How to get CS:S Texture Legally (With Pictures!)

Introduction

I'm going to keep this short. The method I am going to show you is provided free, directly from Valve, and from what I understand is totally legal. That means there should be nothing to worry about by getting the content this way. This way only works on Windows because of some of the programs you will be using.

Tools You Will Need

SteamCMD - https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd.zip

You can install GCFScape like any other program. Throw SteamCMD into a folder named "steamcmd" for now. You can place it anywhere but the Desktop is probably the easiest spot. You can delete both prgrams when you are through with this guide.

Getting the Content

The way we get the CS:S content is by downloading a CS:S dedicated server, which is 100% free. To do this run steamcmd.exe and wait for it to launch, then type this series of commands.

You should start seeing that it is downloading something. Also, the steamcmd folder you made should be filled with junk.

Setting up the Content

Once it is done downloading go inside of your steamcmd folder and then navigate to "\common\Counter-Strike Source Dedicated Server\cstrike".

In there you should see a file named "cstrike_pak_dir.vpk". Open this file with GCFScape.

Leave GCFScape open as you navigate to your Garry's Mod addons folder. Your Gmod addons folder should be somewhere like "C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons/". Create a folder in there named "css_content".

Now from GCFScape highlight the maps, materials, models, particles, resource, and sound folders. Then right-click and click "extract". Find the css_content folder in the browser window and press ok.

Congrats! You're done, Now enjoy your textures.

Disclaimer: Although realistically there is nothing wrong with what you are doing I still want to say that I am not responsible for anything that may (probably not) happen by following this guide.

Besides, Counter-Strike: Source is a great game and having it set up with Garry's Mod legitimately is the easiest way to get the textures.
