Xbox One / Elite / 360 Controller FIX
By NomNom
This guide will help you with solving the famous “Controller option greyed out” issue, with the game. Not sure why this happens internally within the game, but yeah. Nice work Capcom, please do not hire Teletubbies as your QA testers.

Please like, favourite and share if it worked and so that it convince me to make more guides!

Requirements & Download Link
So, in order for this fix to actually work, you will need to download the required files and install the redistributable files [they are packed within the RAR file, included].

Applying the fix
This is the important part of the guide.

You will need to install DirectX Runtime, which you can download from Microsoft's website[www.microsoft.com].

Step 1: Install vcredist_x64 & x86 if you don't have those installed. They are Microsoft Visual C++ Redist files, that is required by apps, that uses C++ programming language.
Step 2: Extract the files from the zip to DR2 folder.
Step 3: Open x360ce.exe, there will be few prompts/windows popping up displaying that the .dlls are missing and will tell you do you want to create them, go ahead and press OK/YES whichever comes up! When that's done, another form/window will pop up saying that do you want to automatically search controller settings and controller game settings? Press continue/OK/YES. Once found, press continue/OK.
Step 4: Go to force feedback on controller 1 (On second layers of tabs) and make sure that the force feedback is disabled.
Step 5: Go to options, change the hook mode to compatibility then go back to controller 1 and hit save, then close the program.
Step 6: Open the game, you may hear the window is making a sound (Only once) if so then that's the good news, another indication is that if you try to move the mouse, it will be visible then disappear! If you were able to press start on the controller then congrats! But you still have to enable it from the options! (Which should now be switchable from off to on.)

Note
In game vibration does work even when force feedback is off, the vibration/rumble is really weak in this game hence you’ll hardly feel it.
Extra notes
  • Once you done this, you don't have to re-do this again unless you have installed the game again.
  • When putting your controller onto another port, different than the one you previously connected, you need to re-configure the x360ce.exe
  • If the popup that ask you to automatically search online for the settings doesn't appear, try running the x360ce in administrator mode. This solution probably fix the startup crash with x360ce.
  • A forgotten reminder to turn off Steam input from Big Picture mode.

Extra step for DR2: OTR

Hi it did work on off the record.

One thing i had to do for that and this game too later on, was to manually configure the right trigger to invert axis 3, and then tick the 'pass through box' to On under the Advanced options. Otherwise the left trigger would be stuck on aim and you wouldn't be able to press left and right triggers at the same (for aim and shoot).

But with that being done it's works well on both games which is great!
Troubleshooting
If above solution doesn't work or if it works but have some issues with specific buttons try doing these troubleshoots.

  • Try running Administrator mode if x360ce crashes on startup.
  • If searching automatic settings for your controller doesn't help, use one of the presets from the drop down menu below. (Note: If you're using Xbox One controller you can use Xbox 360 presets). You can also go to Setting Database ---> Global Settings to see if other settings work.
  • If you're not using official Xbox controllers, and using the solution above causes issues with triggers, try manually adding the trigger axis. Go to whichever trigger that is causing issues, click on the dropdown and click on Record, then press the trigger.
  • Turn off Force Feedback, the game has rumble enabled but it's very light.

I give up, I've spent hours trying to get this to work. Won't work for me. Followed all the steps exactly. Even tried the speedrun.com resource for this as well. Nothing works. Tried all troubleshooting tips etc, can not get it to work.

I found something that worked for me oddly. For anyone who has VR and uses the Bigscreen app, open the Bigscreen VR remote desktop client, minimize it, and then run DR2 in Big Picture mode with steam input disabled. This allows me to enable controller in the options. I have no idea why this works for me but it does with xbox one controller.
