I love sitting

A friend of mine worked for several years at 112 [emergency services]. It destroys a person. And the problem isn’t the tragedies themselves, but the constant, fluid switching between trivial and tragic situations. One moment, someone calls to report a crash on the highway — two people already without a pulse, and the rest need help. And five minutes later, there’s a call about a homeless man peeing in a doorway.

Of course, there were also some funny moments, like the guy who called to say someone had stolen his drugs. Or the elderly lady who saw three Black men sitting on a bench in the park.

“And what are they doing on that bench?”

“Well, they’re sitting. What else would they be doing? Please come.”
