From experience. I actually think that the gatecontrols gives the player an objective exp on its own when completing a map and therefore you should try to keep it safe just for that little extra exp. <had a friend test this for me in throne room and he confirmed that he also got more exp when saving the gatecontrols>
Level 50 characters of other players do indeed increase your xp as well- if they are actively used during the wave they apply a bonus as if they where part of your deck. Thats how you team-power level your mates toons.
Fullfill all the achievements with your training toon. To do so you could for example add a low level monk-AA to your high class build to give that monk the clear skies achievement. Or other turrets of other toons somewhere in between.
If you happen to be able to join a high onslaught (15+)- this is actually insanely high xp then. The moment those hard mode monsters become NM1 kind of monsters but with the hard mode xp calculation- thats speed. If you are up for a long session anyways, onslaught is indeed an option. Besides the higher waves may also grant you special stuff like wyvern tokens.
Here's my data for your fastest exp/min map and the most popular powerleveling map:
Throne Room - 295k exp earned in 11 minutes NOT CALCULATING BUILD TIME = 26.8k/min
With build time included (54 seconds for me, but let's be nice and say it's a minute) - 24.5k/min
Gates of Dragonfall - 215.8k exp earned in 10 minutes 30 seconds not counting build time (takes me 40 seconds to set everything up) = 20.5k/min
So without the build time, Gates of Dragonfall's exp gain / minute is still worse than Throne Room by far
I did this with 145% exp gain and no daily exp bonuses, I also made sure I spawn killed everything by placing flamethrower towers so there's no inconsistency in my results.
So here's 2 conclusions:
1. The only bonuses that count towards displayed experience number at the end of the map are from Spheres and from max leveled characters within the hero deck (max increase is 145%).
Daily bonus experience granted instantly upon map completion as if you completed the quest.
2. Math and conclusions behind this guide is correct but all the numbers include 110% bonus.
Also:
Experience from waves is insignificant in comparison to the map completion reward.
Consider that mob count in each wave depends on a "bucket" you play in (1-2 players or 3-4; there's a proof from TE in FAQ thread), so it's easier to hit max efficiency plank on your own than in the group with random players.
On the other hand playing with others will not drastically slow you down so don't overburn yourself and have fun :)
