David Vonderhaar, also known as Vahn, (born September 8, 1972) is an American video game developer and game designer. He is best known for his work on the Call of Duty Black Ops franchise.

Vonderhaar is a former Studio Design Director at Treyarch. Vonderhaar started working on the Call of Duty franchise as a Online Manager for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and was mainly responsible for the development of Multiplayer systems in subsequent games.

Vonderhaar was the Lead Multiplayer Designer for Call of Duty 3 and was promoted to Multiplayer Design Director for Call of Duty: World at War. He then became the Studio Design Director for the Black Ops franchise. For Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Vonderhaar led the development of the competitive Arena mode and also worked on the Campaign.

For Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, he led the development of several systems for the Career and Multiplayer modes. Following the cancelation of the Career mode, Vonderhaar oversaw the development of the Blackout mode in 2018. He later led the development of the Fireteam mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Vonderhaar also worked on Call of Duty: Warzone.

Vonderhaar has a competitive-focused agenda and is inspired by Esports gameplay design. Vonderhaar has spoken on the development of League Play, a competitive mode introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and their goal to make Treyarch games "fun to play, and fun to watch".[10] Starting with Call of Duty: Black Ops, Vonderhaar worked closely with competitive players and Esports professionals to improve the spectating and gameplay experience of Call of Duty


On August 18th, 2023, David Vonderhaar left Treyarch and Activision.
