Intro
This guide contains a list of quality of life improvement mods.
It's divided into different sections for your convenience.
Before installing mods, check each Nexus mods page for requirements, but if you install everything from the Required list - you should be able to install and enjoy all the mods on this list.
All mods are alphabetically sorted, so don't look for any hidden meaning in their order 😅

Be sure to modify the Plugins.txt file by adding the mod name in it if you are adding ESP files manually, as some of the mods tend to forget that you have to do this in their installation instructions.
Required Stuff
  1. Oblivion Remastered Script Extender (OBSE64)[www.nexusmods.com]
    Required for some mods.
Be aware that in order for mods requiring OBSE to work, you will have to launch the game using the obse64_loader.exe file (you can add a shortcut to your desktop). Don't worry though, Steam will still detect that you are playing Oblivion and will track your achievement progress, sync saves to the cloud, etc. (as long as Steam is launched before starting the game).
  2. UE4SS for OblivionRemastered[www.nexusmods.com]
    Required for some mods
  3. Game Settings Loader[www.nexusmods.com]
    Required for some mods
  4. NL-Tag Remover[www.nexusmods.com]
Not required by any mod, so to speak, but removes the annoying [NL] labels from item names for all the new items added by mods or items where a name was modified by a mod.
Gameplay
  1. Ascension Remastered - Vanilla-Plus Loot and Balance[www.nexusmods.com]
I'm using just the Ascension Lite file of this mod. In vanilla game, once you reach a certain level - all bandits are wearing glass or daedric armor. This mod fixes it. With it - you will still be able to meet bandits in fur armor, just as they used to occur in your lower levels.
  2. Auto Upgrade Leveled Items[www.nexusmods.com]
For those of you who are unaware - there are certain named loot, characteristics of which are tied to your level by the moment you acquire it. Meaning that the same sword acquired on level 5 and level 30 will be different (the first one will be weaker). This mod scans your inventory and updates the version of such loot to your current level version.
  3. Balanced NPC Level Cap - Remastered[www.nexusmods.com]
Similar to the loot issue - there is a mobs issue in the game. Once you reach a certain level - all the mobs you see are deadra and daedric spiders. This mod adds a little balance to the issue. With it, if your level is high enough, instead of seeing one daedroth - you could meet 3 rats for example.
  4. Bandits Have Helmets Remastered[www.nexusmods.com]
A small mod that adds helmets to the bandits you meet on the road. It makes no sense that they are not wearing any.
  5. Bow Headshot UE4SS (fix 1x sneak damage WIP)[www.nexusmods.com]
A fix for stealthy artchers. Adds a proper multiplier for sneak attacks and headshots, so it makes sense to aim for headshots while being sneaky.
  6. Difficulty Slider Fixed[www.nexusmods.com]
A fix for a ridiculous difficulty slider where one option makes the game unplayable and the other makes you a living god. I prefer the v.3 file, but chose any for your liking.
  7. Enemy's Weapon Stays on Corpse[www.nexusmods.com]
Weapons that enemies use tend to fly off into oblivion when the enemy dies. This mod sticks the weapon to the enemy and keeps it as an equipped item when looting the body.
  8. Main Ingredient sells Master Alchemy Apparatus[www.nexusmods.com]
Might be a little cheaty, but in my 140 hours of gameplay I've only collected 2 out of 4 Master level apparatus. This mod adds single copy of each into the shop. So whenever you feel like it's time to get yourself a proper gear - go ahead and buy it.
  9. Precise Soul Gem Capture OBSE - ASI[www.nexusmods.com]
If you've ever bothered with collecting soul gems to recharge your weapons - you know how annoying it is to waste a Grand soul gem on a Petty soul. This mod makes it, so that the soul gem can only be filled with an equal soul. No more wasting soul gems!
  10. Realistic Arrow Speeds for Bows (Faster)[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes arrows fly faster in a straighter line. Makes fighting bandits equipped with bows a little bit more interesting and makes wielding bow a more satisfying experience (especially combined with the headshot mod).
UI
  1. A More Complete World Map 8K - 4K[www.nexusmods.com]
Replaces the default low-resolution map with a high-resolution one. Different color scheme versions available.
  2. Better Map Menu[www.nexusmods.com]
Decreases the size of the UI on map so that it's not covering the map so much anymore. Vanilla UI looks so big, as if it were made for mobile devices.
  3. Kwa Stacking Notifications UE4SS[www.nexusmods.com]
Stacks notifications in the upper left corner in a list, instead of showing it to you one by one, so you no longer have to wait half an hour to see all the notifications.
  4. Map Icon Completion Markers[www.nexusmods.com]
Ever stumbled upon a cave and thought to yourself "My bags are filled but I would like to visit this cave some time later?". With this mod you will be able to mark locations as visited. Simply check a location once you've cleared it so that later you'll know which location you haven't cleared yet.
  5. Menu Recolor[www.nexusmods.com]
Exploring dark caves and opening a map can be a pain for your eyes (especially when playing late) as the vanilla color of the UI is very bright. Almost white. This mod makes all the UI overlays dimmer, almost brown, so that it's easier for your eyes to jump back and forth from a dark cave to your map or inventory.
  6. Open Local Map Key plus Toggle[www.nexusmods.com]
One of the weirder UI design decisions that happened in the remake - is to open a local map by zooming in on the global map to maximum. This is very annoying as each time you open a map it is zoomed out and you have to continuously scroll just to see the cave layout. This mod adds a bind to toggle between local and global map by pressing the N key. Additionally it can open a local map without opening the global map by pressing the same key.
  7. Press Space To Confirm (Enter Rebind)[www.nexusmods.com]
Another weird UI decision, that I believe came from controller compatibility, is confirming modal windows with Enter key (which is very dissatisfying since your hands are usually at WASD and mouse and you don't have a third hand to hold it over Enter). This mod allows pressing Space key to confirm modal windows.
Graphics
  1. Enhanced Light Radius (View Distance)[www.nexusmods.com]
Increases the radius of all light sources. May reduce performance by 1-2 FPS but makes the image at night generally way more pleasant to look.
  2. Fix Persistent Character Glow[www.nexusmods.com]
Sometimes having an active spell or an enchanted object and loading a save game or changing a location leaves your character with an annoying glow. This mod fixes this issue.
  3. Shadows Reworked (with fog reduction)[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes the overall image and especially shadows have more depth to it. Looks especially good at night and in caves. Makes light and shadow feel more realistic and justifies using torches or candlelight spells.
  4. Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - More Performance - Lower Latency - Better Clarity - Lossless)[www.nexusmods.com]
Tweaks Unreal Engine settings for a better, more stable performance. There are alternative mods out there, but this one did a decent job for me so I haven't compared it to the others.
Also, you might want to install it manually, if you are using mod installers, as I'm not sure if mod installers know what to do with Engine.ini file.
For Fun
  1. Dramatic Death[www.nexusmods.com]
Turns on a slow motion mode for a second after an enemy is killed. Makes killing enemies (especially in close combat) feel more dramatic (not like dummies just falling over) and helps prevent accidentally attacking friendly NPC after killing an enemy. Can be adjusted.
  2. Hide Helmet Toggle[www.nexusmods.com]
Binds G key to hide/display a helmet (or any other head wear). Good for roleplaying, making screenshots or if you just prefer seeing your character’s face instead of helmet.
  3. Hide Sheathed Weapons[www.nexusmods.com]
Hides currently equipped weapon / shield / arrows if you are not in the fighting stance. Purely cosmetical mod, similar to the helmet hiding mod for those of you who like to play sneaky and don't like putting on and taking off weapons and arrows to have a nicer look.
  4. Hide UI - UE4SS[www.nexusmods.com]
Must-have mod if you like to make nice screenshots. Just press the Delete key to hide the UI and you are good to go to make some screenshots.
  5. Off-Hand Weapons[www.nexusmods.com]
For those of you who like to play sneaky but prefer close combat. Adds a parrying dagger for your left hand that serves as a shield.
  6. Spell Tomes Drop From Conjurers[www.nexusmods.com]
Spell tomes can now also be found as drops from conjurers (which makes sense) and not only from loot chests.
Other
Some of these mods might feel a little cheat-y so consider this block optional.
  1. Essential Quest NPCs[www.nexusmods.com]
Everybody hates companion quests. What can be worse than companion quests? Companion quests where your companion can die because they and their gear do not level up according to the enemies in the world. Well not anymore. This mod marks most of the NPCs involved in quests as essential for the duration of those quests, so that they won't get accidentally killed.
  2. Skill Book Indicator for Oblivion Remastered[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds a "[Skill]" tag to the names of all the books that give you skill points upon reading.
Just so that it's easier to identify books worth buying / reading.
  3. Universal Achievement Unblocker[www.nexusmods.com]
Allows using console commands without blocking achievement progress. Good to have when you want to remove those nasty items that are stuck in your inventory because they weren't marked as non-essential after completing a quest.
  4. Unofficial Oblivion Remastered Patch - UORP[www.nexusmods.com]
A mod that fixes a lot of small issues like missing keys, incorrect labels and stuff. You can find a full change log in the description of the mod. Haven't tested it myself though, since when it came out I have completed most of the game, so I did not see too much sense in installing it.
  5. Unread Books Glow[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds a purple glow to unread books. Good to have instead of making a list of books you've already read but is a little bit cheat-y since you will immediately see all the unread books as soon as you enter the room.
  6. Weightless Arrows[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes arrows weigh 0. For those of you who like to stockpile arrows "just in case I run out of my better ones".
Conclusion
All the mods in this list were tested and are compatible with each other (except for UORP, which I haven't personally installed, but it should work as well).
Feel free to drop any comments if you have some other good mods you think should be added.

Don't forget to rate this guide if it was helpful to you.

Hey, Hybris.
Your suggestion is an alternative to item 6 (Open Local Map Key plus Toggle) in the UI section.
The reason why I chose the key binder mod instead of your suggestion is because the key binder option allows you to open both local and global maps by pressing either the N or M key respectively, which basically means that you have more control over the map. In addition - you can quickly switch between maps by pressing N when map is already opened, so you don't have to zoom in once you're on the global map.
But I guess it's a matter of taste.
Nevertheless, these two mods will probably conflict between each other, so I don't think I should list both in the guide.
But still thank you for the suggestion.

Auto Local Map - Smarter Map Opening
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/1119

I'm trying to finish the game completely stock but this one QoL mod is temping me something fierce. It fixes you having to open the map and then zoom in to the local level map to see where you need to go next.
