Hollowbody is pretty good, though it definitely has some areas where it struggles a bit.

It does a good job with the atmosphere - always a crucial part of this type of game. The setting and lore are reasonably interesting, and I actually really appreciated the cyberpunky intro. It was also a nice novelty to have most of the game set in a more familiar environment for me - UK streets - instead of the more common North American locations. The puzzles were generally decent and logical enough.

There are two major aspects which make the game fall short of what it could have been, though.

One is the combat. It feels cumbersome and awkward - pretty accurate to the late 90s/early 2000s era of survival horror, but not in a good way. Sometimes I was swinging a weapon and it was just passing through enemies.

The other major issue is tension. There's no build of tension here, no peak followed by release and quiet. It's just a constant hum at the same level through the whole game. By the time I reached the end, it still felt a little like the game had never really got started.

I have some smaller gripes too. It's a bit buggy - interacting with an object often causes you to unequip your weapon, sometimes the targeting reticle just stops appearing, that kind of thing. It also makes use of Silent Hill-style camera angles but usually not for any purpose - not to highlight a particular feature or for mood, but seemingly just because these angles are what you do when you make survival horror.

I'm complaining a lot but I did enjoy the game overall, and it's worth playing if you like this kind of game. It's just that it was so close to being better but didn't quite get there. I'd like to see more from this developer.

Terrible combat system. You will swing you weapon clipping the enemy, but thegame will register it as a hit. Reminds me of Morrowind and not in a good way.

Also full of visual and other bugs. You will click items from one room to another, enemies will spawn but you cant attack them and they will just stand there and so on.

Story is also meh. I ofc didnt finish this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game, but as far as got into it, i really don't care to hear the rest of it.
