The basic idea is nice enough but unfortunately all of the individual components (roguelike, idler, tower defense) are very shallow and offer only limited synergies with each other. Except for the random hero selection, the tower defense has very little in terms of strategy or different builds and eventually you'll have picked all of the talents anyway. Idler progression is very short and uninteresting, too. You'll soon have unlocked all of the heroes, their personal ranks only add the odd new talent for TD here and there and most remaining upgrades come in the form of +X% and so don't open new gameplays or builds either.

It's an okay casual manager game but lacks any depth whatsoever. The core gameplay loop of upgrade/build - qualify/tune - race/pit gets repetitive after a season or two and doesn't really offer any level of strategy or randomisation to keep it interesting for longer.

Early Access Review
It's a shame I still can not recommend KSP2 in its current state. The performance even on smaller builds is still below what you'd expect and too many of the promised features are missing a year after release.

Maybe let it cook for another year and we finally get a finished product.

Some quality of life improvements over Curious Expedition 1 but inferior in every other aspect.

Especially the graphics rub me the wrong way. The first part had a crude but very cute 8 bit DOS style but Curious Expedition 2 manage to look cheaper at a higher res.

Much more beginner friendly than CK2 and includes plenty of features that previously required DLC. Paradox will probably continue to build on this for the years to come and for the 100 of hours of fun I'll gladly invest in a few addons as they come out.

Entertaining for a few hours but gameplay effectively boils down to 'Where is Waldo' style item finding and some very simple puzzles.
Thumbs down because the music/sound effects are annoying as f****, there are plenty of clipping and display issues that make you become stuck. Customisation options for your shop are also very limited and feel half baked, e.g. spent $1.000 on fancy walls but no way to upgrade the rusty doors.

Very relaxing city builder but with limited playtime/techs. The economy loop is similar to Settlers 2, you have to grow with a certain pace and just pumping out 10 buildings at a time will quickly leave you stuck.

The tutorial quite basic and doesn't anwer most of the 'but what if?' questions, better check Arumba's Youtube tutorial to get into the game.
Once you get it however, nights and days will pass, your life as you know it will be over and you won't get sleep for another day because that stuttering half brother of yours, that you sent to greece to be forgotten, returns as a veteran varangian guard with 29 freaking martial score to press his claim. You'll quickly become attached to your dynasty and burn villages and imprison children for the good of the realm.

found the gameplay very repetetive and not very exciting, even in multiplayer with 3 friends it just felt like a grind.
Play Alien Swarm instead, it's free and a lot more fun.
