Itch.io version is better!

i recently just beat this game 100% in under a day, i was waiting until i fully completed it to give a proper review

if you want a simple cheap and fun experience i recommend buying this game, but if you're looking for more i recommend waiting until this game gets more updates. I hate to say it but i agree with the crowd, the itch.io version is definitely better than the steam release.

Pros:
- file dragging makes it alot easier to check data
- arcade mode is really fun when you try and blaze through, adding time as a points factor was a really good choice

Cons:
- Custom mode. The idea of custom mode is really good. creating your own neighbours sounds awesome, but we're limited to pre-existing options. That is super lame, and restricts creativity. I get that maybe having users create their own assets might be hard to work in, but color changing and dragging should be atleast an option.
- Nerfed difficulty. I do think nightmare mode was really difficult at times from gameplay videos on the itch build that i've seen, but it really does feel like the difficulty was gutted across the board. Normal mode isn't even immune either, when going for perfect ranks i've barely felt like there were that many differences.
- No nightmare campaign. I feel like this should've been a great mode to have. Especially if you're gonna nerf the difficulty of nightmare mode in general.
- Weird changes. The two that i can think of from the top of my mind are the changes to revealing a doppel and the clown. revealing a doppel is now no longer if you question them, it's now when you reject (not kill) them from the building. that's fine i guess, and you can let the doppel in to kill you which is cool, but the run doesn't end? I feel as if the achievement should've been if you let a doppelganger that revealed themself to you in, not just seeing them get mad. The clown also got butchered too. There's no real sense of danger when going against him. You can just skip his game, and not even dying is scary, you just go to the next day.
- Removed content. the biggest issue in my opinion. lots of content were removed from what i can see. The tape explaining nightmare mode, the alien visuals, nightmare chester, the conspiracy ending cutscene, and vips in nightmare mode are a few things that were removed. but by far the worst removed feature was the details list. a key integral part of a game like this is having the details to your neighbours, why would you then remove it? this doesn't add much of anything. Even worse, hatless people are still a thing. Calling a neighbour now no longer tells you if they left their hat home or not for some reason, and it makes these types of neighbours unnessecairly and unfairly tricky to check off.

Granted, some of my cons may be due to completing this game really quickly, if some of these things are incorrect, i apologize.


Overall, wait for this game to get patches and more content if you've never played the original itch.io version or you weren't a fan of the itch.io version. I do hope that this game gets more though, i do really like aspects such as the mystery behind the D.D.D and the art style of the neighbours in both modes. I hope Nachosama doesn't take offense to the criticism, and instead builds a better game off of what he has and what he's gotten.
