Trolleybus Volvo B88T

Proudly presenting the Volvo Den Oudsten Trolleybus B88.

This pack contains multiple liveries of the B88 in Arnhem (The Netherlands).
Most liveries have the option to change the linecolor istead of the bus color, only two can change the whole trolleybus color. I choose to add the bus paramaters instead of the tram parameters, because I hate it when the blinkers didn't blink and the wheels didn't turn in road curves. Be aware that those trolleybuses will come out of car depots because of this.

To replace the DAF / Den Oudsten trolleybuses 121-130 from 1974, the GVA ordered ten trolleybuses on a Volvo chassis with an electrical installation from Kiepe from Den Oudsten in 1989. After B79 trolley 157 was disposed of in May 1989 due to fire damage, the order was expanded with an eleventh trolley. The Garbe Lahmeyer electric motor of the 157 was still usable and was placed in one of the Volvos. In June and July 1990 the Volvo trolleys with fleet numbers 172-182 entered service. They were the last trolleybuses with a high floor.

Since the mid-1950s, the GVA has been buying diesel and trolley buses of the same make and type so that less spare parts need be available. As a result, 45 Volvo / Den Oudsten diesel buses, 7 of which were articulated, came into service in the years 1989 to 1992. The F&G electric motors of 10 of the 11 trolleys caused problems from the start. Acceleration was poor and there were also problems with internal resistance in adverse weather conditions. Even after repair, problems remained and at the end of 1995 these electric motors were replaced by Skoda models. These worked well.

Volvo trolleys were also transferred from the GVA to the GVM in May 1993, to Oostnet in January 1997 and to Connexxion in May 1999. In June 1997 they were also renumbered by placing a 0 in front of the existing fleet number. In October 2007 the 0172-0182 were renumbered again in connection with the new Infoxx system, the 0 was replaced by a 5.

After delivery of nine articulated Hess trolleys in the last quarter of 2009, nine of the eleven Volvo trolleys were taken out of service. Five units were exported to the Chernivtsi trolley company in Ukraine in 2012 and 2013. Only the 5177 and 5180 remained - as the last non-articulated trolleys - for a while, mainly on the quiet line 2.

After nearly 22½ years of service and driving around 1.1 million kilometers, both trolleys were taken out of service at the end of November 2012 and went to SVA on March 12, 2013. On June 21, 2018, the trolleys became the property of the STA. The 5180 was given museum bus status, while the 5177 became a parts supplier.
