It's not just your guide, every guide i found mentions the same thing and i was just like, why... Protontricks can do all that without renaming the executables, just select the game's prefix and run the patches. :P I guess they were all made when either protontricks wasn't a thing, or wasn't well known.
Your guide works, it's just a bunch of unnecesary file renaming, it's faster to do that with protontricks. :) It's the same end result. I also applied the bugfix from your guide so that was super helpful!

Initially I made the guide as people were struggling on reddit and there didn't seem to be anything actually helpful for people to easily figure it out that are not familiar with protontricks at least.
As it happens I am half Croatian though I cannot speak the language and lived in the UK all my life
