I booted up the game after a long time of not playing, and both my old and new characters are shadow people, how do I fix this?

the pirate ghost king or whatever keeps whooping me. im only on normal. there's so much crap flying around the second half of the fight i'm just trying to dodge the whole time and keep getting hit. this fight is really getting to me. at a point it just gets annoyingly unfair and seems like i have to be fast and lucky to beat it. anyone got tips? the first half isnt a problem at all, but the second half he's doing the canonballs, the skulls, the line of skulls, and the blue spirit ball thing all at once whi...
