Even though I have purchased G2 on Steam (and maybe 4x retail) and I'm writing this guide on Steam, I would personally recommend to use the GoG version. I can't explain why but the GoG version always been smoother for me - less stutter, no savegame corruption problem, memory exception bug etc.
Basics
If you have Gothic 2 Gold Edition from Steam or any other edition and you want to it to work seamlessly on Win 7 or newer with mods you have to install System pack, it will bring high resolution support, audio support etc.


1. Install GOTHIC 2: Gold Edition
2. Install Patch[www.worldofgothic.com]
3. Install Player Kit[github.com]
4. Install SystemPack[github.com]
L'Hiver-Mod
English Language[forum.worldofplayers.de]
German Language [forum.worldofplayers.de]
Polish Language

Original L'Hiver mod increases difficulty quite a lot so here is L'Hiver mod version which makes only visual changes.
D3D11-Renderer
Latest version has self updater so you don't have to worry about more updates!

Just unpack everything to Gothics "system"-folder, ie. "C:\Games\Gothic II\System"

Quicksave
This isn't visual tweak but it's pretty useful so how enable quick save / load in G2?

Go to your game directory, system folder and open Gothic.ini.
Then find useQuickSaveKeys=0 and change the zero to one: useQuickSaveKeys=1

Save it, load up the game and now you can use F5 for quicksave and F9 for quickload.

@ #ECPU Subway Boomin. DX 11 is A little buggy. you're better off without it. Use Artiemo Textures. They look better and the most popular. You may have problems finding the mod though. Go to https://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/forums/97-World-of-Gothic or www.worldofgothic.de

what are the graphics card requirements/recommendations for this mod? what screen resolution would be the best to play in full-HD, quad-HD, or UltraHD(4k) thanks.

I have an issue regarding DX11 after installing my save icons are entirely black.. is there a way to fix it? I tried nearly everything

Characters and buildings messed up after installing this, everything is all over the place, I can walk through buildings (they are transparent partially), it seems like it also added extra stuff in the game and the NPCs positions is super weird, like looking at a wall instead of sea, swimming instead of sitting on a chair etc. WTF is this mod? :br_cry:

Pls can someone give me a working link for DX11? I'm at the last step but i just can't find a working link anywhere. Nothing happens when i click on them.

Doesnt seem to work for me. I think the issue could be that the fix version is for 2.6, whereas the current steam version is 2.7. I'm getting an access violation error.

Also Playerkit links to Systempack.
And L'Hiver Mod download links are broken (the texture pack link works).

Just FYI, I installed in the following order: Patch - Systemkit - L'Hiver texture pack

I am getting odd errors
After following the steps I encountered an error: "Failed to find Game executable, cannot perform version-check..." you said to put the GD3D11 folder from system to Gothic root folder. After this when launching the game I get this error:

D: Direct3D Renderer: Cannot Initialize Direct3D Device. Unsupported Video-Hardware or Video Drivers? Terminating Now.

my computer specs:
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1660 Ti (Graphics card)
Intel Core I5 9400F 2.90GHz 6 cpus (Processor)
8gb of RAM.

@thenewpav I can't reproduce your error but try launching direct from executable in installation folder or try to copy GD3D11 folder from system to Gothic root folder. Hope it helps
