Introduction
THIS GUIDE WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATED BECAUSE DUE TO IMPOSSIBILITY TO TWEAK THE GRAPHICAL ENGINE, AS IT WILL BE CHANGED ON EVERY GAME UPDATE, SO IT WILL RESULT IN A MORE DIFFICULT WORK!

In this guide I'll show you how to increase your FPS and reduce freeze in Dungeon Defenders II by tweaking the configuration file.
I took the trouble to "tweak" in the graphics engine configuration file, so I decided to change it to make the game more smooth by increasing the FPS and reducing freezes.
Increase FPS and reduce freezes
SETTINGS HAVE BEEN TESTED BY ME, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING! EVERYTHING SHOULD WORK WELL BUT IN SOME CASES IS RECOMMENDED TO MAKE A BACKUP OF CONFIGURATION FILE!

First of all we need to access the game folder, located in: C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dungeon Defenders 2\DunDef2\Engine\Config and then we need to edit the "BaseEngine.ini" file.

To do that i recommend to use Notepad++ which is easy and versatile.

UPDATED 24/04/2016
Once you have opened the file change the following values (you can use CTRL+F to find them):
Distortion=False
UnbatchedDecals=False
FogVolumes=False
MotionBlur=False
DepthOfField=False
AmbientOcclusion=False
Bloom=False
UseHighQualityBloom=False
AllowRadialBlur=False
DetailMode=0
MaxAnisotropy=1
DropParticleDistortion=False
OneFrameThreadLag=False
LensFlare=False
FogVolumes=False
DynamicLights=False
DynamicShadows=False
ShadowFilterQualityBias=0
FloatingPointRenderTargets=False (SET TO TRUE IF THE GAME DOES NOT RUN)
AllowOpenGL=True (THIS DEPENDS ON YOUR VIDEO CARD, IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS DISABLE IT!)
bSmoothFrameRate=True

This will give you more FPS and the game will result more stable.
WARNING! AFTER DOING THIS YOUR GAME MAY LOAD SLOWLY OR LAG AT START, JUST BE PATIENT!

Be very careful when you edit this file, because if you do something wrong the game may not start!
As mentioned above, make a backup of the file.

Don't forget to go in the game settings and set everything low, turn off V-Sync, disable Post Processing, disable view distance, etc...
Other tweaks
If the game still lags then lower the resolution, for example, I use a (crappy) laptop that has the 1366*768 resolution. If you use monitors with higher resolutions (such as 1920*1080) then lower it to 1280*720, do not go down otherwise the texture may become "pixelated" depending on the size of your screen.

If you are playing on an Intel HD Graphics integrated, like me, you can consider the idea of adding extra RAM to your PC, especially in laptops the perfomances improves very well.

Another effective method is to install a program like Razer Cortex to close background processes and free up ram, gaining a few more FPS, it may work or not, everything depends on the PC. I tested it and i got 5-7 FPS more.

You can clean your PC junk by installing a program like CCleaner

You can increase your video RAM too: it depends on the motherboard and the video card. In some computer is not possibile because the BIOS doesn't allow that; you can check if your PC is capable to do that by entering your BIOS and set it (you must search a guide for your PC model in order to modify BIOS settings, don't worry Google is your friend^^). IT IS POSSIBLE ONLY WITH INTEL HD GRAPHICS INTEGRATED CARDS (HD 4000, 4400, 5300, etc...) AND WITH AMD APU PROCESSORS (5800K, 6400K, 7850K, 7870K, etc...)

Another good method is the core unparking: you can unpark your CPU parked cores to gain a huge performance boost. You can download this program here[www.coderbag.com]
When you run the program just click on "Check Status" and if all the values are "parked" then click on "Unpark All" and the trick is done!

THe guide reallt helped with my framerate though I see only three problems with my game so far: There are always gaps in the layout whenever I look at the range on the defense, I can see the orbs through the flames of the motes which shouldn't happen and I can't see the beacons for items that drop on the map from far away. What setting could help me fix this?

Adondriel and if your monitor can show that many frames. Many high end monitors can show 144 fps.

Hello guys, unfortunately this guide won't be updated in the future because of new graphical engine update and implements, so it has become difficult! I apologize for it, have nice days :)

FenrisTheProphet, you have no clue how FPS works... stop spreading misinformation. Yes, most movies are fairly low FPS, but for video games/computers, it depends on your monitor. If you have a 60hz monitor, you will not be seeing more than 60fps, if you have a 120hz monitor, you can in theory (as long as your pc is powerful enough) see 120fps (in theory, there is always a little bit of diminishing stuff)
