PURCHASING GUIDE - Call of Duty: Black Ops III
Av AquaeAtrae
For whatever reason, Call of Duty fans are far more frugal with their money than they are their time and energy. We've been known to waste hundreds of hours waiting for lobbies and playing modes we hate hoping to justify that $100 we spent last fall. But really, our time and morale is the real expense!

This guide offers some tips for ordering the next Call of Duty, playing its FREE Beta (this week), and ultimately keeping the PC CoD community together despite Activision's DLC divisions and misleading marketing.

The TM8 group will also be hosting open discussions covering both HYPE AND GRIPES as we test the Beta and work through any bugs together.

NOTE: This is a mirror of the same guide posted under the Black Ops II - Campaign Community Hubs. Thankfully, Black Ops III will have one executable, a unified menu for all modes, and hopefully one Community Hub (that the developer's actually support).

PRE-ORDER ...OR DON'T
It's up to you. They're not going to run out of licenses and the base price won't be changing ... at least not until most of us have moved on to the next big game.

Some may buy Call of Duty just for Campaign or Zombies [1 to 4 players]. But most come back to it for its multiplayer experience. So you should always be aware of the playerbase if interested in multiplayer.

SEASON PASS, NOW ...OR LATER
There's no reason to pre-order Season Pass aside from maybe some microDLC outfit. Many who did with AW regretted it [including myself, who started the TM8 groups as a result]. Season Pass will always cost slightly less than buying the DLC individually.
<< IMPORTANT >> AVOID BUYING SEPARATE DLC MAPS!
When it comes to DLC, always go "all or nothing".

The game will be quickly be unplayable for those who install some, but not all DLC. They will always be forced to uninstall it (or buy the next DLC) to find others!

The game's hidden DLC divisions wouldn't be so bad if the PC Community represented more than just 3% of the Call of Duty market. We have far fewer players and the DLC marketing system is designed around consoles. Each new DLC will divide our 3% playerbase into smaller and smaller slices while the console community barely notices this.

Understand, dividing these communities by DLC is a very intentional marketing practice. It forces those without maps to buy them just to stay connected with friends. To counter this, it's best we accept that half of our small community will never buy any DLC while the other half will have all (Season Pass). Those with it can always join those without so the base maps and modes will generally be the most played.

FINDING GOOD GAMES
Whether the game proves to be as strong as Black Ops 2 or dies quickly like Advanced Warfare, well organized groups can help us all find the games we're looking for. Because of these, we still play many hours of Ground War, Grapple, and on the latest maps every week.

The key is to PLAN GAMES and KEEP CHAT ROOMS OPEN to gather whenever you want to play.

I had a lot of fun with this beta (and raged a lot, all those discenection, crappy optimisation, wierd frend systeme, etc... (throught, the friend systeme is the same in bo2, I'm just not used to it)), but I keep asking myself :

The game is 60$, is it worth it ? And more, is it worth it for some one who buyed bo2 like 20 bucks and play it almost every day since 2012 chrystmas ? If I het it, won't I just play it like 3 mounth and go back to bo2 after a while ? Because it's exactly what I did with css and cs cz, I buyed it when it wasn't cheap, played two mounth, and got back to cs cz, same with go, I'm on go only since the competitive update, with all the ranks (it was like, 2 years ago, whene the game was out there is like 4 to 5 years from now).

Beta on xbox is working fine, but lag happens alot. But when there is no lag I am in love, even tho I am terrible on xbox since I am a pc gamer. But one thing I noticed, it keeps setting my settings to default. I checked the option to mute all players yet it still keeps unmuting them, and its annoying cuz i dont wear a headset and my family and stuff here a loud whining baby and they be like WHO DAT

You bet. DLC can be fun and worthwhile, but because it secretly divides our tiny community we have to be very careful with it.

With the Advanced Warfare TM8 group, we actually schedule DLC games in mid-week blocks. That those who remove it to connect with others only need to re-download the DLC once a week.

I can't run this game because of my pc requirements but one day I hope to get a better pc and play. I like the idea of staying with the player base maps. I always wondered playing Black Ops 2 if the original player base (non dlc) is greater than those who have purchased the seasonal passes for extra maps etc. Thanks for more or less clearing up that misunderstanding.
