How to
If you like me currently use the .msi installed version of Blender and wanted the Steam version to launch when double clicking the .blend files, then look not further.

Here are the steps:

1. Library -> Software
2. Right Click "Blender" -> Properties -> Set Launch Options
3. Add "-R" without quotes
4. Hit OK
5. Launch Blender
6. You should see a command prompt window and a message saying "File extension registered for the current user. To register for all users, run as an administrator."
7. Hit OK
8. Right Click "Blender" -> Properties -> Set Launch Options
9. Remove "-R"
10. Double click any .blend file and it should open with the Steam Blender version

Be aware that Steam doesn't seem to detect Blender as running if you launch it by double clicking a .blend file or from a shortcut that directly points to blender.exe for that matter.

Hope this helps, happy blendering!

It was necessary to use "-r" instead of "-R", but this guide still works with ver 3.6.8.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot! I was switching to Steam's version of Blender because I wanted to update it without completely reinstalling it and this guide helped me make that switch. Super simple and straightforward! Keep up the great work!

Thanks. :KneelingBow:
Unity now properly recognizes the Blender installation and thus imports the .blend files correctly.
