Intro - Deeper Into The Steam Guides

This is a semi-sequel to "Mega-Bloody Red Rose Lollipop - The Makings Of A Steam Guide".

I also want to find more stuff that's not mention on Jimo's "Creating And Editing Steam Guides" and the other useful Steam guides (Especially mine).

I'll add more when I discover more information and life hacks.

Note: Please help me correct any misinformation, misspellings and incorrect information/omitted information. Thanks in advance.

Don't forget to:

Non-Glitchy Bothersomes
Non-Glitchy Bothersomes -
Steam Access Denied?

When a guide gets banned, but ya know that you did nothing wrong (like your trading rep is in good standing). But messages like "Access Denied" keeps popping up.
Just wait for the ban to resolved itself, like expiring, contact support or the forum modders. Though even if you're just confuse contact them.

Word Limits

A guide's description/summary, title and chapter/section all have character limits.
Life Hacks

Life Hacks - More Formatting And Spelling

To undo mistakes, use "Ctrl-Z."

Built-In Line Break

To do a built-in line break, here's a few ways to get them:

  • Compart[www.compart.com]
  • Removing "floatLeft"

Doing these can enable ya to use just as many line breaks for correct formatting.

F12

The screenshot upload limit for the Steam Cloud is approximately 26,000+ screenshots, despite that ya know that your Steam game whatsit-bites and computer have tons of elbow room. It's best to take advantage of the F12/ keys, art programs and manually save.
Life Hacks - Mobile

Gifs

Some phones, like Moto G Stylus 5G, has a gif making feature. To do this, you just need to bring out the stylus, click on the gif icon.
Miscellaneous

Kawaii Star: It's Bayesian, baby.

"Im Gonna Be A Star"

For your guide to get a star, it needs to 25 votes for it to unlock. This will also get the ratio of like/dislikes. Ya won't get that 5 Star without the considerable likes at first. Beware of the downvotes and dislikes, because it will decease your ratings. But it's complicated, since this system is based on the Bayesian system.

Note: If I badly explained things, remember that the star system is based on the Bayesian system. You're better off making a joke/meme guide with the "Not Affilated to any game/software" guide creator and slapping this guide on your profile to rake in the Steam Points and Stars quickly or worse, play a gacha game, those will give ya a different set of 5 Stars.

Tag Whoring

Your guide can be removed without warning from the mods of a particular game/software/Steam itself, if you abuse the category tags and tic everything off. It doesn't matter, if the guide in question is useful. Some of the mods are trying to get rid of the poorly written joke/spam guides and your serious guide has a high chance of getting caught in the crossfire. If you're whoring, like the stereotypical E-Girl that does this sort of thing.

Note: It's better to contact a mod of said game/software/Steam to see if you can get your guide unban. But the mod's tools are wonky, so, this may not work, even if you convinced them.
Co-Op Shingdings And Etiquette
This chapter covers how to team work with contributators and that are also sharing one single guide with.

Note: Some of this is not an etiquette "knight in shining armor rescuing a princess", but more of "unspoken rules of a marsh pit" etiquette.
Troubleshooting
Sometimes, if there's a nutty bug going on, when the worst case scenario happens.* Just sit tight and wait for Steam to either fix itself up or the next update.

Check to see if Steam needs to be cleaned, like getting rid of cache and cookies.

Failure Code: 15

When an error, named Failure Code: 15 pops up randomly, sometimes, it's possibly a glitch on their end. Just either, contact Steam support, wait for the guide to fix itself up, which may or may not take several hours. This error is suppose to be a sort of automated check to make sure that no illicit or inappropriate content." Before posting.

Honorable mention, sometimes starting a new guide will fix the error, or . It's because, at times, even "beginning anew" doesn't work.

* What I regard as "worst case scenario is" when tech support can't help.

Cannot Create Guide

When it turns out that ya cannot create a guide, this glitch is from the fact that the guide's avatar/icon supports .png. It acts funky, if the image for the guide is .jpg. - At times, .jpg works, other times it won't.

Content Check Limbo

This glitch sometimes happens when a guide is "too big", when you're editing/tweaking your guide to break the sound barrier or the external host itself/glitches on Steam end, when it's not their fault. It's when a guide is suspended for auto checking, even if your guide has no links. Ya either contact Steam support, the Steam mods, especially for that game, or wait it out.

Note: Steam support and/or the Steam mods will appreciate if ya do the SOS early, like when the guide takes beyond ten minutes/a day. So, they can "remove" the auto-check and fix the issue, if they can. So, ya can get back to editing.

"Choose Files"?

If the "Choose Files" button doesn't work, when you try to pick a picture to upload. Just turn off things running in the background, like programs, files, and the internet windows or just turn off a few of 'em. Another method is to refresh the guide page or turn off and restart Steam. Those usually fix the problem.
Troubleshooting (Cont.)
"File Upload Failed: 29"

This error pops up when Steam thinks that you are trying to upload the same file again, despite that its not showing up. There's a few methods to fix this, ya either resize and/or rename the picture file(s). If that doesn't work just resize your files. The other method is to upload the picture to the Steam Guide's Image section, but ya have to delete the glitching picture first. (Note: the new picture might show up as a black image, despite that its there).
Error Code List

These are a list of Steam guide glitches, ranging from the annoying "wait it out" to "call tech support, it's not working. ASAP."

Error Code
What It Says/Does
2
??
15
Hiccups in the auto-checker
Unable To Change Visibility
Its when one can't change a guide's visibility, the error is also a type of error 15. But milder.
Access Denied
Ya won't be able to edit the summary/change the guide's icon, etc.
My Tool Box
Open Source Software
Open source software is mainly made for the "little people", especially for starving artists, and these tools can be customizable. - There's nothing a little pluggin won't fix.
If ya really want to get involve just donate to them or join and concoct a new cool branch-thingy to add to the software.

Be aware that despite that ya saw that you can buy these open source art software on Steam, just think of those prices for the software as a way to tip/support the company that made the open source software. But one can download them for free in the official site. The only noticeable differences that I see is that the Steam versions have auto updates and no ads.

Also, if the worse case scenario were to happen, like the company becomes evil and insane, company were to go under, government crackdown on digital art tools or alien invasions. One can chop off the open source art software from the "host", run off with it, make the software their own and continue as though nothing has happen.

95% of my digital art tools are open source software.

Off Topic

I case you're wondering how my broke butt got some of these pricey art software, they, like Photoshop and Corel Painter, came in with my first drawing tablet, Wacom's Bambo Create, for free.
Dive Into My Toolbox
Note: I haven't dump traditional art, they're part of my toolbox as well. But we're talking about digital tech here.

Second Note: Be aware that some of these software mentioned here and in the upcoming chapters are "extinct", per se, they're replace by current newer versions of themselves or can't be bought/downloaded.

There's various open source software that one can use to make Steam guides.

The main ones that I use are:

https://test-steamproxy.haloskins.io/steamstore/app/458750/FireAlpaca_SE/

https://test-steamproxy.haloskins.io/steamstore/app/2485190/MediBang_Paint_for_Steam/

Official MediBang Paint site[medibangpaint.com] - They have a mobile app version which is perfect for making guides on the go.

Medibang Paint (Google Play)[play.google.com]

Medibang Paint (Apple Store)[apps.apple.com]

https://test-steamproxy.haloskins.io/steamstore/app/365670/Blender/ - Note Concerning Blender: Yes it can be use to draw 2D art, but I haven't learned out to do that. I use it more of a video making program. Also, there's no method to donate to Blender using Steam gift cards (yet).

This is tiny proof that Blender can be used like Fire Alpaca.

Corel Painter Essentials 4
- CPE4 is mainly design as a home art studio to draw, edit photos and other artsy endevours. It's a one time payment and ya own it. Though Corel wants ya to get the latest version and subscribe to their subscription model.

AI Art Generators

I will only occasionally use them, but mainly for guides that involves anything ai. Note: Most of these use Stable Diffusion as a kinda base. Since it's designed to be open source and is "flexible". Plus, there's an option if ya want to make it use NSFW. Consider this as a caution.

Dezgo

Dezgo[dezgo.com] - An ai art generator site that is free and offers a lot, like Image-To-Image and Text-To-Video*, and one doesn't need to make an account for this. It can work on mobile for on the go purposes. I like it due to it's img2img feature.

Prodia

Prodia[app.prodia.com] - It's just a basic text-to-image ai art generator site, I see it as an in between of Craiyon and Dezgo. Prodia only does text-to-image, but it offers more things, like extra models (That Dezgo don't have). It can work on mobile for "on the go" purposes.

ArtRoom

Art Room[artroom.ai] - Art Room is a version of Stable Diffusion XL. Besides the ai gear, like img2img, selecting models and negative words. Artroom has a lite editor to put masks, upscale and clean up the piece. Ya need to wait for the shards to regenerate, if ya want to do more generations.

It does need an account and/or an email for all the fun stuff, including downloading the bot. - Bonus, one can download ArtRoom for their own personal use.

Pricing model[artroom.ai] - Their bundles ranges between "Free" and all the way up to "Premium." The shards regenerate, depending on the price bundle, how much ya generate and .

Mobile Apps

Official Medibang Paint Site[medibangpaint.com] - Since MediBang is Fire Alpaca's "twin", it is perfect for on the go Steam guide activities. The subscription is optional, though they offer cool brushes and a few other things. Though you need an account. Note: They have an art site, Art Street, where ya can post your stuff, especially if it's straight from ya phone.

Medibang Paint (Apple Store Link)[apps.apple.com]

Medibang Paint (Google Play Store Link)[play.google.com]
Dive Into My Tool Box - "Press "F" For Respect"
These are software that I use to used, they either got TOO pricey for me to continue using (Began to use a subscription), doesn't work, but one needs to buy the latest but pricey version or I phased it out, due to personal reasons.
The cheat sheet story of how I was able to obtain these, despite it being pricey even back then, was do to buying a reasonably price Bamboo Create. This software (and a few others) came free with the drawing tablet. So, if you wanna take a stab at them or are richer than me, go ahead and spend.

Photoshop Elements 9
- This handy tool is good for drawings, memes and photo-editing. But it is currently being phased out for Fire Alpaca. It's not connected to the Adobe's current Creative Cloud subscription, but it can be a single purchase or one can upgrade it to a better version.

Note: Adobe is forcing people to get the pricer version, subscribe to their cloud and ditch the old software. Since, they got in trouble with Dolby a while back and wants artists to pay to bail them out/ hire an army of lawyers and they didn't renew their subscription to this swatches company. (I still don't know, if they're still not out of the Dolby woods yet.). The software still works up to this day.

Lawsuit Is Probably Still Going On[dockets.justia.com]

Clip Studio Paint

Site Link[www.clipstudio.net] - Stupidly keep forgetting the password for my copy.

AI Art Generators

Stable Diffusion
- It's an open source ai art generator*, works for low end computers and is very accessible to anyone. One can even download it locally for their own personal use. Some versions, like the site ones, need an account whereas others don't need it.

Note: I haven't figure out how to fix the glitches from the fresh install, like "upgrade pip" and "Can't find torch." So, this is an honorable mention that may get move to my tool box in the future, when I do figure out how to get it to work. (Note: I don't want to post any Github, Python and whatsit links, so, instead, I will post tutorials on how to do it properly). Don't let my "road bump" get in the way, if ya need it as part of your art workflow go ahead. I do encouraged the handicap, especially those that are artists, to download or find a comfortable SD site to use (Like the ones that I listed). So, they can unleash their vision/ get back on the saddle.

Second Note: If you're worried about the ethical aspects, just sit tight and wait for other ai art generator rivals to get a move on, be made or you figure out how to program LORAs on ONLY your stuff just for your private needs and plop it into SD.

SD Install Tutorial (Windows)[stable-diffusion-art.com]

SD Install Tutorial (Mac)[stable-diffusion-art.com]

Craiyon

- Craiyon is based off of DALL-E. It's very "primitive", if ya compare it to the others that I mentioned earlier. But it has memes on it's side. Craiyon is prompt based, it doesn't do fancy stuff, like img2img or text2vid. Account making and donations are optional.

Link[www.craiyon.com]

Dream Up

- Dream Up is DeviantArt's Stable Diffusion-ish AI art generator, it's very simplistic and "primitive", unlike the other examples (it has competition with Craiyon). It's a text2text. Ya need to unlock Core, if ya want more features and shards to do more generations.

Adobe

In case, vid doesn't play Vid Link

Firefly[www.adobe.com]

This is one of the "ethical" ai art generators and is currently being integrated into some of their art software, like Photoshop.

Note: Will never use, because Adobe is pricey.
