Making sure you live through the night depends on everyone knowing what they're supposed to do and getting ♥♥♥♥ done fast. Not only that, but when crap hits the fan people need to know what they have to be doing otherwise there'll be even more meat on the hooks.

Here's what you're supposed to do, the tools at your disposal as well as the places to go and avoid.

Item Locations
One of the first things you can do is find an item. If you're like me, and wasted your items already, there are a few locations that are guaranteed to have chests.

Basement - This is probably the safest place to go to in the game. Don't worry about it. The blood is just rasberry jam.

The double decker home - on the top floor there is always a chest. Might have basement.

Factory - Top floor has a chest in the control room. Might have basement.

Shack - Might have basement.

Weird tree - It's a big tree in the middle of the forest. Has a chest next to it.

Farmhouse - Has a chest inside, underneath a window.

Watertower - Sometimes has a chest around it's foundation.

Logpile - Might have a chest

You can find chests randomly in the forest as well.

This goes without saying that searching a chest while the killer is nearby is a big no-no.

If you survive a match with the item you found, it will be added to your inventory for future use.

Now that you've found your item, you can now help out your team in whatever capacity you've been assigned!
Medkit
Decoy. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON you should be using the medkit for other people. You can heal other people without a medkit for pretty much the same speed.

Having a medkit implies the only useful nature comes out of taking damage. Therefore, you should be keeping track of the killer and making sure that he isn't about to down anyone. If someone comes out wounded, follow the monster and try to run in front of him and get him to chase you.

Take a hit if it would mean your friend gets downed. Killer will slow down to wipe off the blood, and you will get a speed boost to help get away. This puts you in a bad situation, but it gets your friend out of an outright ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one.

Once you've enticed the monster, run around a window or drop-down barricade and constantly try to heal yourself. You'll eventually be all better after baiting the monster back and forth.

Best places to distract the killer are the shack and the double decker house. They both feature 3 ways in, two of which are windows, and a long way for the killer to walk between the interior and exterior.

I guess the top floor of the factory could work, since it's got 2-3 windows with a doorway, but if you're running up there with the killer in tow, chances are you're gonna take needless damage/get downed before you reach the tippy top.

If the killer is focusing on you, try to run towards one of these havens. The longer he plays cat and mouse with you in these locations the better off your friends are when they're setting up the generators/destroying hooks.

Standard medkit reliably heals one wound, even with no skillfails. The second use might heal you, or it might get you to a useless 99%.

Assume it's one and done, so ditch it when you use it.

***Also, in general, if one of your teammates is picked up by the killer, try to run in front of the killer to distract him so your bud can wiggle free. Hopefully the killer won't have the better sense to go straight to a hook, and you shouldn't be worried about getting caught since your wiggling friend penalizes his movement.

I repeat, if you're not taking damage in the game it doesn't make you a good survivor. A good survivor takes hits for the team when it's necessary. It's a lot easier to salvage two people running away wounded than it is to get a person off the hook.

Then again there is the risk of getting hooked anyways. But to me the risk is worth it.

*** - As suggested by Derpy. Thanks!
Toolbox
Sabotage. All. The Hooks.

Keep track of where basement is and stay away from it. Sabotaging hooks increases the chances of you surviving lategame *exponentially* as long as you stay away from basement. Sabotage the traps as well, so that the killer can't reuse them.

Don't waste your toolbox on repairing generators. My experience tells me that it might double the passive repair rate, but you should hopefully getting most of the repairs done by great skillchecks.
Flashlight
Flashlight - Rescue. Saving a victim if they're being carried is very hit or miss. I've had times where I'd get the points for rescuing, but the killer just drops the body and my friend remains in a downed state.

Instead, the flashlight is best used when you notice someone gets wounded. Immediately look around for your friend, and find out where they're being chased. Cut in front of them (with good distance mind you!) and shine the light directly in the killers face. This should buy you and your friend enough time to make a getaway.

The flashlight works better at range. Think of a distance the flashlight would be appropriate, then take 10 steps back. This ensures the flashlight works, you probably don't get hit, and the killer gets blinded.

Think of the flashlight as a portable drop-down barricade in this sense. It can really help out when you're out in the middle of nowhere.

Additional perks of having a flashlight include the ability to communicate by repeatedly flashing the light on your teammates. This is good for indicating heals especially to players who are new.

I'm sure you can use the flashlight if the killer is camping a hooked victim, but I've yet to come across a scenario like that in my usage. Either my team is not in that situation to begin with, or I've already used up my flashlight battery.
Map
Objectives. While other guys that don't have anything important to do will repair the generators to full, you're going to repair the generators to 95% and move on.

Your item gives you the ability to run to generator to generator and complete them scarily fast once they're set up, throwing the killer off on how many objectives actually are completed.

With that said, if you have a map you're not supposed to help or rescue. While your teammates are busy trying to save themselves, the killer is occupied. Get ♥♥♥♥ done while you've got some air to breathe.

If I have a map, I'd be reluctant to save anyone. It's a pretty good lategame tool when things go south, but it won't help you salvage a bad situation. Cut your losses and get out.
Locations
The map is randomly generated each game but there are parcels that remain persistent as well as their wood pallets and I think as well generators. Some locations are more dangerous than others, so be careful!

Wood pile - This is problably the worst generator location in the game. There are no cades to block the killer off, and you have half of your view obstructed by the logs. Get this generator done first so you don't have to deal with it later.

Big tree - VERY DANGEROUS. On par with the log pile, because it always spawns near the center of the map and it has almost no cover to hide behind or barricades to block with.
It always has a generator, so get it done while you've got teammembers to distract and other generators for the killer to patrol.

Factory - This spot probably has a basement, is guaranteed to have a chest on the upper floor, and will always have two pallets laying in between the treads and the building on both sides. This is a decent spot to run to in case if you're being chased, since the hole in the wall on the side has a long distance between the doors, making escape possible. Bear traps might be on either side of the hole, so be careful.

Shack - The safest spot in the game. If I'm wounded, I always hang around this location until I find a friend to heal me up. The shack features two windows, a see-through wall for you (not so much the killer, since their movement messes with looking in-between pallets) sometimes a generator, and sometimes a basement. Because this spot is so popular for survivors, some killers have taken to putting bear traps on the windows. Be very careful about this.

Two-floor house - This is a pretty safe location, however the walls make it so the killer can surprise you if you camp this house. It features 2 waist-high doorways, 2 regular sized doorways with one barricade, a second floor which might have a generator, a guaranteed chest, and maybe a basement. You can jump off the second floor at no risk for a sneaky getaway.

Brick maze - Not always guaranteed to have barricades but if you're being chased this is a good spot to run to. Usually has windowsills to jump through, plenty of closets, plenty of ways to break line of sight. If you want to give the killer the slip, this is the place to do it.

*Will update with additional locations and pictures. I wanna play the game more now!
Should I try to rescue that survivor who's being chased?
First off, I only help out survivors who are wounded AND being chased. If they're at full health I assume they're distracting.

Are you at full health? If not, then NO. You'll only make a bad situation worse if you get downed yourself. This point takes priority over all others.

Do you have a toolbox? Probably shouldn't, you're better off sabotaging hooks. You can help them indirectly that way. If the killer is carrying someone to a hook you're sabotaging, and you are about to finish up, I'd take the hit and finish up the work.

Do you have a flashlight? YES. Cut the killer off in front and blind them. You can try to free your teammate when they're being kidnapped, but it might not work.

Do you have a medkit? HELL YES. Take a hit if your kit's at full charge. Otherwise, you're basically without a tool.

Do you have a map? HELL NO. Do objectives instead. If there are no objectives, get the exit opened.

Are you empty-handed? Depends. There's influences that affect your judgement, such as the amount of objectives remaining, how many people are left, and if you know where the hatch is or not. Use your own discretion.
What should I do when a survivor is downed?
Run towards them. When the killer picks them up, TAIL HIS ASS. Get close to the hook that he's gonna put the victim on and wait for any opening. The time window for rescues is RIDICULOUSLY OPEN because it only takes like 1ish second to get someone off the hook.

Try to distract the killer so that your friend can wiggle free. More time chasing you means more time for your friend. Don't worry about getting caught, you can run just as fast if not faster than the killer if they have a victim in tow.

If the killer is going into basement and you think your friend has a chance, bodyblock the basement door. It might give your friend the split second they need to wiggle free. All basement locations have good escapes so don't worry about taking the hit.

If you notice the killer has a bear trap, get ready 'cause as soon as he puts down that bear trap after hooking your friend, SAVE HIS ASS. The killer won't react fast enough to grab you but he will hit you. You'll still save your friend from a guaranteed death, so it's worth it.
Should I save the victim who's been hooked?
Are you at full health? IF YOU AREN'T THEN DON'T DO IT. Assume that if somone's hooked, that someone is guaranteed to get hit. ALL CASES OF HOOKING APPLY HERE.

Do you have a toolbox? Irrelevant, more dependant on no. of people, objectives, hatch etc. Also what the killer's strategy is when it comes to camping vs. roaming with hooks.

Do you have a flashlight? Maybe. See above.

Do you have a map? Perhaps. See above, except that your item is not useful in ANY situation. You might be a good cleaver-sponge though.

Do you have a medkit? YES. HELL YES.You can shrug off the guaranteed hit.
Hooking situations
Hooked in the basement?

That person's ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Don't bother. It's too risky to try and save them since it's only one way out. I know that I said consider all cases of hooking a guaranteed hit but basement cases are -guaranteed- at least 1+. The chances of walking into a bear trap are high as well.

Hooked outside with the killer gone? Be careful for bear traps.

I unhooked the guy, but he got hit and put on the hook again. What do I do?

Leave his dumbass, there's no reason that he should have taken a hit. You should have been bodyblocking any damage because the victim gets off the hook running, if they choose to run. Trying to save them again when the killer's nearby is a waste of resources.

They're hooked, and they have a bear trap under them. What do?

Well, if you were tailing behind and reacted fast enough you should have rescued them before the killer set up the bear trap. But if it's like this, be VERY careful trying to save your friend, I might neglect this case if I don't have a toolbox to defuse the trap versus risking a missed M1 and getting screwed. IF YOU FALL IN THE TRAP DO NOT LET GO OF M1. You'll save your friend even though you get stuck in the trap. If the killer's nearby, well, you'll get hooked, but if he's not, your friend can get you out of the trap.

They're hooked, and the killer's there. Wtf?

If there's 3 survivors left, one of them has to run a decoy and distract or tank while the other person rescues. This requires fast reflexes to take advantage of the killer's bloodwipe. I usually wait for someone else to run decoy since I only trust my own decisiveness.

They're hooked, beartrapped, and the killers there. What the hell am I supposed to do?

Don't even bother. The level of coordination required is impossible to achieve without some kind of communication between players. It's certainly possible to do with a 4 man team, but it involves one person unhooking onto the trap, which will eventually create the above situation. No waiting for heals though otherwise the killer will reset the trap. That's why I avoid this situation altogether.
Trapdoor locations
Alright, your team really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up , there's 2+ gens on the map and you need an exit. This is pretty much your only hope.

On three maps, the hatch will spawn at a set location. The other, Shelter Wood, the hatch will be in a random spot. These offer pros and cons.

Set locations are easy to bug out to when everythings gone to crap. Then again, the killer will know where the hatch is too. Be careful, as the killer can grab you off the hatch akin to grabbing off a vault, stealing victory at the last second.

On Ironworks of Misery, the hatch will always spawn inside the factory between two pipes.

On Suffocation Pit, the hatch will always spawn on the side of the farmhouse, next to the side door.

On Coal Tower, the hatch will always spawn in proximity to the two floor house. Where exactly, may be random.

In Shelter Wood, the hatch will always spawn randomly. It can appear anywhere, next to the big tree, inside the shack, some random place in the forest.

If you have trouble locating the hatch, listen for an air current that sounds like it's in a cavern. That is a tell that a hatch is nearby.

Also, be aware that sometimes hatch will not spawn. You will know this if you hear the audio cue that a hatch is nearby, but there really isn't a hatch present.

I will add pictures of the three set hatch locations soon.
A note on taking hits
If you don't take any hits, that's great. Proves you're good at surviving. Doesn't prove you're a team player though. Why? I can think of a few scenarios why taking hits helps your friends and lets you be a team player:

- If you block the basement door, it gives your friend that precious second to wiggle out of the killers grip when otherwise they would be hooked

- Saves your friend from being downed when the killer goes for that final blow

- Distracts the killer so that other people can complete objectives

I remember two times when the killer would have downed my friends at the final stretch had I not jumped out in front and taken the bullet. Do it for other people. I'll be sure to do it for you.

Yeah trapdoor being a consistent thing makes it a huge struggle to get that last guy. Usually let the 2nd to last person bleed on the ground so they can't use it and maybe they'll take the bait. Also makes playing killer a boring chore where you just keep circling the map for 10 minutes. Best thing I've had is the whispers perk to know when they're nearby.

try checking that with a firend if you like i found out because early game it was a 1v1 i heard the music and there was no trapdoor i thought it didn't spawn and ran away. As i was being chased 10 minutes later what do you know the trap door is there now and i jumped into it.
russames 10 Jun, 2016 @ 5:28pm
Your trapdoor thing is kinda off. The trapdoors spawns after so long not it spawned or it didn't it simply dosen't spawn untill late game because then it would be op.
