Worse than Sands of Time in every conceivable way.

- Dying takes you through like 15 seconds of waiting. I don't mind dying a lot in a game but oh my god that's just way too long. "Skill issue just don't die" you will die on your first time in a Prince of Persia game because of the trickier platforming. So it kinda sucks.
- They doubled down, tripled down even, on the combat, which was merely passable, and decided that you should be fighting all the time, against terribly annoying enemies that are pumped with HP. The first game had annoying enemies but at least it's a small part of the run time. Here, it's everywhere.
- I don't like the dual weapon system. I don't think it's bad but I don't feel like being charitable - it really adds nothing to the game. You can throw weapons and pick a new one up, I guess.
- BROWN AND BLOOM BABY!! This game looks noticeably worse than Sands of Time.

Play it I guess if you want to experience the whole saga?

stories 1 is a very infuriating game, and stories 2 fixes just about every issue i had - better battles with actual patterns, a better gene system, better inventory management, and the list goes on.

just a really tight RPG experience all around. very rewarding to get invested in the diverse systems, and the new additions (actual weapon mechanics and partners, amongst others) are very welcome. a strong recommendation from me.

playing this 20 years later and the game still holds up fine. the only real issues with this version are the lack of modern resolutions and controller support.

really puzzling that they decided to remake this game instead of just giving it those few addons it deserves to be "better", and having the remake take longer to come out than the original trilogy.

you can get this game on sale for like a dollar or two. well-worth your time even at full price.

incredibly fun game. pure kinetic gameplay. dope plane fights & banger tunes. a bit of a struggle at first if you are unfamliar with the genre but nothing you cannot get over easily.

i am also in the minority that likes the story, even if it suffers because of dev hell and poor localization. just a fun game all around.

The streets of rage 4 guys nailed it again. Character control is outstanding, moves are great, soundtrack is straight fire, presentation is outstanding. just all around incredible

i love the vibe. i love the world. i love the characters. i love how it gets pre-World monster hunter charm.

but oh my god the combat and raising are a headache. rock paper scissor where the game screams at you that monsters have patterns but also not really. acquiring eggs and raising monsters to feed genes to other monsters except gene slots, gene types and gene locations are random. i engaged with the game's systems, i truly did but wow. everything is messy.

i powered through because the game gives you a rathalos with 9 open gene slots so i could transform him into a small nuke but other than that this game was nothing short of frustrating.

i am still leaving it as positive because i don't have it in me to leave it as a negative but oh my god this game was frustrating.

if you (somehow) have a stardock account, game is still very playable. weird early MOBA that wasn't a "game as a service". that's really all that can be said - if you don't like MOBAs, don't play this!

a better game than 1. classes are more diverse and fun, biomes are more well-thought out, bosses are flat out more interesting

however "farm gold, die, rinse and repeat" is still the loop and after a bit it began to irk me personally. still a good game overall, just not one i see myself revisiting overall too much

it's still fine all those years later but i find it frustrating more than anything else. dying is a core part of roguelikes to spend meta progression acquisition, but usually coupled with upgrades you get in the run. rogue legacy doesn't feature any of the latter, so it's you as you start the run and you don't really get anything else. which on its fine is whatever but the second half of the game is not particularly fun to grind your teeth against so it becomes a chore really quick. leaving it as a positive because i do think there's something to like but i did at the end just find it a bit tedious to start a new run over and over to become ever so slightly more powerful each time.
