Are you wondering what is the best way to get to level 50 fast? And don't really know what is the most efficient way?
Are you, like me playing the game and, think "man this takes ages to level up my character".
I tested around some game modes and different levels and kept record fn the ammount of EXP I got for my character. In the following Guide I will present to you, what I have found out this far.
What do you need?
In order to do this efficiently you should have a character which is about Lvl 30 or higher.
I used a Squire because it simply was the first Character I created, but I think you can also to this with an Apprentice or even a Monk.

Your character should be skilled into Defences.

I personally use my Lvl 50 Squire to build defences and then switch to other Characters I want to level up.

If you want to get the most EXP out of it you can equip 2 medium spheres, that will grant you +20% EXP each, but you can use them first when you are Lvl 30 (You can equip 1 sphere from lvl 20 onward)

What do you do?
I recommend to do this on your own, so you don't have anyone you have to wait for. But of course you can do this together with your friends. No one likes playing alone I guess.
Doing this together with someone will not give you more EXP, but it will neither give you less.

BUT, what I'm not sure about is, when you have multiple people with EXP bonus, or +20% EXP sphere, it could be possible that youll get more, because there is a bug, that will grant this bonuses to all players in one group, instead of just the one who equipped the spheres/ has the bonus EXP

You simply play the Game on Free Play Hard to get the most EXP out of it, but if this is to hard for you, you could of course do this on normal or even easy.

In my case, with my decently equipped Squire I can easily do this while I am AFK.

-Step 1
Take out your builder Character, load the Map you want (I will come to that later on)

-Step 2
Build up your defences. There is no right or wrong, just try out what works for you.
Most of the time I build 3 Harpoon turrets on each way, 3 Cannonball turrets in front of them and when I still have space for more I build a Blockade in front of that. Don't worry about Gate controls or other things on the map, that open new gates for enemys if they are destroyed. Just build the Defences closely to the Cristals and you'll be fine.

-Step 3
Switch to the Character you want to level up and start the first wave.

-Step 4 (Optional)
Run arround, deal damage with your Character, pick up items and repair/upgrade the defences.

If your defences, on lvl 1 can last through all 7 waves without getting too much damage you can do this while you are AFK, all you need is a makro that spams "G" to always start the next wave.

-Step 5
After the 7th round you'll get the chest with some loot and your done.

-Step 6
Repeat

-Step 7
Profit!
Which map do you play?
I've tested some of the maps, not all this far, but here is what I found out.

First of all: Higher difficulty means more EXP, so you should do this on free play hard, like I said earlier.
Don't do Incursions, Onslaughts or Endgame mode, these will not give you nearly that much EXP and usually are way harder to do!

- The first map "The Gates Of Dragonfall" will give you 174.000 EXP in about 14 minutes.
~ 12.400EXP/min

- The second map "Dragonfall Bazzar" gives you about 182.000 EXP in about 15 minutes.
~ 11.375EXP/min

- The seventh map "Littlehorn Valley" gives you 188.000 EXP in 18 minutes.
~ 10.444EXP/min

- The tenth map "The Throne Room" gives you !only! 137.000 EXP in 18 minutes.
~ 7.600EXP/min

- The second last map "Liferoot Forest" wll give you about 156.000 EXP in 15 minutes.
~ 10.400EXP/min

The amount of EXP that you get have changed!
I have not tested other maps this far.

I recomend you do the map "Little Horn Valley" even though it grants a little bit less EXP per minute than "The Gates of Dragonfall". But you don't have to restart all of it that fast, and you save time loading the map and setting up the defences. I also found out that "Little Horn Valley" has a pretty decent chance of spawning "Skeleton Special Enemies" needed for the Monthly Quest of October '15.

Keep in mind the thest were done without the bonus EXP you get for winning 5 different maps each day and with 2 +20% EXP spheres equipped, so your results could potentially be different.

Closing Word
Thank you for reading my little Guide. I hope it helped you.

Please feel free to comment.

From experience. I actually think that the gatecontrols gives the player an objective exp on its own when completing a map and therefore you should try to keep it safe just for that little extra exp. <had a friend test this for me in throne room and he confirmed that he also got more exp when saving the gatecontrols>

Add to the guide that if you play with other players, you get an xp multiplier.

Nice guide, a few things to add maybe;) :
Level 50 characters of other players do indeed increase your xp as well- if they are actively used during the wave they apply a bonus as if they where part of your deck. Thats how you team-power level your mates toons.

Fullfill all the achievements with your training toon. To do so you could for example add a low level monk-AA to your high class build to give that monk the clear skies achievement. Or other turrets of other toons somewhere in between.

If you happen to be able to join a high onslaught (15+)- this is actually insanely high xp then. The moment those hard mode monsters become NM1 kind of monsters but with the hard mode xp calculation- thats speed. If you are up for a long session anyways, onslaught is indeed an option. Besides the higher waves may also grant you special stuff like wyvern tokens.

Your exp / minute is inaccurate, please delete it. I did the number crunching myself just to prove a point because my friend wouldn't believe me that throne room is MUCH faster than gates of dragonfall.
Here's my data for your fastest exp/min map and the most popular powerleveling map:
Throne Room - 295k exp earned in 11 minutes NOT CALCULATING BUILD TIME = 26.8k/min
With build time included (54 seconds for me, but let's be nice and say it's a minute) - 24.5k/min
Gates of Dragonfall - 215.8k exp earned in 10 minutes 30 seconds not counting build time (takes me 40 seconds to set everything up) = 20.5k/min
So without the build time, Gates of Dragonfall's exp gain / minute is still worse than Throne Room by far
I did this with 145% exp gain and no daily exp bonuses, I also made sure I spawn killed everything by placing flamethrower towers so there's no inconsistency in my results.

For XP maximization: @lvl12 xp-sphere I, @lvl20 xp-sphere II and @lvl30 a 2nd xp-sphere II
*T!gRa 4 Nov, 2015 @ 12:33pm
Got 208.250 exp from Gates Hard (13m36s) and 196.050 form Incursion Hard (17m07s) after i've leveled 3rd toon to 50.

So here's 2 conclusions:
1. The only bonuses that count towards displayed experience number at the end of the map are from Spheres and from max leveled characters within the hero deck (max increase is 145%).
Daily bonus experience granted instantly upon map completion as if you completed the quest.

2. Math and conclusions behind this guide is correct but all the numbers include 110% bonus.

Also:
Experience from waves is insignificant in comparison to the map completion reward.
Consider that mob count in each wave depends on a "bucket" you play in (1-2 players or 3-4; there's a proof from TE in FAQ thread), so it's easier to hit max efficiency plank on your own than in the group with random players.
On the other hand playing with others will not drastically slow you down so don't overburn yourself and have fun :)
