Far Cry Primal Guide

TAKKAR

I highly recommend Survival Mode. It was created after the original release of the game, and in my opinion is an improvement. You lose the mini map and some other features, but there is a big reduction in the amount of mobs you encounter and have to fight. There is a section in the guide to explain the differences. If you're thinking of trying Permadeath Mode please read the section on that before you attempt it.
GAME SET UP:
First go to Options, then Video. Make sure the Display Resolution and Aspect Ratio are correctly matched to the computer. They are not automatically set by the game. The last option at the bottom under Video is Advanced Settings. Click on that and look at the Field of View. Make sure it is set to 100. It can be increased even more, but the screen may start to get a noticeable fish eye effect.

Under Gameplay you may want to shut down Search Animations. This is so that every time you collect a resource, you don't have to watch Takkar doing it. It will save you a lot of time, and makes it possible to collect resources while fighting. There is an option to turn Hunter Vision on infinite. If you don't want to have to hit a button every twenty seconds while you're trying to find something it's a good choice. Just hit the button again when you want to turn it off.

The music in Far Cry Primal can keep you from hearing important information and prompts. If you're trying to play using stealth in expert mode it's a good idea to turn it off, under Audio. Hopefully there will be a patch in the future that allows you to adjust the music volume. If you want to turn the FPS counter off, this can be done by clicking on Ubisoft Club, then settings at the top right. There are many other settings there you may find helpful.

If you have an older computer and game is running slow, read the following

During the game you will see an FPS (Frames Per Second) counter on the top left corner of the screen. Hopefully your computer can keep this at a minimum of 11 FPS. If not, you can take certain steps to improve it. Under Video you will see Graphics Quality. Experiment with that until you find a setting that works well. The game looks great even in the Low setting. If it's still slow or you want to play in higher quality try reducing the resolution on your monitor, then match the Display Resolution of the game. You should check and make sure your video driver is up to date.
CHARACTERS:

SAYLA - Teaches gathering skills and how to show plants and resources on minimap.

TENSAY - Teaches beastmaster skills and how to control the owl.

WOGAH - Teaches crafting skills, traps, and gives access to the grappling hook.

KAROOSH - Teaches fighting skills, two handed club, and winter clothing.

JAYMA - Teaches hunting skills, tagging, how to craft the long bow and sling.

DAH - Teaches defense and the Berserk Bomb.

ROSHANI - Teaches fire resistance and the Fire Bomb.

After Sayla's first mission (Deep Wounds) you can craft the spear. The spear is the most versatile weapon in the game. When thrown it will take out most enemies in one shot, and can be used from a short distance when you draw and lunge. This is great for keeping mobs at distance while doing melee damage. If you work on upgrading the spear and spear belt you will have a much easier time playing the game in hard or expert mode when you get towards the end. The spear is your cruise missile.

Before you can tame animals you must find Tensay. Until you do you will be vulnerable to animal attacks. There are more wolves and predetors at night, so travel by day if possible. Any opportunity to sleep in a camp until dawn should be taken. Make sure if you clear a bonfire of enemies, you light it afterward. If you fail to do so the enemies will return, you will not receive any experience, and you will not be able to fast travel to that location. In Expert / Survival mode you will want to find Tensay before you explore or do anything else. After his first quest you will have an Owl for scouting, and after the second you will have a White Wolf and gain the taming ability. You need two deer skin for Sayls's hut, and four wolf skin for Tensay's hut to progress further in the story line. You may also want to hunt some Dholes, you will need about ten of their skins for early upgrades on your Quiver, Club Belt, and Guts Bag. Dholes are very easy to kill with a single hand club and some bait.

On Wogah's first mission you get the grappling hook, and have the opportunity to tame a Jaguar trapped in a cave. Make sure you dismiss it afterward, or it will die trying to follow you. All over Ooros you will spot paintings of a white bird on a rock. These are markers for the grappling hook. Most of the time the connector will be above you, but occasionally it will be on the ground and drop you into a cave. Any vines that glow yellow on rocks with Hunter Vision can be used to climb. To climb down simply walk off the rock where they are growing, and you will automatically spin and grab. After you build Wogah's hut you can craft the trap. It does high damage and can be used to kill almost anything in the beginning of the game.

After Wogah has joined your tribe, it's time to get Karoosh. When you go north to find him keep your eye out for the ingredients to upgrade the spear and craft the long bow, your two most important weapons. Even if you can't craft them yet, you can still see the resources you need to construct weapons by scrolling over them on the menu. The area where he is located is also a good place to find Yak to upgrade your Guts Bag. Karoosh's best contributions to the game are his take down skills. These along with Quiet Sprint and Crouching Sprint make stealth kills fun. Combine that with the Berserk Shard and Berserk Bomb and you can take down even the most difficult areas of the game alone.

On Jayma's first mission you will end up tracking a bear on an island. It is not necessary to kill the bear. If you tame it instead, Jayma will make fun of you for "finding a new friend." You will need one Brown Bear Skin to build Jayma's hut so it's up to you. Take notice of this area, located south of Payska River Outpost. Here you can find monkeys, woolly rhinos, and jaguars, all of which you will need for important upgrades. It has a good supply of southern rock dust along the shore. Rock dust is used for the final upgrades on your bow, club, and spear. There is a campsite near by which works as a fast travel point. Near the campsite you can find Sabretooth Tigers, the fastest pet in the game. It becomes a mount after you get Karoosh's Beast Rider skill.

After you speak to Jayma in the village, you will be able to craft a sling and long bow if you have the ingredients. The long bow comes fully upgraded and is a big improvement over the regular bow. At first the sling doesn't do damage, but when upgraded has the ability to kill with a head shot, and break the face mask off of heavily armored targets. There is an achievement through Uplay if you use it to kill ten enemies. It has unlimited ammo and is good for distractions from stealth and getting sacks out of trees. Jayma's tagging skills are extremely useful. They allow you to see targets through any kind of cover. Once a target is tagged you can command your pet to attack even when its not in your line of sight.

Before you go after Dah you may want to fully upgrade your spear, and acquire the Heavy Takedown skill. The Udam use poison gas which will kill you quickly if you dont get away. If you have trouble defeating the Big Darwa Fort where Dah is located, you should progress enough in the story line to finish the quest "Into Udam Land." After that you receive the poison antidote. This happens after Sayla's and Tensay's quests. Winter clothing is necessary for traveling in the north. Fully upgraded you will have ample time to survive the cold, without it you will die quickly.

Roshani can be challenging as well, the Izila fight with fire bombs. Make sure you have a good supply of meat and South Purple Leaf on hand for the Fireproof food recipe. That will heal you for two health bars and reduce fire damage for a limited time. Afterwards with Roshani's Fire Resistance skill the Izila will be easier to fight.
PETS:
The following is a list of pets you can tame, and their special abilities. The rare animals are not listed. Every rare animal has the same ability but is stronger and has fire resistance. The Great Scar Bear, Bloodfang Sabretooth, and Snowblood Wolf become available after you complete each Beastmaster Quest. They do not have any extra abilities, just slightly higher stats than their regular counterpart. They do not have fire resistance.

DHOLE - Gathers resources while you stand idle and from anything it kills.

WOLF - Expands your vision on the maps, growls to warn you of danger.

JAGUAR - Can be commanded to kill unaware targets without alerting nearby enemies.

LEOPARD - Will tag any near by animals so you can see them behind cover.

CAVE LION - Will tag any near by humanoids so you can see them behind cover.

BADGER - Scares and confuses all wildlife. Revives itself from death one time.

BROWN BEAR (Mount) - Gathers resources while idle, draws enemy attacks.

SABRETOOTH TIGER (Mount) - The fastest pet in Ooros.

CAVE BEAR - The strongest pet in Ooros, draws enemy attacks.

Your pet will be your tank and bodyguard. When summoned they will charge in to protect you. They can be commanded to attack specific mobs or told to stay so you can scout ahead for improved stealth. You can command your pet using the owl, allowing Takkar to stay undetected for stealth bonuses. When you command the pet to return it will run to where Takkar is parked so he can heal it. If you are afraid of the pet drawing enemies to Takkar, have your owl or Takkar park him in a bush or behind cover. Some quests can be completed just using your owl and pet while Takkar sits around. If any pet needs health and you are low on meat, simply STAND next to your dead prey and most of the time they will eat it.

Each pet has its own unique ability. The Badger can be fun to travel with, especially early in the game. Its ability is being a very ferocious, annoying animal that nothing else in Ooros wants to mess with, not even the Mammoths or Woolly Rhinos. With it you can run through the woods with reckless abandon knowing nothing will bother you, unless you get too far ahead. If something does attack you, as long as you don't fight back your Badger will rush in and scare them off. Unfortunately badgers don't scare the Izila or Udam, but make a difficult target for range attacks.

If you are stuck with an empty pack and need resources to craft weapons, call the Dhole to bring you more. They have an ability to gather resources when you're standing idle, and will fill your pack up with Flint, Hardwood, and Animal Hide. This works well towards the end of the game in hostile and remote areas, or if you're a vegetarian and don't want to hunt and skin animals. If you are really lazy sleep in the game while the Wenja gather your resources. If you are determined to farm all your own, and want to do it quickly, call in the Wolf. They expand the minimap so you can see a much larger area and more resources as long as you have Sayla's minimap skills. They also reveal more of the world map for quests and collectibles nearby. They are handy for keeping track of enemies or prey as well, allowing you to see them on the minimap at twice the normal distance.

If you like to use Sting Bombs and are having trouble finding Bee Clusters, call the Bear for help. They have the ability to gather them while you're standing idle, and will fill the pack up. They also replace Green Leaf for healing and Blue Leaf for running and swimming fast. They draw a lot of attention from enemies which gives you a better chance to get behind them and use take downs, great for attacking small groups. Once you have Karoosh's Beast Rider skill you can ride them, and while mounted you can still use your weapons and collect any resources you come across. They can swim so they make a great boat for hunting bitefish and avoiding alligators.

While crouching the Jaguar can be commanded to attack unsuspecting targets without alerting nearby enemies, excellent for stealth bonuses. It is the most stealthy pet and rarely draws attention. If you're careful, at night you can sneak deep into enemy territories together without causing alarm. Used for hunting you can both get right next to targets without being noticed. In expert mode it can take down three or four enemy warriors before it runs out of health, even more one at a time.

Once you have a target tagged you can see it through walls and behind cover. If your owl can't tag enemies because they are in a cave or under ground call in the Cave Lion. They tag humanoids without line of sight. If you park them on top of a cave or in a hut they will make you aware of enemies through the ground or walls. Keep in mind that once a target is tagged, you don't need line of sight to have your pet attack. If you aim directly at the tagged target your pet will travel fairly long distances into caves and behind cover. It is possible to have your Cave Lion kill all the enemies inside a cave while you sit outside.

Animal locations are marked on the world map. More predators can be found at night. If you are trying to find a particular animal and having trouble, go hunting with your Leopard. They have the ability to uncover and tag animals without line of sight. They will even tag Bitefish. Once the animal is tagged you can find it anywhere. You don't need to dismiss your pet before taming another, but you may want to park it at a distance while you approach alone. If your pet scares the prey and it escapes, once it's tagged it is easy to find again. The Leopard is great on quests when you have to clear other predators.

If you want a big distraction, nothing draws attention like the Cave Bear. They will have all other enemies in the area attacking while you have the chance to take them down. Be quick though, they are not indestructible and will die against large groups and elite targets. They are the strongest pet in the game until you start the Beastmaster quests. For a good fight get a Woolly Rhino mad, and when the Cave Bear rushes to protect stand back and watch.

All pets keep you safe as a passive ability. They will scare away threats, and if you are being attacked they will automatically defend you against enemies you're not attacking. The Sabretooth Tiger is the fastest, and one of the strongest pets in the game. They will defend you very efficiently, taking down enemies quickly. Once you have Karoosh's Beast Rider skill, you can ride the Sabretooth while using your weapons and collecting resources.
PETS - Survival Mode:
In survival mode the aggression of wild animals has been ramped up. This means that if your pet is considerably weaker than the attacking animal, it may not be able to scare it off. The Badgers ability will still work, but to be effective in all situations you must take scent camouflage. If predetors detect you before the Badger you will get attacked at least one time. Pets also die much easier on their own if you don't dismiss them before you swim or climb. They can easily fall or drown when they try to follow. Some time they may attack a target that is aggressive if you are running, so pay attention or they may stay back and die without you realizing what's going on.

All the pets other than epic pets (Great Scar Bear, Bloodfang Sabretooth, and Snowblood Wolf) will have less strength and health making them less effective and easier to kill. This will make epic pets noticeably stronger and more resilient. If an epic pet dies, it is gone from the game. The only way to get it back is to start a new game.

Your pet can be healed if it starts to die in combat, but if it dies it can't be revived. You must find another and tame it again. In Permadeath mode it can be dangerous to tame a Sabretooth TIger or Cave Bear because you have to fight them to half health first. If they are too close they may not see the bait if they are charging you. Use traps and stay at a distance. Use hills or water if available so they can't catch you. If your pet dies you can shut down the game with CTL F4 or turn the power off on your console. You will lose your progress, but the game will start from the last save and your pet will be alive again.
SKILLS:
You start the game with these skills.

PRIMITIVE TAKEDOWNS - Silent kill from stealth with a special animation and drag body away.
HUNTER VISION - Clues and interactive objects glow red or yellow, makes game monochrome.
PRIMITIVE AGILITY - Can slide into cover and stay low to break line of sight, throw a shard.
PRIMITIVE STEALTH - Throw rocks for distractions from stealth, pick up bodies.
PRIMITIVE FIRE - Light campfires or your weapons.

The following skills are recommended based on Expert mode play through. You don't have to get them in this order. The numbers after each are the amount of skill points needed to acquire them.
If you're not playing in Survival mode and you want to get these skills in this order, you need to find Jayma as soon as possible.

EXTRA HEALTH I (1) - Increases health by 33%.
SPRINT HEAL (1) - Allows you to heal while your moving.
PRIMITIVE HEAL (1) - Heal one health bar without resources.
TAME WILDCATS (1) - Tame large cats.
HEALTH REGERNERATION (3) - Regenerates health much faster.
TAME APEX PREDETORS (3) - Tame brown bear and sabretooth tiger.
TAG ENEMIES (1) - See enemies behind cover after being tagged.
REDUCE FALL DAMAGE (1) - Jump from greater heights.
TAG ANIMALS (4) - See animals behind cover after being tagged.
EXTRA HEALTH II (2) - Increase health by 25%.
PRIMITIVE HEAL II (3) - Heal two health bars without resources.
QUIET SPRINT (4) - Keeps enemies and prey from hearing you.
TAME CUNNING BEASTS (3) - Tame badgers and cave bears.

After that the choices become more trivial, but two important skills are Sayla's SHOW PLANTS and SHOW RESOURCES. They indicate where plants and resources are anywhere on the minimap making them extremely easy to find. They cost only one skill point each, and keep you from spamming Hunter Vision so you can start playing the game in color. You may also want to pick up CROUCH SPRINT and SPRINT FOREVER to make yourself faster and less visible for stealth.

Karoosh's TAKEDOWN SKILLS are good if you want to take enemy territory using stealth. They are designed for small groups and elite targets. Keep in mind you are given PRIMITIVE TAKEDOWNS at the beginning of the game. That and QUIET SPRINT allow you to walk or run up to enemies for quick kills before they know what's happening, and can take them down from behind cover. His WEAPON AGILITY and IMPROVE HEALTH III are very good. They make weapons faster and increase health. In Expert mode you may want to get those first. If you are playing Expert mode, as soon as Dah joins the village get all his skills right away. They improve your healing and defense. After that try traveling around without a pet for a while to make the game more interesting. You should have enough health and defense to survive anything. If you get in trouble and need your pet, just call.

You will need MAMMOTH RIDER for one of Karoosh's quests later in the game. BEAST RIDER will save you time traversing long distances if you ride the Sabretooth Tiger. It is possible to battle from the back of your mount. You can use any weapon like normal and the take down button becomes the pet's attack swipe. It's clumsy but fun, and can be useful on any quest where you have to rush in and protect the Wenja from predators. Both skills are a good value for two points each. Before them you must get DEATH FROM ABOVE, but for one point it is well worth it. If you jump or fall onto an enemy from a hut or cliff it does an instant brutal kill. It even works after a short jump, as long as you're higher than your enemy.

When you get either Fire or Berserk Bombs you will want the OWL WEAPON DROP skill. Just with Sting Bombs the owl can take out quite a few mobs to soften up targets. If you are having trouble with outposts and forts this is a good skill to get early in the game. The OWL ATTACK I skill is nice for one skill point. lt will allow you to take out an enemy at a distance in a search tower or strategic location and not sound any alarms, and can free animals from cages for distractions, but you could use an arrow for that as well. Having your owl melee attack more than one enemy is inefficient and time consuming. Always use it to scout dangerous areas and tag enemies.

Many guides recommend the craft arrow skills. Resources are so abundant they are not necessary. You can loot dead bodies for resources and get your arrows back again. During battle you can run over arrows or weapons to have them automatically added to your inventory. The fully upgraded arrow quiver has 48 arrows, more than enough for any situation. For one skill point each HUNTER VISION SACKS and CRAFT ARROWS I are cheap if you find yourself running out, and make loot easier to find. The BOW HANDLING skill is nice for three skill points if you are doing a lot of long distance shooting. ANIMAL WOUNDS will improve your DPS against all animals, but is expensive and with upgraded weapons is not necessary.

VICIOUS TRAPS can be handy, they take down most mobs in the game. In the beginning areas regular traps work just as well so you may want to wait. Beware that traps don't respond well to fire, and can kill your pet on occasion. If you or your pet are close to a trap when an enemy sets it off it will kill you both. On quests where you have to keep enemies away from certain areas or Wenja, they are helpful. They work well in caves when enemies have to funnel through tight areas. If you try to put a trap down and the game tells you "Traps can not be placed here" it is not referring to the entire area, just the spot your standing on. Take a step or two and try again.

Use skill points wisely. If you finish every quest eventually you will learn every skill, but that will be at the end of the game. This means that you will play most of the game without utilizing certain skills, so decide which ones are the most important to you. In Expert mode anything that improves your health and survivability is preferred. In normal or easy mode feel free to experiment with anything. In Survival / Permadeath mode it is wise to invest in improvements in stealth and speed.
SKILLS - Survival Mode:
Skills in Survival Mode have changed in value, and some have been removed completely. The following are recommended based on Expert / Survival / Permadeath mode play through. They are chosen with the goal of increasing your health, skills, and stealth as quickly as possible. The numbers after each are the amount of skill points needed. You don't have to get them in this order.

REVEAL TERRAIN I (1) - Increases the distance revealed on the World Map.
EXTRA HEALTH I (3) - Increases health by 33%.
TAME WILDCATS (2) - Can tame large Cats.
TAME APEX PREDETORS (3) - Can tame Sabretooth TIger and Bear.
HEALTH REGENERATION (3) - Regenerate health more quickly.
QUIET SPRINT (4) - Eliminates any sound you make while running or walking.
FIND RESOURCES I (3) - Collect twice the amount of resources.
SPRINT HEAL (1) - Heal while running or walking.
CROUCH SPRINT (2) - Ability to run while crouching.
SPRINT FOREVER (3) - Increases overall speed while running or walking.
DEATH FROM ABOVE (1) - Special animated kill when landing on enemy.
CLUB & SPEAR HANDLING (1) - Increases speed of melee weapons.
WEAPON AGILITY (1) - Increases speed of range weapons.
USE WEAPONS WHILE MOVING BODIES (1) - Ability to fight while carrying a body.
EXTRA HEALTH III (6) - Increases health by 25%.
SHARD TAKEDOWN (2) - Kill a second target from stealth at a distance.
HEAVY TAKEDOWN (4) - Kill elite target from stealth.
TAG ENEMIES (2) - Marks an enemy to see them behind cover.
HUNTER VISION SACKS (1) - Makes all bags and sacks visible with huntervision.
MAMMOTH RIDER (2) - Can ride a Mammoth.
BEAST RIDER (2) - Can ride a Sabretooth Tiger or Bear.
MELEE RESISTANCE I (3) - Reduces damage from attacks. Reduces chance to be knocked down.
DOUBLE BESERK BOMBS (3) - Make two bombs instead of one.
MELEE RESISTANCE II (4) - Reduces damage from attacks.
FIRE RESISTANCE (2) - Less damage from fire.

REVEAL TERRAIN I opens the World Map at twice the distance. To upgrade your skills you should hunt any collectible that appears on the map. Daysha Hands, Wenga Bracelets, Izila Masks, and Totems will help you acquire skills faster, to see their location you must zoom in on the map. They become more important if you're skipping side quests. Collectibles in caves can take a lot of time to find, and in certain cases can be risky. In Permadeath mode you may want to skip them. Two other strategies to upgrade skills faster are building the village and taking outposts using stealth. Taking an outpost without being detected will earn at least 1000 extra experience or more. It also makes traveling safer and fast traveling easier and cost less food. Once you take an outpost you will notice the surrounding area on the World Map is no longer highlighted in red. This means that area contains less enemies, and more allies.

In order to get TAME WILDCATS you will need to build Wogah's hut, which requires two Wolf Skin. If you do this before you talk to Sayla and build her hut (which requires two Deer Skin) you will have the chance to tame a Cave Lion. The Cave Lion is helpful when the Udam attack. Once you build her hut, the quest will start and you will not be able to leave the Wenja Villiage until the battle is over.

QUIET SPRINT is important in Survival / Permadeath Mode, it keeps all animals and humanoids from hearing you when running or walking. It greatly improves your stealth capability and speeds up the game so you can get around without being attacked all the time. FIND RESOURCES I will allow you to upgrade your weapons and village twice as fast. With it you will collect the resources you need to upgrade the Long Bow and Spear quickly. Hopefully you will have enough skill points to acquire it before you go in search of Karoosh.

SPRINT FOREVER increases your speed when running or walking. With this ability you will become more efficient from stealth, and will be able to escape from any dangerous situation involving humans, and most wildlife. WEAPON AGILITY improves the speed you can use weapons for a ranged attack. It increases the amount of attacks you can make within a limited time.

SHARD TAKEDOWN is a great skill if your using a stealth approach. Once you learn it, you can kill from stealth more efficiently. It also makes using stealth safer, you can throw a shard even if the enemy is looking at you. If you have used this ability and appreciate what it does, you may want to move it up on the list. HEAVY TAKEDOWN allows you to kill elite targets from stealth. Without it you will be disappointed if you sneak up behind an enemy, and then find you can't kill them from stealth. Hopefully you will have this skill before you attack the Big Darwa Fort where Dah is located. You will find many elite targets there, and it is possible to kill almost all of them at night from stealth.

TAG ENEMIES allows you to keep track of enemy location and movement. Even before you acquire the skill, the Owl and Cave Lion can be used for this purpose. Tagging enemies make it easier when you attack an outpost, bonfire, or have multiple enemies in a cave. HUNTER VISION SACKS allows you to see all the loot in the game with Hunter Vision. With the reduction of resources in Survival mode it is a good ability to have.

After you have all the skills above, the rest of your choices become less important. TAG ANIMALS becomes more trivial if your skipping many side quests, and PRIMATIVE HEAL is not necessary if your goal is to play a style that keeps damage to a minimum.

PRIMATIVE HEAL uses Stamina in Survival Mode.

TAME CUNNING BEASTS will give you more time to escape or tame a Cave Bear or Badger. Keep in mind that bait still works without this ability, you just can't make them your pet. To do so you must fight them to half health which can be dangerous in Permadeath mode. SEARCH TAKEDOWN will save you time when you kill using stealth. Any loot from the enemy is automatically added to your inventory. Every enemy you kill has loot, you have to search them to take it. You will know if an enemy is holding loot by using Hunter vision. If you have this ability and enemies continue to glow with huntervision after a take down, it means your inventory is full and you can't carry anymore of what they are holding.

VICIOUS TRAPS will help with any elite enemies or bosses and work well toward end of game. If you're using traps a lot you may want to make it a priority. DOUBLE SPEARS, DOUBLE TRAPS, and CRAFT ARROWS I are all good skills to have. With them you will need half the amount of resources to craft the same amount of weapons. This works well at the end of the game when you're attacking the most difficult areas.
WEAPONS:
Spear - The most powerful weapon in the game, works well for the final boss fights.
Long Bow - The longest range weapon with high damage and great accuracy.
Club - The fastest weapon with extremely high damage when fully upgraded.
Sling - Unlimited ammo, fast, used for distractions or pulling mobs if your using stealth.
Bow - Twice as fast than the long bow upgraded, good at medium range against multiple targets.
Double Bow - Fires two arrows instead of one.
Two Handed Club - Slow but powerful, has to be timed correctly to be useful.
Bait - Used to tame or distract predators.
Trap - Useful in tight areas with choke points. Upgraded will take down elite mobs.
Stone Shard - Useful from stealth and necessary for Karoosh's special take down.
Berserk Shard - When used from stealth can cause enemies to fight each other.
Sting Bomb - Can kill single or multiple enemies when grouped together.
Fire Bomb - Great at causing chaos, but use with caution around your pet.
Berserk Bomb - Causes your enemies to fight each other, and die afterwards.

Even if you can't craft them yet, you can still see the resources you need to construct weapons by scrolling over them on the menu. The Spear is very useful and works well at medium to short distance, but is accurate at longer range as well. When fully upgraded it can take down two enemies at once if you line them up. There is an achievement through Uplay if you use it to kill an enemy at 50 feet or more. The Spear is the most powerful weapon in the game.

The Long Bow is provided fully upgraded when you craft it and takes down most enemies in the game with a head or chest shot. It does 25% more damage then the regular upgraded Bow, but has half the rate of fire. Karoosh's Weapon Agility skill improves the rate of fire and speed of all weapons. The Double Bow does about 20% more damage than the long bow, but the lack of zoom and accuracy at distance make it disappointing. It has a 25% slower rate of fire than the regular bow.

The single handed Club is very fast. When spammed it doesn't give most enemies the chance to fight back. It is best used in small tight areas like huts and caves. The fully upgraded single handed club is superior to the two handed. According to the stats, when upgraded the single handed does about 25% less damage than the two handed, but can hit a target twice as fast. This works out to about 30% more damage in single combat. When you draw the two handed club it does more damage and can be fun to use against multiple enemies, but you have to time it right. Until you increase your health skills completely and acquire Dah's skill tree your character will be very squishy. In hard and expert mode you will want to keep a distance from any enemy, which makes the two handed club moderately useless for a large part of the game.

All weapons have a range attack while aiming and drawing. Aiming without drawing will tag any enemy once you have that ability. Drawing the long bow without aiming gives you a close to medium range shot, aiming gives a nice zoom for tagging and identifying enemies from a distance. The spear can draw and lunge if you don't aim which does significant damage from a short distance. Aiming and drawing the one handed club will throw it for a knockdown or a kill when fully upgraded.

Fire can be used to great effect night or day. The damage of all weapons is increased by setting them on fire. Use this ability sparingly or you will run out of resources very quickly. Weapons burn for a limited time then become useless. Once an arrow is set on fire you can not retrieve it again. If you light the club on fire you can hold a pack of wolves at bay and chase off large predators. If you light the ground on fire you can create choke points enemies will avoid, but you will take damage if you run into them yourself. In caves it can be used to light bonfires to see, or palettes to block your retreat. After a time the club will burn out. When this happens you automatically throw it away and pull out another unlit club. You can extend the life of the club by equipping another weapon. The club stays lit in your pack indefinitely unless you get wet, and won't burn until you use it again.

Bait is used to tame animals, or to walk up to them and attack. It will work on all predetory animals as soon as you have the ability to use it. Very early in the game you can escape predators using bait, but you must use Scent Camouflage and hide quickly or they will chase you down. Bait works well if you are hunting a particular animal for upgrades and they are troublesome. If you throw down all your bait it can keep a pack of animals occupied for easy kills. Once in a while in the heat of combat you may accidentally damage your pet. This can cause it to turn on you. Bait can be used to tame your pet again.
STEALTH:
As long as enemies are unaware of Takkar while attacking an outpost, you receive the Stealth Bonus. The Stealth Bonus will earn you more experience and will allow you to upgrade your skills faster. Keep in mind you are given the ability Primative Takedowns right from the beginning of the game. This means any enemy that doesn't see Takkar can be killed quickly once you're in range. When you get close a prompt will alert, when activated Takkar wil do a quick grab and kill. It is a stealth ability which means no sound will alert other enemies. In battle with other wenja, or your pet, it is possible to run up to enemies for quick take downs. Sending your pet in first and then running in and using this ability, you can tag team small groups for quick kills. As long as their attention is not on Takkar the prompt will activate. It always helps to approach from behind. Once you master this skill and have the other stealth abilities you may find you prefer to play without a pet.

Stealth in Far Cry Primal is designed to be very fast paced. With the Quiet Sprint skill enemies will not hear you, but they will see you. While sprinting if you press crouch you can slide into cover and stay low. Don't be afraid to slide into cover right next to an enemy if they are not looking, they won't hear. You must break their line of sight and get behind them or hide as fast as possible. Take advantage of cover like water, bushes, large rocks, or huts. Even shadows can hide you if the targets are standing in the light. When your enemies are in the dark and you are in the sun light it can blind them, cave entrances are a good example. Once an enemy has eye contact you have about two or three seconds to get behind cover again before they call for help, depending on your distance. If they start yelling and you kill them quickly enough nobody will notice, but if you are spotted you lose the stealth bonus. If you are on a quest using take downs and blow your cover, reload the last check point or restart the quest and try again.

Use the owl to fly over enemies and tag them so you can see targets from a distance. Use the minimap to stay aware of their movement and the direction they're facing. Go into audio and turn off the music so you can hear what your enemies are doing, and listen for the take down prompts. Throw rocks or use your sling to get them facing away. When the sling or bow are used while crouching behind cover, you will stand or lean to stay hidden. Behind cover you can reach over or around to pull in an enemy, a special animated Cover Takedown you get more experience for using and are given from the beginning of the game. When prompted you can pull a target inside a hut through a window or doorway. Hanging from vines, or standing below an enemy you can reach up and stab for a Ledge Takedown. This works in any situation when they're close to a ledge with you right below. Using stealth at night decreases visibility, especially if your targets are holding or standing near fire. It's possible to take down small groups one at a time without causing attention.

It is a good idea to try to take out enemies from the top down. You have an advantage if you can get above them. When enemies are above you or at an equal height, they can see you move from a long distance. On the other hand they tend not to look up. You can be standing close to a target that is looking in your direction and if you are above them they usually won't notice. It always helps to be standing in the shadows or dark, while your enemies are in the light. Cover is the only contradiction to this rule. When crouching behind cover enemies will not see you even standing right above you looking in your direction, as long as you don't move. This rule also works for animals that are skittish and difficult to hunt, such as deer. From a cliff or cover they are easier prey.

You can pull single targets away from groups with your sling. Aim at a spot in a cave or hut where you want them to go, and if they are close enough to hear they will investigate. Then use a take down or shoot them with an arrow without alerting anybody. If the distance is still to close, move back and use your sling again in another area to pull them further. Some mobs will ignore the sling, but any mob that is on patrol will hear it. Just be aware that all mobs that hear it will look in that direction.

Make sure you keep bodies out of sight or the alarm will sound. If you start moving backwards during a take down you can drag the body behind cover, into shadows, or into the water. If you move forward you can give the body a nudge to push it over a cliff, but be careful you don't follow. The Death from Above skill works for stealth if you can get above the enemy without being seen. If you are facing a group and can't get close, hit one from a distance with a Berserk Shard or throw in a Berserk Bomb. Use the Primative Takedowns and Quiet Sprint skills to your advantage killing unaware enemies from behind even if they are screaming the alarm. If they are not moving kill them quickly with a Stone Shard. If you have Karoosh's Shard Takedown skill it will kill the next nearest enemy if you activate it when prompted. You must be looking at the enemy for the prompt.

It is possible to clear some areas in the game with nothing but the bow and get the Stealth Bonus if you pick your targets carefully. Animals in cages can be set free with an arrow for distractions while targets are picked off around the perimeter, but if you are close when released they attack you. You need to distract or wait for enemies to look away so they don't notice each other dying. This strategy is much easier to use at night when bodies are hidden by darkness.

If the area seems too difficult to go for the Stealth Bonus, you can still get the Alarm Bonus. Destroy all the Horns and kill the Slingers first. Slingers attack with the sling and are the only enemy that carry their own horn. They are usually on top of huts and in lookout towers. When tagged they look like they have a banana above their head. If you can break all the horns and kill them without alerting anybody, no alarm will sound. After that even if you're spotted you can continue to do hit and runs using stealth and take downs. If somebody is chasing you circle behind them for a quick kill. If every enemy is tagged you won't have to worry about any more surprises. Keep in mind if you shoot a horn with an arrow it can draw attention, if you sneak up and break it using stealth it usually will not. Horn locations are very easy to spot with Huntervision. When tagged they look like they have a white banana above them. When scouting and tagging with your Owl you should always turn on Huntervision to locate enemies and horns.

In the south it is possible to steal the Mask of Krati without getting captured, and going completely undetected if you try. You can achieve this by using your sling to distract, taking advantage of all possible cover, and timing their movements so you have the chance to hide. If you achieve this there is no extra reward, but you get the chance to see a different cut scene and the ability to leave the cave on your own.

There is an option under Gameplay to reset all the outposts and forts. When you finish the game you can reset them without losing the skills and weapons you have collected. At this point you can switch to expert mode if you have not already. Almost every outpost and fort has a back door or two, designed for stealth entry. Many go through caves or up and down cliffs. The most rewarding experience in the game is keeping the enemy from sounding the alarm while you take their territory with no help from your owl or pet, and using nothing but melee and stealth in expert mode.
SPELUNKING:
Far Cry Primal has cave systems created to be an extra challenge. Some are long and intricate. There are no quests to take you to most caves, you have to look. Just put the cursor over any cave on the world map, and it will tell you the Status, either Explored or Unexplored. There are around twenty cave systems. In most caves you don't need weapons, there is nothing to fight. The only danger is falling to your death, drowning, alligators, snakes, fire and poison gas. No quicksand?

You will need the grappling hook and a supply of hardwood, flint, and animal fat. Use your Hunter Vision to find any vines or grappling hook connectors. Burn any vines that block your path, and break down any rock or ice walls. If you try to use your grappling hook and the target turns red after your throw, look closely. It may have ice or vines that you have to break off or burn with an arrow before it will work. It helps to keep a tourch lit, and light any bonfires or palettes. If the palette is floating on water, shoot it with a flaming arrow so you can see where your swimming.

The challenge is trying to find the single Cave Painting and Daysha Hand inside. If you have trouble, use the waypoint on the world map to mark them. Then you can see the location and will know if you need to go higher or lower into the cave. Once they are found you receive a message saying the cave is complete. These systems can be an enjoyable break, but if you die inside one sometimes you have to travel long distances to make it back.
SURVIVAL MODE:
SURVIVAL MODE is a total rebalancing of the game which will change the way you play. It is an improvement over the original release based on feed back from the gaming community. It has a new element in the STAMINA BAR which creates a time limit on activities. Running, swimming, climbing, and fighting will increase the speed you use stamina. Fast traveling will cost food and have a stamina penalty. Tbe longer the distance is to the fast travel point, the more stamina and food you will need. If stamina drops to zero you will slow down and have trouble aiming your weapons. You get stamina back by sleeping, or small amounts by eating.

IF YOUR GOING TO PLAY SURVIVAL MODE GET HEADPHONES READY. Unless you listen carefully you will not know where predators are at night or in heavily forested areas. You must rely on sight and sound to tell you where they are.

Now if they would only change Hunter Vision so interactive objects sparkle red and yellow and keep the game in color, allow us to holster weapons for picture and video production, have an over the shoulder camera view option for third person play, create a coop mode with Urki, add a larger variety of side quests tailored as incentive to use stealth and other skills......................
TIPS:
CONTAINS SPOILERS

In Expert / Survival mode your pet can die on its own. If you tell it to stay and it gets attacked, it may not fight back. It may run off and attack an aggressive target while you are traveling. If you go climbing on a cliff or swimming, the pet will attempt to follow and can fall or drown. Make sure you dismiss the pet before attempting these activities if you don't want to take the chance of your pet killing itself and watch it closely.

In the very beginning of the game, the first quest you have is to kill three goats. After you get to camp and it turns to night, if you go back again there will be Tapir. This is a great opportunity to get four Tapir skins which you will eventually need for an upgrade on your pack so you can carry more loot. If you hear the Sabretooth don't worry, there are never any predators in this area.

Right after Tensay joins your village, you should get the Tame Wildcats skill and tame a Cave Lion as soon as possible. If you're lucky you can get a Rare Black Lion which is stronger. The best way to achieve this is to take the Stone Watch Bonefire east of the wenja village. It is located at the point where the mountain range drops off and allows you to go south. Just south of it is an area where Cave Lions spawn. Just past that to the south is the Cave of Hasari where you will first meet Jayma. This cave will randomly spawn Dholes, Jaguars, Wolves, a Cave Bear, or nothing. There will always be a rare animal in the pack, usually the first one to run out of the lower cave.

If you summon your pet after crossing a river and it spawns on the wrong side, dismiss it again. Summon a different pet and once that pet gets to you resummon the pet you wanted. If you only have one pet move inland and try again.

If there is a lot of water in the area summon the bear. They swim, and once you have the Beastrider skill they become a boat and keep alligators away. In Expert / Survival mode you can tame a bear easily on Jayma's first mission where the quest will end with a bear on an island. First dismiss your pet, you won't need it. There are two hills in the middle that the bear can only climb from one side. This means if you jump down in the direction of the other hill, the bear will have to go back and around giving you the chance to climb the second hill, so the bear can never catch you. Throw down bait, spear bear in head, throw more bait and shoot arrows. The bear can be tamed when the indicator changes from an exclamation point to a hand. If anything goes wrong just restart the last checkpoint, which is possible even if the bear has you pinned to the ground.

You never have to use the meat in your stash. There is always plenty lying around the village, especially after you build Jayma's hut. Then you will have an endless supply of meat, bones, and deer skins. Always zoom in and look at the map for new sacks. After you take or finish a quest new ones can appear. A good example are the two that appear in Tensay's cave after you tame the Owl. Sometime they contain animal skins that you will need for important upgrades.

All over the game there are round sacks hanging from trees. Random objects of the same type will spawn inside. If you find one that contains animal skins, you can save and quit the game then go back for more skins. This will allow you to upgrade your gear very quickly. Jayma's Hunter Vision Sacks skill can be handy to find them.

Feathers can be hard to come by early in the game, ravens and buzzards are ridiculously hard to kill. Eventually you will meet Karoosh, the warrior. You will find him in a sunken area surrounded by rocks with a pond in the middle, being attacked by the Udam. Just north of this you can find partridges which are flightless, and very easy to kill. There is snow and your cold meter will activate. This is a great area to farm northern black rock and clay which you will need for important upgrades on the spear and long bow. There is a camp site just to the east. You can trek east for a while then north at the beginning of the game for feathers if you want to upgrade right away.

There is an easy way to find those five tricky Bitefish Skins for your Spear and Bomb Belt upgrades. There is an area near waterfalls where you will meet a character named Urki. Directly to the west of him down the hill by the river is a side quest at the Sleeping Galum Tomb. The quest giver is female and asks you to save her sister. This quest is fairly easy and gives you the opportunity to kill Bitefish. With the long bow you can take out the first two Izila on the rock above them. The next two both throw fire so be careful, you can just send a strong pet and direct it with your owl. After the four Izila are dead kill bitefish until you have four or five skins, then swim through the cave and kill the last Bitefish and finish the quest.

There is an easy way to tame a Leopard. In the camp where Dah is located there is a Leopard in a cage. It is at the top of the tallest cliff all the way to the left of the entrance. If you climb the cliff, you can tame it without having to attack the whole camp. After you take the outpost it is gone, so tame it before you capture Dah. You will need to upgrade your clothing first to survive in the cold.

When Wogah joins the village and you have the ability to create traps there is an easy way to tame a Sabretooth Tiger. By this time Sayla should also have a quest where she asks you to go save a hunter in the Cave of Bones. In Expert / Survival mode there will be three cave lions and a Sabretooth. Even if you don't have winter clothing yet don't worry, as soon as you enter the cave you won't need it. Just make sure you have meat, bait, hardwood, and traps.

When you enter the cave, as soon as it turns right stay back and throw a bait. One lion will run to it, tame and immediately dismiss it. Allow it to pass you to exit the cave, then move forward a little until you can see the bones (Huntervision) and throw another bait. Tame and dismiss the second lion. Now the cave will be empty until you talk to the trapped hunter. In the first room there is a pile of meat, so stock up on bait and take it. If you are low on green leaves there are sacks with that as well. Keeping the cave wall on your right you will come to a narrow incline with a ledge at the top you have to climb. The Sabretooth will hunt you by following your scent trail. Put a trap about half way up, then climb up and put a second trap close to the top of the ledge. If the game tells you "traps can't be placed here" just move half a step and try again. At this point the trapped hunter should be up another incline on your right. Straight ahead on your left there is another ledge. Facing that with the trapped hunter behind you there is a third incline on your right that gets narrow and takes you back the the entrance. Put a third trap just inside it. Now go up by the hunter. In front of him on the ledge you will notice a rock that sticks out coming to a point by the cave ceiling. When you climb on this nothing can get to you.

Now you're ready to start the final sequence. Right after you speak to the hunter, turn to your left and throw down a bait on the ledge about five or six feet away. The third cave lion should come running and take it. If he starts to take it then doesn't, throw another bait quickly. Tame and dismiss him. You may hear the Sabretooth hit a trap while your taming the cave lion, don't worry he will usually stay back afterwards if your trap was placed correctly. Now climb up on the pointed rock by the ceiling. Wait until the Sabretooth trips a second trap which may take a minute, then throw down some bait and tame him. If you did everything correctlly this strategy will work 4 out of 5 times. If anything goes wrong, you need to hit ESC and restart the quest. If you restart the last check point your traps will be gone.
PERMADEATH:
Permadeath does not increase the difficulty of the game, it only ends it if you die. If you have never played this game before don't start in Permadeath mode. Even if you have, you should have a game plan before you attempt it. As you play the game the missions get progressively more difficult. The final boss fights against Batari and Ull consist of waves of warriors attacking you. Unless you develop a solid game plan on positioning and strategy, you will spend many hours to get to that point only to be killed and have to start over.

Far Cry Primal is programmed to have many random functions which can cause you to die. Take your time and explore the game in Expert / Survival mode first. Develop strategies for the main quest line and taking outposts and bonfires that reduces your damage to a minimum. Restart every quest before you finish to get more experience and erase your mistakes. Practice climbing on cliffs and killing with take downs from stealth. Bushes are your friends, it seems that sometimes even blades of grass can hide you. To complete the game in Permadeath, you only need to finish the main quest line which is about 50% of the game. It is not necessary to complete any quests highlighted in orange including the Great Beast Hunt quests. You will not need the legendary pets.

You do need to complete upgrading the village to access all of the main story line.

Pay attention to the behavior of enemies and use it against them. Berserk shards are very efficient if you can find the most elite enemies (except bosses) and hit them with it from cover. Then you can stay hidden and let them do all the work for you. Your best friends in Permadeath mode are Berserk Shards, Traps, and Berserk Bombs. When used correctly you can get through most of the game with minimum use of your pet, you won't even need them for the final boss fights. If enemies are attacking you don't try using traps, only use them when you are at a distance. If you put one down in front of an attacking enemy and it triggers, you both will die. Keep traps away from dead bodies as well. Make sure you and your pet are not near traps when enemies set them off. You can put eight traps down at one time. If you put down nine, then the first one disappears and you will have wasted a trap. Even if you can only carry two, you can make more and keep putting them down in strategic locations to keep enemies away.

There are quests given by Tensay in which you chase an owl, and receive powerful weapons using ice and fire. They begin after you drink one of his potions and enter a dream. Because you can't die from a dream, you can't die on these quests. If you are killed, you just restart at the last check point.

Remember when you're on a quest YOU can always restart the last checkpoint or the whole quest at any time. One good example of why this can be important is the quest "An Eye for an Eye". You have to help Karoosh fight out of a cave in the North. This can be very difficult in Expert / Survival mode, but after a little practice you can make it much easier. If you dismiss your pet it is possible to kill all the enemies with take downs and shard take downs before you enter. Once you're inside, you have to talk to Karoosh two times before he gets up and the Udam start running in. After you talk to him the first time summon your pet. You can go back out the top again, kill any enemies that might be left, put traps all around the outside of the main entrance, then go back and talk to him. This makes the quest very easy as long as you place the traps correctly, and concentrate on shooting any ranged attackers with your long bow as you leave the cave.

If things go terribly wrong remember you always have an emergency button.........ESC. The safest time in the game is when you're on a quest. No matter what happens you can restart the last checkpoint. restart the quest, or abandon it and try again later. When you are not on a quest and you hit escape you can save and quit. If you are being attacked you will be "in combat" and the game will not allow you to stop playing. But if you can manage to hide, and break the attackers line of sight using cover, you leave combat and will be able to save and quit. If you are in combat but are not being attacked, you can quit to desktop and you will restart at the last point the game saved. If you can't do that, press CTL F4 to turn off your game and then restart it, or just power down your console. If your falling off a cliff or being charged by multiple predators this is a better option then losing all your progress, and smashing your computer :)

If you found this guide helpful please rate it at the top and leave a comment below. If you have a question I would be glad to try to answer it in the comments section. Oh and.....don't pet your badger too much, he doesn't like it.

Goood luck in Ooros !!!!

BUGS:
The SNOWBLOOD WOLF HUNT quest is bugged. Make sure you save the game before you start the quest. Once you do, try very hard not to die until it is finished. Follow the tracks and don't stray from your path. If other side quests pop up ignore them.

DO NOT EXAMINE ANY CLUES THAT ARE NOT IN AN ORANGE ZONE. Each time you follow tracks they will take you to an orange zone on your map. In that zone will be a clue. Once you examine that clue the zone disappears, and a new one forms. When you examine a clue Takkar will have something to say, if he doesn't say anything there may be a problem. It is possible to examine clues that are not in an orange zone and bug the quest. When the quest bugs, you will not be able to kill the white wolf. It becomes immune to any damage, and its life bar will be gone from the screen.

THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS TO LOAD A PREVIOUS SAVE. If the quest didn't bug before the autosave you can start from that point. If it did you need to load your save game, and start all over from the beginning. The quest will reach a point where you have to make a decision on which way to go. It doesn't matter, either way will have the same result. The most important factor is not to examine any clues except the one in the orange zone on your map.

After you examine the clue in the final zones, it activates the wolf bosses and you must hunt them. If you do everything correctly and the white wolf freezes on your screen, load the auto save and try again. If he freezes again in the same spot, you must intercept him before he gets there. You are able to see his trail on your screen with hunter vision, he is a rare animal. The next time you examine the clue that activates him run to a location that intercepts him before the spot he is freezing. Once you kill the final boss your are able to tame him. Do so quickly or he will revive and you will have to fight him and his pack all over again.

Jayma's THE TALL ELK quest has a bug. You will reach a point when you have to "wait for the Tall Elk to appear." At this point if the quest bugs nothing will happen. The Udam are supposed to run in blowing a horn, and the Tall Elk walks out of the cave. For an unknown reason sometimes the Udam never appear and the Elk never walks out of the cave. If this happens and you restart the quest, it will continue to stay bugged. You need to abandon the quest, sleep in the camp that is extremely close by, then come back and restart it until this doesn't happen. If you don't want to bother doing the quest correctly with the chase, just walk in the cave under the waterfall where the Elk is standing and beat him to death with your club. This may take a minute or two. Once he is dead, skin him and the quest is finished.

To complete all the Main Quest lines in the game, you need to finish all the main characters quests who are listed in my guide, plus Urki who I did not mention (which makes him a nice surprise.) The one thing that can make this a bit confusing is that before the characters can give you all their quests, you must fully upgrade your village. Each time you upgrade, new quests will open.

What are the main quest lines in the game? I thought it would be sufficien to kill Ull and Batari to get Second Chance achievement but that was not the case. At first, I killed Batari and then I killed Ull. Before that I got everyone in the village except for Roshani (and Urki). Since killing Battar and Ull did not give me the achievment, I tried to do all other quests while I got Roshani to the village, made some quests of people who I brought to village (not all of them) and once I got Urki to the village (making all of his tedious quests), I finally got the achievemnet (after I got some promt to talk to Sayla.
