How to treat your medic to become MVP
Av Josh Grape
This in-depth guide will show you how to treat your medic right, so that you and your medic become MVPs of the match! It will cover the annoyances of what Medics have to deal with and how to prevent them, how to maximise the medic's potential to become super powerful and even show you how to become MVP with a medic at your side.

1) Know what Medi-gun they are using
This may be an obvious one, but the amount of times I'v seen a soldier I was healing rocket off and then for him to say "I thought you were using a quickfix". It's annoying and an easy one to fix. Once know what Medi-gun he is utilizing, adapt your play-style to optimize his medi-gun and get the best results.

  • Default Medi-gun: Be slow, let the uber build. Don't run off without him and maximise the overheal with long shootouts without cover, then when you're low on health, jump back into cover.

  • Quick-fix: Be free to be quick, rocket jump around or just speed off with scout. A skilled medic will be able to keep up and be with you on the front-lines in a snap. His limited overheal will mean you won't be able to keep out of cover for long, but his sped up healing will mean you can easily jump in and out of cover quickly to maximise damage output.

  • Vaccinator: Try and aim yourself at certain ammunition types so he can build up the resist button and get the best defensive buff. So if faced against Heavys or Soldiers try and aim yourself at a certain class.

  • The Kritzkrieg: You're not going to be immortal, or a bullet soaker with this one, but if you keep an eye on the uber and time it right. The Crits can be match changer, just try and keep under cover when using the uber because again, you're not immortal while under it's uber effects.
2) Know where the medic is on the battlefield
A good player would position himself so he has a good vantage point to deal out damage, but has a corner or cover for his assisting medic. The amount of times I've been healing a player and they drag me right into the middle of it, where I just get blasted into oblivion is just too common I've started ignoring players decisions to go into the frontlines, it's probably costed them the match or MVP. The only suitable time to do it is when the medic has a full uber, that's when you can go all gung-ho and whatnot, but don't over-do it so when the uber runs out, you're stranded right in the middle of the field and you get picked off by a local sentry.

Also keep an eye out for spies, a good spy will have a medic's death as their main goal. Eliminating a medic means that the opposing team will easily be able to over-come the person being healed, meaning they can reach the control point or grab the brief case, losing the game.

3) Ubers
Urgh, don't get me started on this one. Everyone seems to be intellectually inept when it comes to ubers. It's way to often I'v had an uber ready, screaming 'Ubercharge Ready' and jumping at the front lines like an excited little terrior jumps at the door when it hears the postman for the person to run out, me activate the uber, shoot one bullet/rocket then him just run back into cover and hide like a p*ssy, wasting a perfectly good uber... The medic spent ages charging that, and it could have easily been used to destroy the sentry placed by the control point, preventing anyone reaching it. Costing us the match!

This one can be easily fixed by keeping an eye on the uber rate by the bottom of the screen, and judging by how the medic is behaving (IE, is he jumping to get to the front lines, hiding behind cover, shouting ubercharge ready)

4) Know the medics limits
Knowing the medics limits, like how much damage he can take, how long it takes to self heal, uber-charge rate and other things like that will vastly help you and improve gameplay. If you want to jump from one spot of cover to the next, will he have enough health to deal with the incoming fire or has he healed enough from the last one. Stuff like that can cost or save a medics life.

Another part of understanding his limits is knowing his loadout, is he a defensive or offensive medic? Does he have attack over health or vice versa, knowing this can greatly improve the medic's capabilities and keep him alive for longer.

5) Be one with the medic

Knowing how your medic plays, how he reacts to situations and his general gameplay styles and vice versa can make you an unbelievably godly pair, being in sync and knowing what each other will do is invaluable and makes you an immortal team of death. Teaming with a friend can be a great idea to put this to the test. But if you know when each other is getting behind cover without even speaking will make a great team. But if you're just the casual player, throughout the match keep an eye on what the medic does and how he peforms so you can get a sense of what he'll do when the ♥♥♥♥ gets going.
6) Have fun
There's no point having to cover every rule on here if it means you can't have fun, but keep an eye you do some of them so that the medic will appreciate you more as a player, and is more likely to pick you to heal when the going gets tough. With enthusiasm and trust, you will own the battlefield and gladly own the title of MVP at the end.

I hope you enjoyed the guide, I get really annoyed how people treat medics and hope with this guide, I can change that for the better and create a more fun TF2 experience for everyone.
