Which position and which archetype works best for me?
Av ray
It can be very hard for beginners to choose wich position to play on and it even gets harder with the Archetypes. This guide is supposed to help you to find the position and archetype that fits you the best.

Introduction
I didn´t play the old NBA2K series, but I started with 2K16. So I know how hard it can be to pick your class and archetype if you dont know the game yet. But I learned fast from a player who is very familiar with the game and he helped me to understand the game more and more.
But if you dont have someone who is familiar with the game the start can be hard.

So you have to ask yourself: "what class do i want to pick?"

The answer is not always the same because every player has his own special play style.
This guide will guide you through some questions you have to ask to your self.
I hope that this guide can help you.

Greetings Güntherx3

Special thanks to the owner of http://nba2kmyplayer.com which made the stat comparison way easier.
Your kind of playstyle
How is your general behavior and playstyle?

Are you someone...
  • who likes to score out of the motion (1)

  • landing most of his shots standing from high distances (2)

  • having a slow playstyle and a close distance to the enemy players (3)

  • who likes to be around the basket and support the team by getting rebounds and some important dunks (4)

  • who is fast and able to dunk as he runs straight to the basket (5)

  • who loves fast and effective defending (6)

  • leading your team to score with starting fast game moves (7)

all of the archetypes are able to get average in every category, but they excel at a certain one

If you have found the state that described you the most or that you liked the best, look at the number behind it and continue at the number in the register.
1) score out of the motion
The Shot Creator

If that is your playstyle you should create a shot creator. (stats in screenshot)
If you like to score out of the motion (shooting off dribble) a center or a power forward is not a good option for you, because their archetypes are not made for this and if you want to be good in shooting off dribble you need to be fast and have a decent ball handling.
If that is your playstyle you should create a shot creator.

Hold in mind that you are not so good at standing shots.

So you´re more likely to pick a Small Forward, a Point Guard or a Shooting Guard.

Small Forward
The Small forward is a player who is around 2 meters high and is mostly playing between the basket and the 3 point line. He is not as fast as the guards but has a benefit in close shots caused by his height.

Point Guard
The Point Guard is usually the smallest player on the field and the fastest, but he is not able to get high dunk stats, also i can´t rebound that great. His positioning is around the 3 point line, because he is able to get good 3point shoots of the dribble.

Shooting Guard
The Shooting Guard is pretty similar to the Point Guard except he is a little bit taller which allows him to get some easier dunks as the point guard even as a shot creator. He plays mostly in the same area as the point guard.
2) precise standing shots
2.1 The Sharpshooter

If that is your playstyle and you like to be small you should create a Sharpshooter. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots off dribble.

His positioning is around the 3 point line, because he is able to get good 3point shoots.

Shooting Guard
The Shooting Guard is pretty similar to the Point Guard except he is a little bit taller which allows him to get some easier dunks as the point guard even as a shot creator. He plays mostly in the same area as the point guard.

2.2 The Stretch Big

If that is your playstyle and you like to be tall you should create a Stretch Big. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots off dribble.

Center
The Center is usually the tallest and strongest player on the court, but he is very slow and has a low acceleration. He is good at rebounding and his position ist mostly near the basket. As a stretch big his skill in rebounding and strength is not so great but his 3 point shoot and his mid range shots are acurate and have a high level.

Power Forward
The Power forward is a little bit smaller than the center and his play zone is not as near to the basket as the zone of the center. He is better in midrange shots than the center but not as good as the center in rebounding. As a Stretch Big his playzone gets bigger so he can take 3 point shots too.
3) slow / high contact playstyle
Post Scorer

If that is your playstyle you should create a Post Scorer. (stats in screenshot)

Center
The Center is usually the tallest and strongest player on the court, but he is very slow and has a low acceleration. He is good at rebounding and his position ist mostly near the basket. As a Post Scorer his skill in rebounding and strength is not so great but he is allowed to make post-moves, where he stays in body contact with the enemy and makes a turn around or away from them to shot. Basically he mostly moves with his back to the basket.

Power Forward
The Power forward is a little bit smaller than the center and his play zone is not as near to the basket as the zone of the center. He is better in midrange shots than the center but not as good as the center in rebounding. As a Post Scorer his skill in mid-range shots and rebounding is not so great but he is allowed to make post-moves, where he stays in body contact with the enemy and makes a turn around or away from them to shot. Basically he mostly moves with his back to the basket.
4) rebounding and dunks
The Glass Cleaner

If that is your playstyle and you like to be tall you should create a Glass Cleaner. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots in general.

Center
The Center is usually the tallest and strongest player on the court, but he is very slow and has a low acceleration. He is good at rebounding and his position ist mostly near the basket. As a Glass Cleaner his skill in rebounding and strength is very great so you have to focus on the area aorund the basket and don´t throw any shots except layups and dunks.

Power Forward
The Power forward is a little bit smaller than the center and his play zone is not as near to the basket as the zone of the center. He is better in midrange shots than the center but not as good as the center in rebounding. As a Glass Cleaner his playzone is closer to the basket so he can make rebound. His better speed than the center can help at coring some moving dunks.
5) running to dunk
5.1 The Slasher

If that is your playstyle and you like to be small and fast you should create a Slasher. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots in general.

As a Slasher hes not as fast as the 2 guards but through his height his defence is better.

Point Guard
The Point Guard is usually the smallest player on the field and the fastest, but he is not able to rebound that great. His positioning is around the 3 point line from where he can make his way through to the basket as fast as possible.

Shooting Guard
The Shooting Guard is pretty similar to the Point Guard except he is a little bit taller which allows him to get some easier dunks as the point guard even as a shot creator. He plays mostly in the same area as the point guard and is a little bit faster than the point guard, but also weaker.

5.2 Athletic Finisher

If that is your playstyle and you like to be tall but fast you should create a Athletic Finisher. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots and rebounding in general.

Center
The Center is usually the tallest and strongest player on the court, but he is very slow and has a low acceleration. He is good at rebounding and his position ist mostly near the basket. As a Athletic Finisher his skill in rebounding and strength is not so great but his speed and dunks are good.

Power Forward
The Power forward is a little bit smaller than the center and his play zone is not as near to the basket as the zone of the center. He is better in midrange shots than the center but not as good as the center in rebounding. As a Stretch Big his playzone gets bigger, because he has to move more to create room to get as fast as possible to the basket.
6) fast defending
6.1 The Lockdown Defender

If that is your playstyle and you like to be small and fast you should create a Lockdown Defender. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots in general.

So you´re more likely to pick a Small Forward, a Point Guard or a Shooting Guard or even a
Power Forward
.
Small Forward
The Small forward is a player who is around 2 meters high and is mostly playing between the basket and the 3 point line. He is not as fast as the guards but has a benefit in defending caused by his height.

Point Guard
The Point Guard is usually the smallest player on the field and the fastest, but he is not able to get high dunk stats. He is the fastest and the smallest of these 3 which makes him a very fast defender.

Shooting Guard
The Shooting Guard is pretty similar to the Point Guard except he is a little bit taller which allows him to get some easier dunks as the point guard even as a shot creator. He is faster than the small forward which makes him a alround defender.

Power Forward
The Power forward is a little bit smaller than the center and his play zone is not as near to the basket as the zone of the center. He is better in midrange shots than the center but not as good as the center in rebounding. As a Lockdown Defender he is focused on the enemies that are between the basket and the 3 point line and defends every of there shots and tries to get rebounds.

6.2 The Paint Protector

If that is your playstyle and you like to be tall but fast you should create a Athletic Finisher. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are not so good at shots and ball control in general.

Center
The Center is usually the tallest and strongest player on the court, but he is very slow and has a low acceleration. He is good at rebounding and his position ist mostly near the basket. As a Paint Protector his skill in mid range and 3 point shooting is bad but his speed and defence is good.
7) initiating game moves
7.1 The Playmaker

If that is your playstyle and you like to be small you should create a Playmaker. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are average in every other stat than agility and playmaking.

Point Guard
The Point Guard is usually the smallest player on the field and the fastest, but he is not able to get high dunk stats, also i can´t rebound that great. His positioning is around the 3 point line, because he is able to get good 3point shoots. Caused by your good ball control and fast movement you are able to near your enemies without loosing your ball.

Shooting Guard
The Shooting Guard is pretty similar to the Point Guard except he is a little bit taller which allows him to get some easier dunks as the point guard even as a shot creator. He plays mostly in the same area as the point guard. Caused by your good ball control and fast movement you are able to near your enemies without loosing your ball.

7.2 Point Forward

If that is your playstyle and you like to be a little bit taller and more near the basket you should create a Point Forward. (stats in screenshot)

Hold in mind that you are average in every other stat than agility and playmaking.

Small Forward
The Small forward is a player who is around 2 meters high and is mostly playing between the basket and the 3 point line. He is not as fast as the guards but has a benefit in close shots caused by his height. Caused by your good ball control and fast movement you are able to near your enemies without loosing your ball.
If you play as a team
If you are playing in a team with friends you can complement to each other by choosing for example a big rebounder and a small fast person. So you have variation in your team and it will be harder for the enemy to defend it.

Here is an example video of how well a Center (Glass Cleaner) and a Point Guard (shot Creator) match in a 2v2 game.

Thanks for watching, so head on with the guide.
Your height, wingspan, weight and back number
What height should i pick?
Which wingspan should i pick?
How much should my player weight?

I can´t really help you there.
The only thing i can say to you is that you have to focus on the arrows which indicate if the stat is increasing or decreasing. You have to set priorities and choose by yourself.

What backnumber should i pick?

Really?!
