As the market's invisible hand either from tooling side or from publisher side—or even developers themselves at some times—don't care enough about giving optimizing or polishing their products then customers should be able to make informed choices in regards how much to pay.

Boycotts never work but people should be up for just waiting for a -25% or better sale if a game comes out and on launch day runs like a grandma that never got a hip replacement after unfortunate entanglement with staircase and got negligent healthcare.

The answer clearly shouldn't be "just buy the newest GPU lol" when even those can't guarantee good FPS at 1440p which I don't consider to be asking for too much.
