well, we finally got our adult-only lobbies only for them to be paywalled with the excuse of "beta testing" or something. the vrchat team consistently seems to believe that its community is too stupid to know when it's being swindled.
well, to be fair, half of them are. but i refuse to pay for something that was advertised as coming to the general playerbase months ago. as always development is glacial as an excuse to milk the "beta testing" of vrchat's newest features as long as possible. GFYS vrchat, sincerely GFYS.

I've put 37 hours into this janky, boring, buggy mess. There was never really any challenge involved either. Survival was a cake-walk, finding gas for your car was excessively easy (just one lucky find of a 55 gal. drum filled with gas and you're set for the rest of the game)... I also find the game's style of humor very bland, repetitive, and riding off the back of the success of a game like My Summer Car.
Even with all of its shortcomings, I found myself coming back to The Long Drive every so often to put myself back on the road. I suppose it was the idea of what I would come across next, the journey, the road, which came me coming back.
It's got multiplayer, too.
This game isn't great. But I can tell you that I enjoyed it. It's worth the price tag and receives... fairly inconsistent updates, but it does receive them. If you like driving and exploring, go for it.

The mother of all colony sim games. It took an idea and made it damn-near flawless. Combine that with the endless amount of mods and the fact that it's still receiving expansions and updates... yeah, this game is a real one. Much love, Tynan.

All jokes aside it's a decently "playable" game. It's infuriatingly difficult and unfair, and it feels like the whole thing was dreamed up in a matter of mere hours rather than given a proper development time, but it's playable and coherent. Hopefully in the next decade when Changed Special releases that will improve upon some of the negative aspects of this game. I feel like I'm only giving this a positive review because I know the target audience is going to play it no matter how bad it is.

It's realistic, but that doesn't mean it's fun. I know I'll catch some flak for giving the mother of all zombie games a downvote, but it just isn't fun. It's fun for about the first week of survival, but once you start getting past a month there quickly becomes nothing for you to do besides monotonous XP grinding. It's better with friends, but not much better.

Casual matchmaking was the worst thing to ever happen to this game. I consistently topscore every team I play, but we're always losing. There is always a glaring rank difference between both teams, where one is significantly better than the other and bound to stomp.

Let's get real. It's the mother of all vehicle-based PvP games. It has a well-designed and reliable underlying system which feels just realistic enough to offer a sim-like experience, but arcadey enough to be accessible to non-tryhards. It has, as Todd would say, "a little something for everyone."

I'd like to say that, while we all deeply hate Gaijin, I am impressed by the fact that as of the two years they've almost been respectable. We've gotten much-needed fixes and features to improve the core gameplay, like SPAA and tank destroyers being able to carry ammo boxes for resupplying.

However, this game isn't 'fun'. It's the kind of game that, for us tank/aviation nerds out there, is appealing. Why is it appealing? Well, because it offers us an outlet for all of that cool military autism we love. But it isn't appealing as a videogame. As a game, War Thunder is boring and frustrating. You will be clowned on by 8,000 hour losers in premium tanks and tanks covered in bushes.

This game is also a wallet squeezer. It is specifically designed to be as frustrating as possible to encourage you to spend money on premium time and premium tanks. Of course most people want to play at the higher tiers of tanks with cool modern tech. Will most people be able to? Absolutely not--not unless you grind for hundreds of hours to get there... OR alternatively buy a premium vehicle.

Overall, this game isn't worth getting into unless you absolutely NEED an outlet for some kind of aviation/military autism that you can't get ANYWHERE else.

Everyone needs to flood back into this game and make it active again. This game was one of the greatest experiences of my childhood.
