of the easier Special Infected related Achievements. Whenever you encounter a Hunter, try to bait them into pouncing on you. When they are mid-air coming at you, spam melee/push to strike the Hunter out of the air to unlock the Achievement.

No Mercy – The Subway:
During this Chapter, we will have a mandatory encounter with a Tank. Keep your eyes open for a Molotov as we progress & hold onto it until the Tank arrives so we can earn the Towering Inferno Achievement.

Achievement #2 – Clean Kill: Shove a Boomer & then kill him without him splashing on anyone.
When we come across Boomers, & are in open or maneuverable locations, quickly melee/push them back & kill them to unlock the Achievement. You must be the one to push the Boomer & kill it; other Survivors cannot assist you or get splashed on when it explodes.

Achievement #3 – Spinal Tap: Kill an Infected with a single blow from behind.
For this Achievement, you need to get behind any Common Infected & melee strike it in the back of the head or spine. If you were undetected, & it has not taken any other damage, the attack to the back should instantly kill it, unlocking the Achievement.

Achievement #4 – Towering Inferno: Light a Tank with a Molotov.
When we exit the Subway tunnel & enter the large ruined parking garage area with the stone pillars everywhere, we are almost guaranteed to find a Tank. Whether it spawns in the garage or in the upper floor room with the generators, aggro it & lob a Molotov at the Tank to unlock this Achievement.

There is a chance a Witch will spawn instead, & if that is the case, hold onto your Molotov for later…

No Mercy – The Sewer:
Whenever we come across Medkits in Safe Houses or throughout the Campaign as random loot, always take the time to use them to heal other Survivors with them; for the Field Medic Achievement we need to do this 25 times.

Achievement #5 – Tongue Twister: Kill a Smoker who has grabbed you with his tongue.
When we come across Smokers, equip your Primary Weapon (not Pistol) & wait for its tell-tale scream that it is about to shoot its tongue at you. As soon as it does, unload your bullets into it to kill it. Do not wait until you are actually grabbed as you have a small window before you get dragged.

You must kill the Smoker, & it must be you that is being attacked.

Achievement #6 – Drag & Drop: Rescue a Survivor from a Smoker's tongue before they take damage.
Alternatively, if it is a Survivor who gets dragged by the Smoker, quickly kill the Smoker or melee the Survivor to dislodge the tongue before the Smoker begins striking/choking it to unlock this Achievement.

We need to do this 10 times for the No Smoking Section Achievement.

No Mercy – The Hospital:

Achievement #7 – Blind Luck: You or another Survivor take no damage after being vomited on by a Boomer.
As our final Boomer Achievement, anytime you find a Boomer & are in a good position, get it to puke on you or get splashed when you kill it. With that done, get your back against the wall & spam melee to keep Infected away from you while the other Survivors kill them. If done right, & you took no damage after being covered, you will unlock the Achievement. Hiding inside Closets or dead end corners is the easiest way to stay safe.

Achievement #8 – Hero Closet: Rescue a Survivor trapped in a Closet.
When any Survivor dies (intentionally or accidentally), wait/run around for a few minutes & they should spawn inside a nearby Closet; they will be outlined in orange banging on the door. Quickly go to the Closet & open it to respawn the Survivor & unlock the Achievement. There are lots of incidents that can cause a Survivor to die, even on Easy, such as getting blasted off of a high point by a Tank…

If you wanted to quickly grind this Achievement, start up a Campaign on Normal & kill a Survivor yourself with your guns. When they die, carry on through the Campaign as normal until they spawn in a Closet to be rescued.

No Mercy – Rooftop Finale:

Achievement #9 – Tank Busters: Kill a Tank without it dealing any damage to a Survivor.
This Achievement is more luck based than anything on where the Tank spawns & how your Survivors act around it. If you get enough of a head start shooting at the Tank with your Primary Weapons or a Mounted Machine Gun, there is a good chance you can annihilate one before it reaches yourself or other Survivors. This definitely easier to do on Easy Difficulty, naturally.

Achievement #10 – Mercy Killer: Survive the No Mercy Campaign.
Story Related. Complete the No Mercy Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the Rescue Vehicle arrives & the Credits Roll, you will not unlock the Achievement!

Achievement #11 – No One Left Behind: Beat a Campaign with all 4 Survivors.
If all four Survivors got onto the Rescue Vehicle & survived, we will unlock this Achievement.

No Mercy can be a trickier one to pull this off on if you are unlucky with Tanks & have someone get blasted off of the roof… This Achievement can be earned on any Campaign.
Sequence 2: Hell Came to Earth
1. Campaign: Death Toll
2. Achievements: 19/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Death Toll:

Campaign Focus: Finish the Campaign using only Pistols or Dual Pistols.

Infected Focus: Headshots, kills with Molotovs/fire, Smokers, Hunters, Witches

Death Toll – The Turnpike:
If you are attempting the Akimbo Assassin Achievement, you cannot pick up any Primary Weapon at all! Picking up a Machine Gun, Shotgun, Hunting Rifle, etc. & even just not using it will still void the Achievement. We must play the entire Campaign with only our Pistol or Double Pistols equipped; Molotovs & Pipe Bombs or still allowed, but Mounted Machine Guns are not…

Death Toll – The Drains:

Achievement #12 – Pyrotechnician: Blow up 20 Infected in a single explosion.
Hold onto a Pipe Bomb as we play & wait for a Horde to arrive. When it does, & this takes a bit of luck depending on how open of an area you are in (the tighter the quarters the better) throw your Pipe Bomb & lead the other Survivors away so they do not whittle the Horde down. If you were lucky, your Pipe Bomb will have killed at least 20 Common Infected & unlocked the Achievement.

Death Toll – The Church:

Achievement #13 – 101 Cremations: Set 101 Infected on fire.
Anytime you find Molotovs or Gas Canisters, always use them up & try killing as many Common Infected as you possible can with them; this will come naturally as we playthrough the game…

This is also a cumulative Achievement & does not have to be done in a single Campaign.

Achievement #14 – Burn the Witch: Light a Witch with a Molotov.
When you are not using Pipe Bombs, locate a Molotov & hold onto it until we encounter a Witch next. When you find one, walk up to it quickly & throw the Molotov at it to unlock this Achievement.

Death Toll – The Town:
Remember not to use the Mounted Machine Gun when lowering the Forklift near the end of the Chapter if you are attempting the Akimbo Assassin Achievement

Achievement #15 – Brain Salad: Make 100 Headshot kills.
This will come naturally as we play through the game, whether intentionally or accidentally. When Hordes arrive & you are in an opportune position with some high ground, Crouch to increase your aim & fire at head level for maximum efficiency; Assault Rifles & SMGs are the most effective for this.

Achievement #16 – Pharm-Assist: Give Pain Pills to 10 Survivors.
Any time that you find Pain Pills, always try to hand them off to the other Survivors as quickly as possible before they pick them up themselves. If they do have Pills & you do not, you can injury yourself to < 40% health & they will give you their Pills; give them back the Pills if they do this.

Unfortunately, we cannot keep giving the same Pills back & forth to Survivors – a passed off bottle of Pain Pills will only count once.

Death Toll – Boathouse Finale:
Do not use the Mounted Machine Gun during the Finale conflict if you are attempting the Akimbo Assassin Achievement

Achievement #17 – Field Medic: Heal 25 Survivors with a First Aid Kit.
Whenever you find spare Medkits in a Chapter or Safe House, & all other Survivors possess one, “waste” the Medkit & heal your companions to contribute to this Achievement. Especially if you play on Easy, you will not be in too much trouble & your companions will only ever be hurt marginally, leaving many Medkits to spare.

Healing yourself does not contribute to the Achievement.

Achievement #18 – Toll Collector: Survive the Death Toll Campaign.
Story Related. Complete the Death Toll Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the Rescue Vehicle arrives & the Credits Roll, you will not unlock the Achievement!

Achievement #19 – Akimbo Assassin: Survive an entire Campaign using only Pistols.
If you completed a Campaign having never used the Mounted Machine Gun or ever picking up a Primary Weapon, we will unlock this Achievement after we escape. This Achievement can be earned on any Campaign…
Sequence 3: No Hope. No Cure.
1. Campaign: Dead Air, Blood Harvest
2. Achievements: 28/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dead Air:

Campaign Focus: Finish the Campaign without ever being incapacitated.

Infected Focus: Saving Survivors from Smoker tongue, pushing a Hunter off a pinned Survivor, “crown” a Witch

Dead Air – The Greenhouse:

Achievement #20 – Hunter Punter: Shove a Hunter off of a pinned & helpless Survivor.
This is a very situational Achievement, & I actually had a bit of difficulty pulling it off as the other Survivors would typically kill the Hunters faster than I could. When the stars align, & a Hunter has pounced on a Survivor close by you, quickly melee the Hunter off of them to unlock the Achievement.

Dead Air – The Crane:
Chip away at cumulative or “luck based” Achievements…

Dead Air – The Construction Site:
Chip away at cumulative or “luck based” Achievements…

Dead Air – The Terminal:

Achievement #21 – Cr0wnd: Kill a Witch with a single Headshot.
This can be a very tricky Achievement to unlock; you may want to save this one for our Chapter Select Mop Up Sequence.

To crown a Witch, we will need to find an Auto-Shotgun (the strongest Shotgun) in a Safe House or throughout the Campaign. Once you have one, we then need to locate a Witch. Once both are found, quickly approach the Witch & aim the Auto-Shotgun straight into her head/face; some people tell you to Crouch but that isn’t necessary. With the Shotgun barrel pressed against the Witches head, pull the trigger to instantly kill her & “crown” her for the Achievement.

This is a very finicky Achievement, as basically every ounce of buckshot needs to hit her in the head for an instant kill.

If this is one of the last few Achievements you need in mop up, always carry around an Auto-Shotgun to attempt for this Achievement.

Achievement #22 – Witch Hunter: Kill a Witch without any Survivor taking damage from her.
Crowning a Witch will also unlock this Achievement as well for obvious reasons. If you cannot crown a Witch, you may earn this Achievement sooner as 2-3 blasts from the Auto-Shotgun can single-handedly kill a Witch on Easy Difficulty.

Dead Air – Runway Finale:

Achievement #23 – Dead Baron: Survive the Dead Air Campaign.
Story Related. Complete the Dead Air Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the Rescue Vehicle arrives & the Credits Roll, you will not unlock the Achievement!

Achievement #24 – Stand Tall: Survive a Campaign without being incapacitated.
This can be a very luck based Achievement, especially in regard to Tanks or Witches. If you play very carefully & defensively, you might be able to make it through the entire Campaign without going down once.

This is best done on Easy Difficulty. If you have trouble with this Achievement, attempting it on the Crash Course Campaign may help as it is quite short.

Blood Harvest:

Infected Focus: Saving Survivors from Smoker tongues, Headshot a Hunter while it is pouncing.

Blood Harvest – The Woods:

Achievement #25 – Jump Shot: Headshot a Hunter while he's leaping.
This is another very situational & “luck based” Achievement. The best Primary Weapon to use for this is the Assault Rifle; always pack one around or an SMG when working towards this. When you find a Hunter, range in its head & start walking backwards; when it goes to pounce on you, start shooting & attempt to kill it.

The secret caveat to this Achievement is that we only have to hit the Hunter with a Headshot… not actually kill it with one. This actually unlocked for me accidentally as a reflex when a Hunter was leaping at me.

Blood Harvest – The Tunnel:
Chip away at cumulative or “luck based” Achievements…

Blood Harvest – The Bridge:

Achievement #26 – No Smoking Section: Kill 10 Smokers as they are pulling helpless Survivors.
This is one of our longer situational Achievements. Whenever one of our companions is being dragged away by a Smoker, perform the finishing kill on it to free them & contribute towards this Achievement. Melee/pushing the tongue off the Survivor will not work & we must kill a Smoker while it is dragging them.

Blood Harvest – The Train Station:

Achievement #27 – My Bodyguard: Protect any Survivor from an attacking Infected 50 times.
This will come naturally as we play through the game; especially once we begin working towards our Survival Achievements. Whenever Hordes are swarming us, make a point of shooting the Infected around our companions to defend them & contribute towards this Achievement.

This is a cumulative Achievement across all Campaigns we play…

Blood Harvest – Farmhouse Finale:

Achievement #28 – Grim Reaper: Survive the Blood Harvest Campaign.
Story Related. Complete the Blood Harvest Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the Rescue Vehicle arrives & the Credits Roll, you will not unlock the Achievement!
Sequence 4: The Sacrifice
1. Campaign: The Sacrifice
2. Achievements: 32/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sacrifice:

Campaign Focus: Play as Bill, & be the one to sacrifice themselves at the end of the Campaign.

Infected Focus: Kill an Infected using an Explosive Barrel.

The Sacrifice – The Docks:

Achievement #29 – Barrel Rolled: Kill a Special Infected with an Exploding Barrel.
This can be a very “luck based” Achievement as the timing of finding an Exploding Barrel & also having a Special Infected near it can be hard to come by. Whenever you find an Exploding Barrel, hang around them & try to get Special Infected to spawn to try kiting them towards the Barrel.

Alternatively, this can also be unlocked much more easily with a Friend during Online Versus. Load up The Sacrifice & play as the Survivors until you find an Exploding Barrel. Have your Friend playing as a Special Infected stand near or on it, & blow the Exploding Barrel up to kill them to unlock the Achievement.

The Sacrifice – The Barge:
Chip away at cumulative or “luck based” Achievements…

The Sacrifice – Port Finale:

Achievement #30 – Supreme Sacrifice: Complete The Sacrifice Campaign
Story Related. Complete The Sacrifice Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the bridge is lowered or you perform the Sacrifice, you will not unlock this Achievement!

Achievement #31 – Kill Bill: Have Bill sacrifice himself for the team.
Replay the Sacrifice Campaign, & this time play as Bill. When the Generator runs out during the Finale, & someone needs to perform the Sacrifice, volunteer yourself & have everyone throw Pipe Bombs to lure away the Infected so you can get there safely.

If you get incapacitated before turning on the Generator, you will fail & have to try again!

Online Campaign – The Sacrifice:

Achievement #32 – Chaos Generator: Have all 3 Generators running at once in The Sacrifice finale.
For this Achievement we will need a minimum of two other Friends playing with us. When you reach the Finale, have everyone approach the three Generators & count down to activate them all at the exact same time to unlock the Achievement.
Sequence 5: Crash Course
1. Campaign: Crash Course
2. Achievements: 36/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash Course:

Campaign Focus: Sneak past all Witches & do not alert them for the entire Campaign.

Crash Course – The Alleys:

Achievement #33 – Tank Stumble: Stun a Tank with an explosion in the Crash Course Campaign.
You can cause a Tank to be stunned & stumble if you blow up a Pipe Bomb or a Propane Tank right beside it. Throughout the Campaign, always hold onto your Pipe Bombs & wait for a Tank to appear – you can also lug around a Propane Tank if you are feeling brave as well though this is much more difficult for obvious reasons…

The Tank must stumble away looking dizzy from the stun animation or the Achievement won’t unlock.

Crash Course – The Truck Depot Finale:

Achievement #34 – Quick Power: Restart the Generator within 30 seconds of it shutting off.
During the Finale section, we will start up a Generator & have to defend ourselves as it lowers down our Rescue Vehicle to us; hold onto a Pipe Bomb! When the second Tank appears, the power will go out & the Generator will fail. As soon as the power goes out, get to the Generator as fast as possible & throw your Pipe Bomb to lure away the incoming Horde. As soon as you get to the Generator, restart it to unlock the Achievement; it fortunately starts up at double speed compared to when you first had to...

Achievement #35 – Crash Proof: Survive the Crash Course Campaign.
Story Related. Complete the Crash Course Campaign to unlock the Achievement; if you die during the final moments of the Campaign when the Rescue Vehicle arrives & the Credits Roll, you will not unlock the Achievement!

Achievement #36 – Do Not Disturb: Sneak past all Witches in a Campaign without disturbing one.
This is an extremely “luck based” Achievement depending on how/where the Witch spawns. In general, barring poor Survivor AI choices, Witches are pretty easy to avoid. What makes this luck based, is that a good portion of the time, a Witch will spawn directly in your way to continue through a Chapter. They can spawn in doorways, in the middle of bridges, or directly in front of objects you need to interact with.

Due to how short the Crash Course Campaign is, & since we technically need to accumulate a small geocide’s worth of Infected kills during it exclusively, it is the best Campaign to keep repeating to attempt this Achievement.
Sequence 6: Interlude
1. Campaigns: No Mercy, Dead Air, Crash Course
2. Achievements: 42/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Mercy – The Apartments:

Achievement #37 – Back 2 Help: Leave a safe room to save an incapped teammate & bring them back safely.
Make your way to the end of the Chapter to just before heading down the stairs to the Safe Zone where the Car Alarm is above them. Switch the Difficulty to Expert using Call A Vote, & whittle the AI Survivor’s health down to < 10%. When ready, shoot the Car Alarm & sprint down to the Safe House. When you are inside, wait the couple seconds for the whole party to be incapacitated & switch the Difficulty back to Easy. Leave the Safe House & finish off the Horde; revive at least one of our companions & bring them into the Safe House to unlock the Achievement.

It is most ideal to incapacitate the whole party, as if you leave people alive, they might Revive the downed Survivors before you can.

No Mercy – The Subway:

Achievement #38 – Man Vs Tank: Single-handedly kill a Tank.
The best way to unlock this Achievement, if you have not already by fluke, is to do a bit of finagling. Load up or play to this Chapter, & make your way to the parking garage where the guaranteed Tank will spawn; be sure to grab an Assault Rifle or Auto-Shotgun near the trainyard before reaching it. If you encounter the Tank early in this area instead of a Witch, you will most likely want to reload & start again as the Tank will not spawn where we want it to.

When the stars align, & you can hear a Tank in or above the parking garage, pause & select the Call A Vote. Change the Difficulty to Expert, & quickly incapacitate the AI Survivors. Switch it back to Easy Difficulty & carry on to aggro the Tank; dispatch it by yourself to unlock the Achievement. No other Survivor can damage the Tank but you for it to count!

This is not a fool proof strategy as the Tank can incapacitate you or worse, a Hunter or Smoker snags you before you can even engage the Tank.

An alternate method to obtain this is by playing Online Versus with a Friend. Manually incapacitate your AI Survivors but have your Friend be the one controlling the Tank when it is time. Have your Friend stand still… & just kill them by yourself to unlock the Achievement.

No Mercy – Rooftop Finale:

Achievement #39 – Ground Cover: Save another Survivor from a Special Infected while on the ground.
This Achievement takes a bit of set up, but is not actually that difficult to do; you will have the easiest time on No Mercy’s Rooftop Finale, though it can technically be done anywhere. This is also best done with a Friend, but can be done Solo with some trial & error. Start the Chapter on Expert & kill off two of the three Survivors then reduce the Difficulty back down to Easy. Grab a Pipe Bomb from the equipment table, head up the stairs to the upper hallway & throw the Pipe Bomb to clear out the Common Infected up here… then wait. If you are Solo, you will want to use the Common Infected to reduce your Health down as low as possible beforehand so you can be more easily incapacitated.

After a few seconds a Hunter, Smoker, or Boomer will appear; if it is not a Hunter, kill it, & wait for one to spawn. Once you have a Hunter, head back down the stairs to the Safe Room, hide in one of the dead in rooms in the hallway, or simply run straight at it so you are pounced on. If you have a Friend, have them wait until you are incapacitated then shove the Hunter off you, then let themselves be pounced on by the Hunter; while you are incapacitated, simply kill the Hunter before your Friend is incapped’ to unlock the Achievement. If you are playing Solo, there is a good chance the AI will just kill the Hunter instead of shoving it, or immediately kill it after it is shoved which makes it pretty challenging & very “luck based”.

Dead Air – Runway Finale:

Achievement #40 – Untouchables: No Survivors take damage after contacting the Rescue Vehicle.
This is a very difficult & “luck based” Achievement; it is best done with at least one Friend, but can be done Solo. While there are many strategies & exploits out there for each Campaign Finale, I personally find Dead Air’s to be the easiest.

First thing is to load up Dead Air – Runway Finale. Clear the Common Infected in your way & reach the re-fueling truck; it is important to note that any damage taken prior to summoning the Rescue Vehicle does not count.

Where we are going to hold out? When facing the re-fueling truck, head towards the airport terminal behind the truck, under a tramway bridge & past another different re-fueling truck, all the way to the very far corner underneath the tramway bridge above us. This is our holdout point. We have very good visibility here & can dispatch Infected from a long ways a way; it is the Tanks thrown rubble that will cause us most of the grief & potentially ruin our runs.

When ready, & the way is clear, summon the Rescue Vehicle & rush to our hold out corner. Mow down the Infected as they come & be extra vigilant to see if anyone takes a single point of damage; if they do, restart this Chapter. When you dispatch the second Tank, rush towards the back of the airliner & wait for it to open so you can escape; getting to the airliner is the sketchiest part due to potential Infected lurking around corners & hitting you or the AI Survivors.

If done right, our Achievement will unlock during the Credit Roll. Again, though it can be done Solo, having at least one other Friend with for this Achievement can make a world of difference…

Crash Course:

Achievement #41 – Unbreakable: Finish a Campaign without ever using a First Aid Kit on yourself.
This is easiest done on Easy Difficulty & on Crash Course due to how short the Campaign is. Play extremely cautiously & let the AI Survivors do all of the heavy lifting for you; if you are playing with Friends, this can help out a lot.

Pain Pills do not void this Achievement & can keep you going.

Any Campaign:

Achievement #42 – Dead Giveaway: Heal a fellow Survivor when your own health is below 10.
This Achievement can be easily obtained with purpose. Load up any Campaign on Normal or Hard & grab a Medkit. Shoot your AI companions until they heal each other & waste their Medkits; you will then have the only one.
Now go through the Chapter a little ways & begin taking damage until you are precariously at 10% health or less. Once this happens, use your Medkit to heal a companion to unlock the Achievement.

For obvious reasons, this is a finicky Achievement & may take a few tries; attempting this with a Friend can make things easier…
Sequence 7: Expert Campaigns
1. Campaign: No Mercy, Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest
2. Achievements: 46/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Any Campaign:

Achievement #43 – Stomach Upset: All Survivors complete a Campaign without being vomited on.
This is another “luck based” Achievement & best done on Easy Difficulty. Choose whichever Campaign you are most comfortable with (or prefer) & focus on killing every Boomer ever. If playing alone or with a single Friend, the Survivor AI is decent at killing most Special Infected & will stay away from them barring a Horde or them being swarmed.

When attempting this Achievement, solely focus on Boomers. You are Boomer bane. Not a single drop of their fluids via vomit or explosion can hit you or your companions. Make it through a whole Campaign without this ever happening, & you will unlock this Achievement.

I personally like the Death Toll & Dead Air Campaigns for this due to wide open Finale areas when we are most overwhelmed by Infected but Crash Course is probably the best due to how short it is.

Alternatively, as far as I am aware, you can also earn this Achievement playing Online Versus & just have your Friend not vomit on you at all if they play as the Boomer. I am not 100% sure if this strategy will unlock the Achievement or not though...

Achievement #44 – Safety First: Play an entire Campaign with no Survivors taking Friendly Fire damage.
This Achievement is more annoying then actually hard. No member of the team can commit any Friendly Fire. Play any Campaign on Easy Difficulty, & ideally Solo, letting the AI Survivors do all of the work. Focus on just meleeing enemies & only shoot when absolutely necessary.

AI Survivors can still perform Friendly Fire, even on Easy Difficulty, if they accidentally hit a Gas Canister or a Propane Tank. Be aware of these & stay away from them at all costs. Taking damage from Infected is fine, just do not hit your allies or let them hit you with explosives…

No Mercy:

Achievement #45 – Zombicidal Maniac: Survive any Campaign on Expert.
Story Related. Though possible to do Solo… it is incredibly unlikely unless you are a Left4Dead master. To complete any Campaign on Expert, you will at least want 2-4 other Friends accompanying you: all relative to skill. Even as a veteran of this game along with my equally skilled sister, we could not finish a Campaign without a third Friend joining us.

Alternatively, we can employ a bit of an underhanded tactic to unlock these Achievements as well as the Gold Medal Achievements for completing Survival; see the description for this method in Sequence 10: Survival.

Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest:

Achievement #46 – What Are You Trying to Prove?: Survive all 4 Campaigns on Expert.
If you have the grit to survive one Expert Campaign, you can survive them all. Complete No Mercy, Death Toll, Dead Air, & Blood Harvest to unlock this Achievement.

Completing the Crash Course & The Sacrifice Campaigns do not contribute to the Achievement…

63% Complete
Sequence 8: Online Versus
1. Any Campaign, The Sacrifice
2. Achievements: 52/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For our next stretch of the 100%, we will be starting Online Versus. These are all best done with a Friend as they can be quite difficult to do naturally or at least they will take you significantly longer to achieve. For these Achievements, you will need to choose to play as the Infected & have your Friend play as the Survivors.

Any Campaign – Boomer:

Achievement #47 – Barf Bagged: Cover four Survivors with Boomer bile at once.
Start up any Campaign, & cycle through the Special Infected spawns until you can become a Boomer. Have your Friend lure all the Survivors into tight quarters so everyone is bunched up so that you can round the corner & puke on all four of them at once.

This can also be done if the Survivors are all grouped up while fighting a Horde so that they are distracted, making it safer for you to puke on them.

Any Campaign – Smoker:

Achievement #48 – Big Drag: Drag a Survivor 100ft with your tongue as a Smoker.
Next you will want to cycle to playing as the Smoker; & have your Friend kill two of the three AI Survivors. Have them lure the Survivor into an open area where you have good sightlines, then stand as far away from them as you can & slowly inch forward until you can target them at your max distance; being on a building can help. Once you are at the max target distance, hit the AI Survivor & begin dragging them towards you; if it was over 100ft, you will unlock the Achievement. 100ft is 30m in metric if that helps…

Achievement #49 – Chain Smoker: Constrict two Survivors on one life as a Smoker.
Segway-ing into this next Achievement, after you successfully kill the AI Survivor during your 100ft drag, now lock onto your Friend at any distance & incapacitate them next to unlock this Achievement.

Any Campaign – Hunter:

Achievement #50 – Double Jump: Pounce two different Survivors on one life as a Hunter.
This Achievement is exactly like the Chain Smoker Achievement but for the Hunter. Have your Friend kill two of three AI Suvivors, pounce on the surviving one & kill them, then pounce on your Friend to unlock this Achievement.

Achievement #51 – Lamb 2 Slaughter: As an Infected, incap a Survivor who has entered & left a Safe Room.
This Achievement is pretty finicky & even when you fulfill the requirements, it may not unlock for some reason. After many different attempts, this was the only way I was able to do it. For whatever reason, the “standard way” of unlocking this Achievement by having your Friend enter the Safe Room then exit it for you to incap them never got the Achievement for me. Try that method first before trying mine, as it is much quicker to do if it works.

For my strategy you will want to play on No Mercy – Apartments. Have your Friend clear all the way to the Safe Room in the underground, then kill all but one AI Survivor. Next they will head back up the stairs of the underground to the streets again, then head around the corner immediately beside it to find a burning barrel fire. Have them stand in the fire, & they will be incapacitated which will lure out the final AI Survivor from the Safe Room so that you can incap them as they go to revive your Friend. There didn’t seem to be a time limit for how long it had been after they exited the Safe Room either.

The Sacrifice – Infected:

Achievement #52 – Sacrifizzle: As a Special Infected, incap someone who is trying to Sacrifice themselves.
For this Achievement, have your Friend beat all the way through the Campaign until they reach the Port Finale. Get them to start up the Generators, let them kill you when you are the Tank, then have them raise the bridge for the Sacrifice; make sure they have a Pipe Bomb handy. When it is time for the Sacrifice, have them very quickly run down the stairs & carefully drop down to the ground. Have them throw the Pipe Bomb, then run down the alley off their right where you need to be waiting as a Tank. Alternatively, being a Hunter is the next best option though the risk of you being taken out by the AI Survivors is much higher.

Very quickly incapacitate them to unlock this Achievement. It is a race to incapacitate them first as there will be two other AI Tanks that will also be coming straight for them. If they incap your Friend before you do, you will not get the Achievement; it must be you that incaps them.
Sequence 9: Online Versus - Crash Course
1. Campaign: Crash Course
2. Achievements: 61/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash Course – Hunter:

Achievement #53 – Jumpin’ Jack Smash: Pounce a Survivor for 25 points of damage in the Crash Course Campaign.
For this Achievement, you need to deal 25 points of damage to a Survivor purely from your pounce & not by your claws after they are grabbed. To do this, you need to get up somewhere high to inflict more damage; the best spot is actually on top of the warehouse right beside the helicopter spawn zone for the Survivors at the start of the Campaign.

The strategy I used is not my own, & I followed Youtube’s TheDoctorSlytherin’s video guide which works like a charm. It is your call whether or not you want your Friend to kill off any of the other AI Survivors as it will give you more attempts to hone in your aim/pounce.
https://youtu.be/2zwuUNVElsk
Crash Course – Smoker:

Achievement #54 – Slippery Pull: Smoker pull a bile-covered Survivor until you hold him during Crash Course.
This Achievement is a bit tricky to do as you need your Friend to also be playing as the Infected; having a third Friend to play as the Survivors makes the Achievement infinitely easier to do. Regardless, your Friend needs to play as a Boomer & you need to play as the Smoker. Have your Friend puke on a Survivor (or more) & quickly grab them with your Smoker tongue while they are covered in the bile; the Achievement will unlock if they are still covered when you start attacking the Survivor after they are dragged to you.

Crash Course – Tank:

Achievement #55 – Truck Stop: Your team wipes all Survivors after the escape vehicle has opened in Crash Course.
These next three Achievements can be all done at the same time or separately; see them below. Have your Friend beat through the Crash Course Campaign until they reach the Truck Depot Finale. Have them kill you when you are playing as the Tank until the very end after they restart the Generator after it shuts down to finish lowering the escape truck.

After this happens, rush them as the Tank &… incapacitate them all. It is safest to try to keep your Friend alive until the end, as if they die, the AI Survivors might abandon the Campaign & enter the escape vehicle which will ruin your Achievement run.

Achievement #56 – All 4 Dead: Kill all four Survivors on one life as a Tank.
This Achievement ties into the above one, but can be done separately as well. As it states, while playing as a Tank, take out all of the Survivors before they kill you to unlock the Achievement.

Achievement #57 – Wipefest: Your team incapacitates three Survivors within five seconds.
Once again, there is a good chance to unlock this Achievement while you are obtaining the above ones. If you do not, then this can be very easily done while working towards the below Achievement. Simply have your Friend group up all the Survivors near a car, then melee it as the Tank into them all to instantly incapacitate them.

Achievement #58 – 20 Car Pile-Up: As A Tank hit 20 Survivors with a car in the Crash Course Campaign.
This is a cumulative Achievement that you will need to work towards over multiple runs. The quickest way to do this is have your Friend quickly blast through the initial street to the very end where there is a Witch/Tank spawner. If the Witch spawns, Call A Vote & restart the session; keep trying until you get a Tank. In theory, some people say the odds of a Tank spawning are increased if the Survivor team is killing you a lot…

Conveniently at the end of this street or in the area where the Tank spawns, there are plenty of cars around for you to use. If you leave your Friend or an AI Survivor alive to revive the incapacitated Survivors, you can incapacitate them multiple times to make it go faster.

Achievement #59 – Dead Wreckening: Dole out 5000 total Survivor damage as a Special Infected.
This Achievement is not exclusive to the Tank, but of course since they deal the most damage, it is the easiest to do. Realistically though, you should either have this Achievement already unlocked at some point while completing the other Online Versus Achievements or have very little more damage left to deal…

Crash Course – Survivors:

Achievement #60 – Smash Hit: Win a Versus Campaign of Crash Course.
Simple enough, especially when boosting with Friends. Just beat the Campaign as you normally would; you will need to beat your Friend while playing as the Infected as well as the Survivors to unlock the Achievement.

Achievement #61 – Nothing Special: Survive a Campaign with no Survivors taking damage from Special Infected.
This Achievement is actually very easy to earn in Online Versus than trying to earn it in a standard Campaign. Play as the Survivors, & have your Friend play as the Infected. When they spawn as Special Infected, just have them not damage you at all. When they spawn as Tanks, have them let you kill them. It is as simple as that.

One thing to be wary of, apart from Witches which can ruin your attempt depending if/where they spawn, is if your Friend is playing as a Special Infected before they swap to a Tank. If they do, the Special Infected they were playing as will be taken over by the AI & there is a chance you can take damage from them. Have your Friend either let you kill them before they swap to the Tank, or at least tell you exactly where they are so you can quickly take out the AI.

2. Survival Maps – Death Toll: The Floodgate, The Church, The Street, The Boat House

4. Survival Maps – Blood Harvest: The Warehouse, The Bridge, The Farmhouse
5. Achievements: 68/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Across the main four Campaigns, there will be a total of 15 Survival Maps we need to complete. For the Legendary Survivor Achievement, we need to earn a Gold Medal on all of them by surviving for at least 10 minutes; the Crash Course & Sacrifice Survival Maps do not contribute to any Medal related Achievements.

These Achievements are basically impossible to unlock playing Solo unless you employ glitches so you will need at least 2-3 other Players with you to complete these.

The Infinite Special Infected “Kick” Mod: Since there is no Steam Workshop content available for this game, we need to use outside sources to Mod it. This can be sketchy & overwhelming if you are not used to it. Fortunately, we do have a tried & true Mod that can help you if you are having trouble with the Survival & Expert Campaign Achievement made by Jacobisus of Game Maps. This Mod is safe to download, & I have tested this all out personally; it also will not affect your ability to unlock Achievements.

https://www.gamemaps.com/details/21786

After the Mod is downloaded, it will come with two Files; one is a VPK File & is where our script is attached. Now go into your Computer, Steamapps-Common-Left4Dead then enter into the Folder within also labeled Left4dead to find the Addons Folder. In the Addon Folder itself, there will be a Readme Text File stating that all VPK Files you want to add to the game need to go in this Folder. Do just that, Copy/Paste the infinite_kick_script_l4d1_jacob_version.vpk File into the Addons Folder.

When you start the game now, go into the Extras-Addons tab of the Main Menu, & you should now see our new Mod listed in it; if it does not appear, then something went wrong & you moved the VPK File into the wrong Folder. In the game Options now, be sure to turn on Developer Console; you can now bring it up in game with the ~ button.

There are a few things that have to be for us to use our new script: we need to be in a game (Campaign, Survival, etc.), & we also need to be playing on a Local Server. If you are playing Single Player, this happens automatically unless you are doing Survival. If you want to play with Friends or Survival, you must set it to a Local Server, not Best Dedicated or Steam Server.

In game now, after you have loaded into a Chapter, activate the Developer Console & now type in this command, no brackets: exec kickloop_readme

This will load in the Mod to your current game & effect all the “rules” it operates under. Now whenever you press the V button on your Keyboard, all Special Infected (including Tanks) will be deleted from the game. This is not permanent, & you will need to press V to continue to delete them, but it is instantaneous. Anytime a Tank or Special Infected arrives, press V to remove them. This trivializes Survival to the point of unfairness… but it is a legit strategy, & will still earn you the Achievements. This Mod can also be used during standard Campaigns & can make beating them on Expert Difficulty much easier to accomplish.

The Last Stand:
Survival Map – The Lighthouse:

Achievement #62 – Last Stand: Complete one Round of Survival on The Last Stand.
This Achievement is very simple & was added into the game after the release of The Last Stand DLC update. All you have to do is play a game of Survival on this Map; you shouldn’t need to earn a Medal on it or achieve a certain time.

No Mercy:
Survival Map #1 – The Generator Room:

Achievement #63 – Bronze Mettle: Earn a Bronze Medal in Survival mode on any official level.
Survive for at least 4:00 minutes on any Survival Map to unlock this Achievement.

Achievement #64 – Silver Bullets: Earn a Silver Medal in Survival mode on any official level.
Survive for at least 7:00 minutes on any Survival Map to unlock this Achievement.

Achievement #65 – Violence Is Golden: Earn a Gold Medal in Survival mode on any official level.
Survive for at least 10:00 minutes on any Survival Map to unlock this Achievement.

If you are using the Mod to boot the Special Infected/Tanks, surviving 10:00 minutes, even on Solo, is pretty simple to do if you are standing close to the Ammo Piles for quick re-fills. There is not much strategy involved.

If you want to do this naturally, you will need at least 3-4 Friends as the Survivor AI makes way too many mistakes & are not adequate to keep you or themselves alive when the Tanks begin spawning. There is no info for Tank spawns for Left 4 Dead 1’s Survival, but for Left 4 Dead 2 Survival, Tanks spawn at: 0:40, 1:55, 2:55, 4:25, 5:25, 5:35, 7:05, 7:45, 8:25, & 10:05.

Sequence 11: 100 Days Later...
1. Crash Course, No Mercy
2. Achievements: 73/73
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, all that is left for us to now is to grind out our final few Achievements. We are in the home stretch!

Any Campaign:

Achievement #69 – Helping Hand: Revive 50 incapacitated Survivors.
If you have made it to the end of our 100% & still do not have this Achievement, it can be easily farmed through two good methods. For Solo, play a game on Expert & just incapacitate the AI Survivors & revive them until the Achievement unlocks.

For playing with a Friend, play on the Dead Air – The Greenhouse Chapter & have them keep walking off of the rooftop to have them slip & hold onto the ledge where you can keep saving them.

Crash Course:

Achievement #70 – The Littlest Genocide: Kill 5,359 Infected in the Crash Course Campaign.
For our final three Achievements… we are just going to kill. Kill as many Infected as we possibly can. Only kills done by you & not Friends or the AI count towards this Achievement (for yourself). We can farm kills in any game mode: Campaign, Online Versus, & Survival. Always shoot Car Alarms & even let Boomers vomit on you to draw in more Infected.

You can average around 300-500 kills per Campaign, so potentially having to replay it ~10-18 times depending on how many you have killed prior.

Any Campaign:

Achievement #71 – Red Mist: Kill 1000 Infected with a Mounted Machine Gun.
For this Achievement, choose any Campaign Finale such as No Mercy – Rooftop Finale, Dead Air – Runway Finale or the Crash Course – The Alleys Chapter to find good opportunities to use the Mounted Machine Gun. Crash Course is less ideal as you have to make it quite a ways into the Chapter to reach the Mounted Machine Gun.

By this point, if it has not already unlocked, jut replay your preferred Chapter to grind out this Achievement.

No Mercy – Rooftop Finale:

Achievement #72 – Zombie Genocidest: Kill 53,595 Infected.
Do not farm this Achievement until all others have been unlocked. By this point in the game, I had only killed around 24,000 Infected & still needed more than double the kills. Fortunately, we can farm the final kills we need extremely easy…

Load up the No Mercy – Rooftop Finale Chapter on Expert kill the AI Survivors, then Call A Vote to turn the Difficulty down to Easy. Once this done, grab a Pipe Bomb & run up the stairs, throw it to clear out the Common Infected, then wait in the hall until a Boomer appears. If a Hunter or Smoker appears instead, kill them. Once a Boomer appears, lead them back down the stairs to the starting Safe Room, then close the door. Get the Boomer to puke on you through the door, then stand a few steps back from it & begin meleeing. The Boomer will summon Infected, & by us meleeing them through the door, they will die. This is the strategy. Once you have the distance down that you can hit the Infected without taking damage, place a rubber band of your controller’s Lt to perpetually begin meleeing… then walkaway. Note that if you are using a wireless controller, make sure you plug it in as the game will pause if the controller dies… wasting your time.

The Boomer should stay on the stairs & keep vomiting on you, summoning 15-25 Common Infected in a go, & you should melee them all to death. Try to check in every so often in case the Boomer decided to run up & get melee’d to death. If this happens, you need to return up the stairs to draw a new one in. You do not need to go on to complete the Campaign either for your kills to count; simply quit to the Main Menu & they will log for the Achievement. To be safe, you can always quit the game every 2-3 hours to make sure you do not accidentally lose any progress if something happens with your game.

With only 24,000 kills prior & getting approximately 2000 kills an hour, it took me around 11 hours of leaving my game on to farm the 29,000 for the Achievement. Once I knew the Boomer was safe in the setup after checking in on it a few times, I just let it run all night…

Achievement #73 – Outbreak: Catch a rare strain of infection, then pass it on to someone else.
This Achievement may be very hard to earn or extremely easy. I have no idea how the Achievement began (who were the first Players to earn it Achievement) but all you need to do is play in an Online game with anyone who already has it, which will in turn unlock it for you. Most Players are very accommodating I found & it was pretty easy to set a game up with someone that had the Achievement.

Feel free to ask for or give help for this Achievement in the Comments Section below…
Conclusion:
Left 4 dead is an absolute classic game, & potentially one of Valve’s best. Though the bulk of the Achievements can be earned playing by yourself, this game is much more fun when playing with Friends! Remarkably, 100% only took me around 20 hours to do from start to finish, though I boosted all the Online Achievements with a Friend; if you opt to earn them naturally, it can add on a lot more time.

Jolly Cooperation: If you need help boosting any Online Achievements in the game, feel free to ask for assistance in the Comments Section of the guide; this is especially for the Outbreak Achievement. Alternatively, if you are a legend of yore & already have this Achievement unlocked… if you are willing to assist people in earning this Achievement it would be much appreciated.

If this guide helped you achieve 100%, rate the guide or let me know in the comments. Helps me know if I am doing things right!
